Official names and upgrades for the 3 core Necropolis creatures revealed:
The Skeleton
Skeleton are nothing more than dead, decaying bodies animated by the will of a Necromancer. Combining blind loyalty, indifference to hunger and thirst, and a lack of any sense of fear or doubt, the Skeleton is considered to be an excellent servant.
The Bone Guard is the upgraded Skeleton.
The Ghoul
Ghouls are ravenous spirits of the dead, bound by magic in lifeless corpses. Ghouls are tormented beings, filled with hatred for the living.
Powerful Necromancers can control them, but otherwise they are wild and destructive. Transformation into a ghoul is used as the ultimate punishment in Heresh, and is a means of permanently removing a soul from the cycle of death and transformation.
Ghouls feed on corpses and often carry diseases in their blood and saliva.
The Grave Ghoul is the upgraded Ghoul.
The Ghost
Upon their death, the children of the Dragon Gods rise as spirits to the moon, to pass into eternity under the guiding hand of Asha. However, traumatic events can cause the creation of a Ghost, a spirit bound to the material world by a powerful, negative emotion.
By performing a specific ritual, Necromancers can convert Ghosts into loyal servants, under their absolute control.
The Spectre is the upgraded Ghost.

Thanks for posting the pics. I like the artwork.
This part of the description of the Ghoul, makes it sound like they will poison-you with a bite and/or plague-you as a result of being struck.
That's not yuck, that's what I might look like after fighting my first Ghoul.
Make a great day.

I'm actually surprised they didn't call it Banshee, when we first saw it in the battle pictures, I was sure they'd drop the Ghost/Spectre thing because of the female looks.

... is damn stupid name for a ranged creature.
Otherwise the art looks good. Not inspiring, but decent at least. But it's REALLY high time they give us something REALLY new - for the past two months we've been seeing the same screenshots and artworks they showed us when the game was announced... but from different angles.

I'm pretty sure all creature names in the game are open to revision (and hopefully a few will be revised if we have any clout ). We were also fighting to bring some exclusive information to AoH, but annoyingly enough I can't guarantee that it'll be released before mid-November.

And the new Inferno Tormentor!
How many different kinds of awesome is it?
MANY!
Reminds me of several of my favorite monsters, including DnD's Boneclaw and Secret of Mana's Zombies and Ghasts.
With their extending talons and grasping rib-cages.
Also, it looks horrific and otherworldly, truly putting the Demonic in the Inferno faction.
Now of course, is it a core? or is it an elite?
It looks like it's a light weight offensive creature, thinking 1x1 square.
I can imagine it having an ability triggering off taking damage.

Because tormentor/excruciator have no eyes (i can't spot them) I assume they are immune to blind.

Looks very impressive, loving this serious Inferno look!
This thread needs the pictures too.
I'd assume it's an Elite unit. I guess the Nightmares are not serious enough to be in this lineup.

Epic pictures. Also Pitlords are out too.
I think pitlord is elite, and tormentor is core.
Tormentor is epicly cool, but core units are badass too, in the new game. Also elite we have the juggernaut with a similar function (badass melee, stands on his feet). And for champion, i hope they keep the devil!

Due to the way they worded the Pit Lord's description, it's highly likely that they are the Champions.
My guess is Devils will become Heroes/Story Characters/Bosses.

Despite a complete lack of Dragons, Inferno has been my favorite faction since HV.
In HIII they were second only to Dungeon and Fortress for me.
Always loved them, and looks like I always will.
