Where did you get the idea that they were going to charge money for it?
I'm just glad that they've made an official statement saying that this is something they're working on.
Even if it's nothing new.

According to them, they couldn't change the model of two creatures due to their budget. I wonder, if Ubisoft didn't enlarge the budget to create two models, why would Ubisoft pay Black hole to create free Town Windows?

Because town screens are more important than unique creature models. I imagine they made that decision a while ago, and only just recently came up with a solution that will work well enough that they can say they're working on it.
That's my guess, anyway.

I hope they keep to their promise of releasing new town windows in an update, and not in a DLC...

If the DLC is free, what would be the problem with that? I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm curious as to your reasoning.

DLC and free is quite rare. Why would they give it for free when they can charge for it?
Anyway, I think it's out of the discussion. No way in Heaven and Hell, Mars and Pluto and anywhere else, that they would charge for fixing their town screens. Like I said: Beyond stupid and an insult.

But as was stated before, there are some DLC items that are free. Why couldn't this be one of them?
Lump it together with a random map generator; what would be wrong with that? Unless the new screen changes gameplay significantly enough that you have to have it (in which case it makes more sense as a patch), I don't see an issue with letting players choose whether or not they want to download it.
I mean, I agree with you, they shouldn't charge money for something that should have been in the initial release. But I'm working with the assumption that if they released this as a DLC, it would be free.

Well, I see this is as a patch. You download both of them, DLC and patches. The difference is DLC offers something new to the gameplay, patches improve faulty parts of the game. Patches are always free, DLC are costly.

Ah.
So town screens would be a patch that is free, and a random map generator would be a DLC that costs five dollars.
That makes sense.

Sorry, I meant that as an example to demonstrate the difference between patch content and DLC content.
Town screens are a flaw in the current software, requiring a patch. The RMG is an extra feature, thus making sense as DLC or as part of an expansion.

No, the lack of RMG is a flaw too! Undisputable fact. Must be fixed!

What alarms me is their unclear statement. What they said can mean anything.
To be honest I think that townscreens will be introduced in first expansion because in that case their cost can be integrated with cost of new towns/creatures.
We are just being naive thinking this will be fixed soon and free.

I think that the new Town Windows would be better as free DLC's than as a patch, since a player can prefer to play with the original ones.

Yeah, pretty much.
2.5D is a combination of 2D and 3D; one made to look like the other.
