If you're a woman, the telvanni representative just gives you her vote. I thought the reverse was true for redoran, if you played a male.

Yes
Edit:
Oups I misread, I meant no, I've completed the main quest the intended way, I just didn't remember I'd to kill him.

??? I'm pretty sure you have to kill Gothren regardless. (Dratha I waited for my Voice of the Emperor to recharge and buffed with lots of Personality boosting spells before talking to her. And still needed to Persuade her a little...)

There are 3 ways to complete the main quest.
One is the normal way, where you've to be named Hortator and Nerevarine. Here you've to kill the bad guys, such as Gothren, of the different houses, at least in most cases, if I'm not mistaken, but I'm not entirely certain, it's a bit hazy.
Then there's the back road, where you can slay Vivec, take the Wraithguard to the robo-dwarf on that island where you get the cure for the ugliness disease, and if you've more than 20 reputation points, he'll activate it.
Finally, there's the option, that if you're really well known, 50 rep. points or more, you can simply skip the parts where you've to be named hortator and nerevarine, and vivec wants to see you straight away.

I don't remember slaying Gothren. It's totally possible I felled him in one blow or that he was totally not memorable in some other way. Dratha was easy, because I played a women. The redoran dude I had to kill. Around the time I did these quests I am invariably ridiculously high level and have the daedric daikatana.

I think it's possible that one does not have to take down the Hlaalu guy at the Dren Plentation though? Something about it being possible to.. blackmail him?
About Gothren, after searching a bit more, I don't think it's avoidable, perhaps you simply had enough reputation points that you were allowed to visit Vivec without realizing you hadn't completed the quest properly? I know it's a long shot...
Gothren, I think, is the guy who always has 2 Dremora Lords standing beside him. I think he might be easily defeated, if you just cast some 100% fire resist and let the Area of Effect of the Dremora Lords Fireballs take down Gothren.

I definitely remember being hortator for all houses. I think it's more likely I stunlocked him with excessive damage and killed the dremoras really easily afterwards. You do so much killing in morrowind, it's entirely possible I don't remember that explicit case.

Indeed. And I usually prefer the pacifist road.
I also remember once I wanted minions to do all my killings, so I didn't have to. I created 8 different summon scamp spells, so I could have 8 scamps at once.
Then I found out you couldn't summon Ogrim's, that was a disappointment. I would much rather be able to summon a huge brute like an Ogrim, than a Golden Saint.

I know I have trouble telling some of the Dunmer nobles apart--especially in Scar. There seem to be SO MANY Dunmer noblewomen (noblewomer?) in red shirts, and most of them seem to be quest important somehow.
Edit:
Explanation for the player character in ESO. The player character is a white blood cell!
Edit again:
Encountered Gaenor (haven't been attacked by him yet) and had someone try to attack me during my performance at the play. I have to say that was a very fun quest.
Edit again:
Killed Gaenor. Except for he seems to have a lot of HP and that nasty Reflect effect, he seemed pretty straightforward. (Reminds me of Molag Bal in ESO actually; yes getting hit by him hurts but he has no way to heal.)

How does the expansion compare to the vanilla game? I've never tried the expansion(s) (apart from that undead infested island which is free to download).

I wondered afterward if I should have been annoyed with the man backstage for not warning me...then I remembered I had Wraithguard strapped to my arm so maybe he didn't think I needed it. XD

It's different. I admit it feels strange only having to go across the city instead of across Vvardenfell for every quest. It's nice that I don't have to beat off Cliffracers every five steps, and a bit frustrating that there doesn't seem to be any other place TO go except the very, very extensive sewers. (Seriously, they could move the entire population of Vivec down there if they cleaned out the monsters first. There is more sewer than there is city!)

I didn't like the eternal cliff racers fight either, I think it had to do with not all the characters I played were always particularly keen on random fights, especially the stealthy thief like characters. Something odd about most characters not being able to outrun them, yet they only pose a threat towards me (and town guards, but only because town guards attacks them).
On the size of the city Vivec, when I looked at the adventure map it always looked huge, but I never thought it was particularly large when I actually ran around there.. as long as I didn't have those "go from canton Y to canton X, return to canton Y" quests.

I just met my ex-wife and gave her the Mazed Band. I hope this doesn't mean we're re-engaged.
Edit:
Got through the Fabricant attack, investigating the End of Times cult...and laughing through the whole thing. "The passing of the Tribunal is a prelude to the end of the Era!" "The Gates of Oblivion will soon open!" How did you know? XD
Edit:
I killed my ex-wife. I was a little surprised I didn't even get to talk to Sotha Sil; I thought I was going to have to fight him too. But no matter! On to Bloodmoon.
Edit again:
You know that headgear Almalexia wears at the end? It reminds me of the Dragon Priest masks.

Hey guys, any advice for me? Coming back to Skyrim after a huuuge break, could use your opinions re the char I'm planning.
I'm going for a conjuration-expert, sneaking(backstab path +1 point in sneaking) High Elf, with Illusion backup(Invisibility+ Quiet Casting) Also gonna spend 2 perks in Smithing, to be able to enchant magic items. Damage will be done mainly via Archery, right side maxed. Also planning some light armor and 5 points in armsman to have a sort of backup. Oh and if I can spare the perks, then novice restoration, respite + the +50% healing
Battle plan's like this: Summon 2 Dremora Lords, go invisible, pick off stragglers by bow. OR go invisible, backstab, repeat
Is this build viable in Master difficulty? How soon am I gonna be maxing it?

Had a similar character, vampire conjurer with bound weaponry. Was fun, felt really sneaky landing those sneak crits with bound bow on enemies busy with my minions.
Worked fine, my game was/is heavily modded though. Can't imagine having any problems on vanilla..
For extra ownage you could spec into alchemy and use paralyzing poisoned arrows.. easy pickings for your minions. Could skip restoration that way and use healing potions instead too.

Poisons rule man, can't go wrong with them.
All builds are viable on master, the game's way easy.
Heck, I made a dual axe sneak character my first time on the hardest difficulty and had no problems ^^
