Yeah, Aron and Sarcyan, u r right. The topic went so wilde that I almost forgot the initial premise.
But to contradict everything said (by me too) two of my favorite heroes (Gundula and Dessa) are in fact magic heroes. And I believe they are in the top twenty.
And I've notice that whe are forgeting some magic heroes that go in a different direction. All Haste specialists have a great pair of secs as do Adela and Labetha. All other Stoneskin specialists have Learning and without WoG increment that skill sucks. Now, to these heroes those spells work like we where defending. So, a level 20 Cyra with expert Air Magic and a few Archangels or Phoenixes is so dangerous as Tazar or Crag Hack. Make your Master Gremlins faster then Blackies and bye-bye mighty hero. I even believe this is the reason why there are no Slow and Shield specialists.
What is the damage reduction of a Stoneskin specialist at level 108? Is it too faraway from a Armourer specialist?
And why do people always mention the ugly Tazar and not the beautiful Neela?

For a few reasons, really:
- Neela starts off with Basic Scholar next to Basic Armorer, and Scholar is considered to be a crappy skill for a main Hero;
- Tazar starts off with Advanced Armorer so already has an edge over Neela there;
- The strongpoint of Fortress (Tazar) is defense, all of the Fortress creatures have a high defense skill, further increasing the usefulness of the Armorer skill;

I haven't used Tazar yet, but money can buy good looks these days, that's how it works in real life.
On a different note, I love this game soooooo much. I am working my way through the Necromancer campaign (Long Live the King) but I am experiencing some serious difficulties in the "From Day to Night" scenario.
There is no difference for me whether I choose a magic or a might hero, the CPU gives me a very hard time and ends up defeating all my heroes and castles. -Zounds and swarms of units, with a specially strong main hero, I end up suffering.
Gotta say that the Necros have a really fun castle. I also like Fortress. Had I to say just one though, I'd go with Rampart, because they have druids and rangers and nature. Still undecided though -only Inferno I am not a big fan of-

You have to break into the Haven territories fast and strike early. If you sit behind your borderguards and wait to build up your towns, you will lose - he has five towns, you only have three. Besides that, the AI seems to enjoy stockpiling his Griffins mainly on a single Hero and once a Griffin stack becomes too large, it's going to be a nightmare to handle since they have infinite retaliations. Your best bet would be archers, of which Necropolis is very low - in fact, they only have one.
It doesn't really matter if they recapture a town you've taken over, as it will have disrupted them regardless. Just make sure to retake it soon after.

XD Now you talked, those are most significant words! OMG, time to show you some photos.
Well, she is a person I don't know in real life, but I identify myself with her so much... I can't even describe with words how she makes me feel.
A woman like that was like love at first sight for me. She is 100000000% my type of woman. And in a way she is like the light that guides my life now, in the sense that when in doubt I think of her and that keeps me grounded, and she reminds me of who I am, constantly, the instant I see her in a photo or video and think of her. That's all to me. IT's like a platonic love, but that was always my ideal of a woman, and it's good to have dreams like that 'cos you keep going to fulfil them.
I don't thin I will ever meet her, but someone similar, maybe...
Well, a woman like this may have been inspired by god.

Thanks Maurice, as usual. Now that I mention it, I say "as usual" becasue I always leave those trees that level up your character for later because of your tips in another thread, which are quite helpful for anyone who plays this game -even some experts that might forget about some of those simple things- and use your advice whenever I can.
I managed to improve at that scenario, although I have had problems with it.
Thing is that I built lot of defences at first, in my first tries, but at some point the CPU was much more powerful, and Necro units don't stand a chance against Haven units in equal numbers -leant it the hard way-, 'cos I had good artifacts and better stats but my hero got beaten back and forth, when in fact I thought I had a chance.
Then I switched strategies and I decided not to upgrade my creatures in my castle at the Northwest, while upping the creatures in the other two castles to the max.
The idea behind that decision is that there is a Hill Fort that I found to the northwest too, relatively close to the castle -still 5 days away, 4 with logistics- and I thought that by not upgrading my creatures in the castle, they would be cheaper, so I could amass lots and lots of units.
Ultimately the decision was made 'cos I thought I'd save precious money and could build more creatures if I upgraded them in the Hill Fort. But I found two problems with that approach.
- Firstly, upgrading your units in the Hill Fort costs money. Getting units for free was key to my strategy, I thought I'd save money 'cos for some reason I believed Hill Forts upgrade your creatures for free, which isn't true. They cost the moneys.
- Secondly, once I upgraded the creatures I had to have another hero bringing new (non upgraded) units to upgrade them in the Hill Fort, because the primary hero had upgraded units, so visiting the castle to purchase and carry more units wasn't possible.
I lost precious time building that up.
Result: fatal loss.
Besides that, your advice tells me to rush early, and I didn't. For that, I could use the Ghosts Dragons as a bonus instead getting the item that gave me a necromancy bonus, this could save me from some headaches. But I got the necromancy bonus....
You get the idea. Beaten to a pulp.
I know about the new features Armageddon's Blade add to the game and I want to try them out, then the expansion Shadow of Death.
Although I shall probably play Heroes 3 Chronicles campaigns first, 'cos I watched the info about the Armageddon's Blade campaigns and their difficulty setting is hard by default iirc.
I haven't checked Shadow of Death, but that will probably be my favourite of the three because of the gameplay refinements.
After beating the necromancer campaign I've completed the Rampart campaign. T'was a walk in the park by comparison.
The other part of the campaign was the Haven and I don't like the Haven faction in Heroes 3 as much as others, mainly because of the art style, I guess. It's not my cup of tea.
So Heroes 3 Chronicles is next, then Heroes IV, which given the love and hate it generates and being the last work of those geniuses at New World Computing is the one I feel attracted the most, and then Heroes 5 once again.
Once my skills are up to par, I will go back to Heroes 3 Armageddon's Blade, and Heroes 3 Shadow of Death -very excited about this one too!! being the final expansion of Heroes 3...-, then Heroes 2 -evil campaign and expansions-, and mods afterwards, especially the Sucession Wars mod for Heroes 3, Equilibris for Heroes IV, and so on.
Maps, scenarios and then online play. That's the plan.
I tried Hot Seat mode yesterday, it was really fun.

Actually, I found that last mission of the Necromancer campaign to be a lot harder than any of the Armageddon's Blade campaigns or the Shadow of Death campaigns. Story-wise, I would play through Armageddon's Blade first, then Shadow of Death. They're pretty much prelude campaigns to Heroes IV. Do play the Chronicles games before Heroes IV though, as that series too is a prelude to Heroes IV.

Nice is not like: the most beautiful woman who as ever existed.
Grecs endured 10 years of war for Helena. I can't imagine a situation where get involved in a fight would help me to get a woman but even if I could, I hardly see myself fighting for her.

When I played this map about a week ago, I realized the Hill Fort was too out-of-the-way to be of much use. If one of my scouts happened to make it out that far, I'd use it to upgrade my Walking Dead or whatever stacks had joined me. Instead, I focused on upgrading dwellings in my central Necropolis. It was a lot easier ferrying un-upgraded troops to that town due to the roads.
Sarcyan said: Besides that, your advice tells me to rush early, and I didn't. For that, I could use the Ghosts Dragons as a bonus instead getting the item that gave me a necromancy bonus, this could save me from some headaches. But I got the necromancy bonus....
Every time I complete a campaign mission, I save to a special slot (in my case, something like "Campaign" or "Mission"). That way, it saves right before you select your bonus for the next mission. If you made a bad choice, you can reload and pick another one. I've always chosen the Ghost Dragons, using them in conjunction with Animate Dead whenever one or more perished.
This mission gave me huge problems years ago, but I guess I play better nowadays. I immediately sent Volkial north with the Ghost Dragons to capture the artifacts, and then sent him either west or east to help clear mines. Pushing south early on and taking a Castle town helps, although you need to be prepared to gain, lose, and regain such acquisitions due to the strong enemy heroes. If you develop your starting towns' creature dwellings well across the first few weeks (and periodically upgrade your gold income), you'll have a good number of Vampire Lords, Dread Knights, and Ghost Dragons at your disposal. I cannot stress enough the need to take Gold from every chest you find; it's just a better investment in maps like this.

As they say, there is no accounting for taste. It’s all about whatever floats your boat. She is the woman that impressed me the most when I first saw her, ever. And I think it’s something I will keep with me permanently.
Reasons? Many. She has exactly the kind of features I like the most; hair, nose, eyes, lines, prominent teeth… it’s just perfection to me. I am glad to be passionate about her, and about the fact that I muster up the energy to tell about her to others and share. Besides that, there could be easily a bit of narcissism behind my reasoning, dunno.
I chose her as my favourite, but I am usually torn between her and Sophie Ellis Bextor, which has also something special to me.
My sister knows how much I love Sophie Ellis Bextor (I also purchased her albums, the last one too), and when she sees her on the TV there she comes running as if she was in a rush; “Cose, Cose, Cose!! Come here, it’s Sophie Ellis Bextor on the TV!”. My sister knows my tastes.
Sophie is quite THE woman, large and beautiful…, what can I say.
In my Facebook account, in fact, my cover photo is this one;
And my profile photo is one of the photos from Laura Jackson I shared in this thread. I think this kinda draws the whole picture in regards to tastes.
A couple of Sophie Ellis Bextor videos for yah'

I ended up watching the entire video. She doesn’t look bad at all, I like her nose and her soft features, and she has a talent for broadcasting, because of her natural charm. Not 100% my type of woman but I understand what you mean.
I am not Portuguese but I like and understand Portuguese (like 98% of the language, writing in Portuguese is where I have the most trouble, but I can talk for hours with a person who speaks Portuguese to me).
Funny that you mention it because I had a huge crash on a portuguese woman, an actress called Ines Castel-Branco. I stayed there for a few months, in a place called Fanhoes –relatively close to Lisboa- , people were very kind to me…
I used to see her on the TV while watching a show called Batanetes, my favourite show. It was so fun! I always ended up crying with laughter. Ines was so beautiful –by MY standards, of course-.
In addition, other women I like and to whom I dedicated an album on my Facebook account are Judy Bowker -which I've seen first in a classic Dracula movie on the TV and found her amazingly beautiful- and another English girl, Melissa Clarke.
Normally, like in a tech forum I am registered on, I'd have Laura Jackson and Sophie Ellis Bextor in my signature, but I ran out of space here for what I wanted to say in my signature.

You remember it well, then, 'cos it was hell. You really need to make a lot of good decisions there to thrive.
That part of the campaign actually left me wanting to play the most relaxing campaigns of other titles of the franchise, 'cos it was very demanding, and the "smarter" the strategy I developed the tougher it was for the CPI but I got always beaten in the end.
I am going to follow your recommendation and try Armageddon's Blade next. Then Shadow of Death.
Heroes Chronicles... I tried it for a bit, but since it lacks Windowed Mode and I got used to Heroes 3 HD when I tried it I couldn't stand the game compared to Heroes 3, because of the upscaling on full screen.
I gotta find a solution, but my GPU isn't 16 bit compatible, it only accepts 32 bits colour... so no Windowed mode for me, and it is my favourite mode in every single game when using Windows 8.
Regarding Heroes IV, I am so excited to try it. I know that for you it creates conflicting voices in your head.
To me.. the very little I played it (I chose Nature, and in fact I like the approach with factions more than in Heroes 3, which seemed confusing to me, like Fortress, Dungeon, Castle..., why Fortress has anything to do with witches? and things like that) it was magical.
The first Heroes IV campaign that I tried was the lovers one. And I felt indescribable sensations when the beautiful music began to sound, then the howling of the little wolf whose story the game tells you before giving you control of the wolves den and they become allies.
What I loved about it was how each new creature had a little story behind it -like the wolves, the pixies...-, very much like role-playing --something which was alsocommon in HoMM 2 but not as common in HoMM 3.
What I didn't like, was the clumsy animation at times and the jumpy framerate, at times too. My PC runs Heroes V at 60 fps using 2k resolutions, and Heroes IV is much less demanding. So it's something related to the engine and the animation, I think.
I also didn't like how "dangerous" the environment can be. I was walking towards a pot with a rainbow that gives you good luck and some enemies appeared out of the blue.
The army consisted of my main hero, the pixies, and my wolves! Still, they beat me but I wasn't ready for that battle yet.
Being the last game of a troubled company then, I was impressed with it, and whether people like it or not it has a place in history. From the little I've seen I am very likely to fall for it, because it is a beautiful game, in essence.

Thanks for the tips. The tip regarding the additional slot would make life easier for me.
You certainly noticed that the Hill Fort was relatively far away from the nearest castle. I can attest to that. I had a hero with logistics but still it wasn't the ideal strategy, even if the Hill Fort upgrades were free, which they aren't.
What surprised me the most about your strategy in that map is that you use chests to get gold instead of experience. I always got experience to upgrade my main hero as quick as possible......
Gold is essential in that map, I agree, and that was my reasoning behind the harebrained Hill Fort strategy, which was nothing more than convenient in very specific situations. But I lost a few moves with my main hero taking the experience from every chest in the initial area where the necromancers begin, instead of getting the gold with everyone else and searching for the artifacts and buildings around with my main hero.
Still, I was lucky enough in a game to confront one of the opponent heroes by sheer chance, which had pretty good artifacts -in addition to those you can get close to your first castle, which are also really good- and even with those and a decent army Volkial got beaten by one of the strongest heroes of the CPU.
You seem to know first hand how much of a headache that scenario can be. That might be related to how much I think about the game.
A few nights ago, I had a Heroes of Might and Magic esque dream where 5 or 6 creatures from HoMM were in. I don't remember the actual content of the dream at this point, however.

I was enthralled watching how she played the piano and some of the poses she made at times, especially at the end to play pperfeclty. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
What two girls? Do you mean Judy Bowker and Mellisa Clarke or Sohie Ellis Bextor? Someone else?

hahah, that sounds like a love letter. But you should decide which one you prefer, either Lola or Catarina.
If I learnt ERM I could also try that, but I hope I get the code right and it's actually "shuttle boat" instead of "scuttle boat".
EDIT: Judging by your tastes you could probably like this girl, Boogie. She is Hungarian, and her song "Parfum", in her original Magyar language is incredible. I like her very much in every possible way.
The video is just out of this world, and is about how Photoshop can enhance your looks. The most impressive thing is that the video shows the Photoshop effects in real time while she sings :

No, Hill Fort upgrades are only free for level 1 creatures, but level 2, 3 and at least 4 have substancial but decresing discounts.
I looked a bit in the Library to see if I could find the exact values but I didn't, even if I know the information is there cause I read it recently.
I don't remember that campaign, probably never even tried it, but the money u save from upgrading one or two weeks of level 1 to 5 full production can be enouch to compensate a lot of chests taken for experience.
But the only way Necro can beat Castle is to develop faster or assemble the Cloack of the Undead King. Full set of upgraded Castle is MUCH BETTER then Necro.

I found the full info here:

It's the Long Live the King campaign, more specifically, the last scenario. A very fun campaign overall, imho.
I've started to play Armageddon's Blade campaign, according to the plans and the advice given here. Then I tried to continue my save game in Heroes IV...
Well.., I've strolled aimlessly in the map a little, visited the wolves den, the pixies, etc.
It turned out that the music is incredible, but other than that I got mixed feelings about the game. Furthermore, it was rather bad.
I didn't like that the sound of some buildings caused that the harmony of the music were hidden behind those sounds.
They are looped for some reason. The combat is okay but not very refined. It is confusing, tactically wise, it doesn't feel like chess that much, in that sense it doesn't have the spirit of previous HoMM games.
I attacked a building, and my pixies didn't fly over the walls, but they pierced the walls, like some leprechauns guarding that town, they attacked me through the walls.
The combat is not that bad, although the stats aren't as obvious and clear to see --something so typical heroes that seems absent here.
Where is the icon of a horse that leads you where you wanted to go in the previous turn but you couldn't reach there and had to use more than one turn? I miss that icon.
Potions are something I don't like at all. They distract you from the strategy, smart choices and decision making, which is what defines HoMM.
You need a turn to drink a potion and the game becomes more mundane, like using a med kit in a FPS. That's not what people love about HoMM, I think.
It adds unnecessary hassle to the game, imho. And you don't feel smart about that decision, using a potion is something you choose to do because you have to --my hero was about to die.
Information on enemies is not as easy to see as in other HoMM games, unless I am missing something.
The grid and the perspective are so so. You can see the imperfections in the terrain, it feels more organic and real, but at the same time I have a hard time calculating how far an enemy can go and once again, it's not so much about playing chess anymore, but keeping your hero alive in the battlefield.
I don't dislike the game and I want to play it some more time later when I complete Heroes 3 and Chronicles, but I am rather pointing out the flaws that I've found.
As of now, no game makes me feel what I feel with Heroes 2, Heroes 3 and Heroes 5, because each one of them is unique and great.
Had I to define them metaphorically. Heroes 2 is beyond judgment, it deserves to go to heaven. Heroes 3 is peace and calm, you cannot go wrong with it. Heroes 4 is maybe not as warm as you expected it'd be, but you could fall for it if you give it a real chance. Heroes 5 is sheer love, and it feels like you have found what you've waiting for.
That to me defines the life cycle of the series, with the final evolution in Heroes 5 -for now, I didn't play Heroes 6 yet-, taking the best of the series, losing something in the process and adding some unique features.
My impressions might change, as Heroes IV is the game I played the less. I am still around 1 hour in it. So for now I'm still withholding my judgement on the game.
Some things are wonderful and awesome, others are so so, but since I played Heroes IV less time, I want to see it.
