Yeah, I noticed that too. Isn't it ironic? They butchered the towns in order to make the game go faster but instead its slower than ever!
They mentioned that they have improved performance issues for the final release so hopefully the town window will load quicker, as with general game loading....the way the various map items load takes ages: the town, the trees, and eventually the hero and his movement path....forever! Maybe we need to get i7 2600K 3.4Ghz and nVidia 580 GTX for it to load quick! Phew....

Just a short story..
Went on vacation to Russia..
And saw my GoodOld Friend there!
Told him about new Heroes6 , he was very excited about it
as we used to play together a lot, and had loads of laugh and fun!
From HoMM3-4-5! we r kind of HoMM rivals!
Anyways to make a long story short..
When he found out what has been done to TownScreens
he was shocked!!! and he said that he will Never buy this game (using a strong cursing words on Russian)!
And even he doubted that anyone in Russia will ever buy this Game except the DieHard Fans!!!
Saaaad! why Ubi??? Whyyyyyyyyy?

Hey Darkie, yes, why Ubi why! But I don't think we should not play the game just for this reason....as you said, we love heroes! If they changed the game to real-time (no more turn-based) then I would think twice about playing it.

The town windows and the bad UI took away my appreciation of the game. I'm not buying the vanilla, and not playing it either. I like heroes, but I'm not buying a game that I don't like. I didn't buy H5 until after TotE came out. I don't want that to be the case with H6...

Town windows or not, the essence of Heroes is still there....I mean you can sit back, take a sip of coffee, light up a smoke, and ponder what to do next in your game....love it! Chilled! Completely opposite to Call of Duty where you get a heart attack every 30 min...
Heroes 5 was cool, the campaign, obviously ToE perfected some stuff and was better, but we love Heroes for it's turn-based, chilled strategies...

This.
Personally I don't think that town screens are something worth remembering in H6, but they do the job - I can pop in, build a structure, hire creatures and go out, where all the fun begins.
So all in all, I would love better town screens, but they are not even close to "game ruining" part of the game. It's still Heroes after all!

Where ? As someone else said, it looks more like King's Bounty than Heroes 5. If I wanted to play KB, I'd be playing KB.

To me they are ruining the game. In H3 when I visited the town I had a feeling ( at least at the beginning ) "home, sweet home".
Now it feels like visiting McDonald not moving out your car.
Town windows for necropolis and heaven are simply not acceptable.
They are not bad like H4 towns. They are just below crap.

I think you're comparison is dead on. They are no longer Town windows but Drive-Thru windows.

I believe that was whole point of making town windows. I guess they wanted to shift focus on adventure map and battles - or "the interesting stuff" and speed up gameplay.
Well... It's cute but, it's WRONG!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1YY54RI5YY)
After playing a lot of beta I can say:
- Town windows load up much slower then town screens in Heroes V
- On many occasions it happens that someone exits town and then reenters to do something that could be done without exiting (like trading resources in marketplace, exit, reenter, build). This is in direct link with windowed mode. Also in the beginning many of my friends clicked on the "End Turn" button when they wanted to exit window.
- Only benefit is that you know in which town you are because you can see minimap and part of adventure map, but people still like to first exit one town to enter another.
- Graphically as someone has mentioned they are beyond crap.
All this makes windows inferior solution and it actually slows down game. EPIC FAIL.

Yeah, townscreen takes a while to load but you can always click to the build tab and it will show immediately.
Just wondering, they mentioned that for the final game, the will be certain performance tweaks sorted out. Wondering if this will include town loading, and general graphics loading (esp hero graphic and movement path), cos on my Core 2 Duo it is quite slow loading up.

The same thing would apply for H4, but I never liked that game either.

Is this that BIG news that will make everybody happy? Is this what we were waiting for so long?
One sentence at the end of Q&A thread on Facebook? Really? Are PR people from UBI serious?
This has been "The One" major issue with new Heroes and source of unrest for over 6 months and we get one vague sentence...
The game release has been pushed from Q1 to Q4 2011 and only thing that entire community was asking to be fixed didn't get any attention at all.
"We all agree on the fact that the townscreens must be revised"? Of course we all agree, we agreed long tome ago but UBI didn't do ANYTHING about it. Not even communicate with fan base. And at the end when pressure was to high we get this joke of an answer. Its insulting.
There should be proper public release regarding this issue, with clear explanation what are next steps and time frame for it instead this soon™ piece of c..p answer.
On top of it all, can we expect free update of entirely reworked town windows? I guess if they try to sell us proper townscreens it would be fitting end for this entire fiasco.

I would be much more happy with a more specific promise, like;
"After release we will work hard to make a full screen, dynamic, interactive town screen for all the factions. It will be put in a patch, and you will not have to pay extra to get this feature that should have been in the game to begin with."

Wah? No way! Imagine them making it a DLC?! No snowing way!
No, no, no. Even Ubisoft are not that stupid!

You know, DLC doesn't mean you have to pay. There have been lots of free DLC (like the Mongol civilization for Civ 5 for example).

Don't know about them but I'm not gonna pay if new Town Screens will come with a price tag. I don't really believe that they would pull through something like that though. It's beyond stupid, it's an insult.
