Thanks Limbic (gomaki) for informing us. Shadow council website is for the last months quite dead, as regards Ubi communication. Yes, we get info about patches, but nothing more.
No anwers of our questions, no more info. No wonder people lose their faith about this game.

I plan to start posting there more often also but I'm not really a fan of it being one giant comments section if i'm honest. But once all the account is verified I'll help bolster the ranks of communication there as well. As for now you can always help me by pointing people in the right directions or copy and pasting my replies if i've given out the information else where. Something like this until I can just in.

Hey people. I just bought AOW3 yesterday because of it's good reputation regarding stability. My first experience: RMG crashed on me 4 times (every second try). Ok, it was an extra large map with special options, but why include it if it's so buggy? Just sharing my experience of a game which is said to be exceptionally bugfree and is patched for already like 1,5 years... I guess next time I'll buy something from 2013... and buy H7 in 2019?

No kidding.
You know, when I had the opportunity to speak about the blog during the event, someone asked me what was wrong with the SC and how it could be improved. I started to give very basic suggestions like when an article is being published, moderator opens a thread (a real one, in the community section which never opened) for councilors to discuss, as on any normal forum. I bet lots of fans who, as you, avoid this overflooding facebook-like system would have participated more and probably give good insight, as it can happen here or in CH for instance. Next website update gave us a report button. No comments really. I truly did my best and tried to improve the "official way" from the inside, but it turns out people said "thank you" then never did anything in the end. I was also being told the simple things I asked for were unlikely to happen and that the SC platform was a real attempt to listen to the community despite all, and even if these returns seemed genuine, facts says otherwise. Not only the game designs decisions set in stone from the beginning were not discussed with community (and VIPs inputs not even that considered) all the small fixes which could still have worked out for the best (regarding hero specials, creature abilities, town construction, even magic system or basic skills and so on) weren’t implemented for a release which seemed to be –tell me if I’m wrong- rushed like hell. It is commendable you’re doing your best to fix a maximum via patches, but really should it be this way: release first patch later? Now the game had an overall bad reception from the players and I could bet good money it would have done much better if less than half of the community’s inputs during last year has been taken into consideration (#WTYSBYKB).
Now we have to repeat for the x1000 time we don’t want for instance level cap for you to hear it and maybe we’ll get it. I’d be glad to be proven wrong about h7 if the game turns out to be really good in a year or two but please trust me, for that to happen you need to redesign some of the core game, about aspects many of us soared our throats about already.

My thoughts exactly Im just so disappointed how the mechanics and all turned out. I was excited before when they said they would go back to the roots and ask the community for help in making decisions about the games core elements, but it didnt go that way after all... And now we are stuck with these core mechanics for who knows how long...

@gomaki

Bonus points for you thou for joining us here and being open and keeping us informed about the current situations and updates nice work.

Game hasn't crashed on me once, except two or 3 times in PBEM (beta) mode, and I'm playing it since its release; you ma want to change a couple of settings concerning graphics and so on - or you may have minimum RAM requirement.

Is it me or is the camera angle from the 8 bit version better than that of the original one? I personally think it's just right. The only downside I could find is that I couldn't zoom out more, would've been perfect otherwise.

But that situation was announcing itself as months passed by, and it wasn't for a lack of inquiries and some spamming: "What about mechanics? How does this work?" Silence. It was too early to tell anything, they said. What the heck were they doing then? Making campaigns? Making a game satelliting a story? What happened to the 'we don't want this game to be an RPG?' When they simply made one game revolving around a story; less likely to be RPG is almost impossible.

Remember that every time they would publish an article with some artwork, describe things - usually lore-related, like the story of a class or of a beast -, then regarding mechanics of those things they just posted there wouldn't be explained. You would know the three main skills of a class, but you wouldn't know how they actually worked, what they meant exactly. You would know the name of a unit, but you didn't know what it could do - being constantly at danger of having signature-abilities changed, like lich, but without knowing so far.

These articles kept going on like that past April. It was completely clear that they didn't want to change mechanics whatsoever, which was marginally when I was 150% sure I wouldn't buy it. It was already set in stone. Which was then revealed when they published that Design/Skill Philosophy article. And that article merged with the other guy saying that they didn't know how to make a Heroes game, what it was all about, just simply transpired a bad result.

I had the hope, when I first heard of this game, that it would be pleasantly surprising, which is to say, it would have a soul of its own, not crawling under the shadows of the old installments, nor walking the same path of fails of all of them either (like releasing a buggy and crashing game - after 4, 5 and 6, how many more are needed to learn this lesson?). Its current state is inexcusable. And this is speaking of it, of it only. I won't compare and judge it's normal these days having buggy games at release. It's just being lenient with bad habits, which must be pruned because they become 'normal' and 'cool' altogether.

Now, just think they should finish what they should have done, which is fix the game and make it work, but I'm not sure if I would expect any better right now. It'll be a matter of rebuilding trust, which is far harder than destroying it.

No, I'm far above minimum requirements (2000$ gaming laptop). And what does map generation has to do with graphics??? Did you try at all to generate an extra large map (with max players)? Because that is what I was talking about. H5 extra large map generator with max players for example never crashes on me (playing on the same laptop).

Ok man you've found a glitch in the game and seems like the map generation of AOW3 doesn't work properly for extra large maps. Other than that, the game runs smooth, and didn't need 1 year and half for it, it did run smooth the first day even in my outdated laptop (that couldn't run H7 with more than 5 fps in small maps). And it also looks good, and scale and proportion are appropriate unlike in H7.

I'm not a great fan of its formula but at least I can tell that the game is solid. So spare the comparison because the game are a world apart in terms of quality and polish.

I know what you are talking about, and yes, of course I generated such maps. Takes one and a half minute, roughly, for the game to create XL 8 player map with UG, but it's not a problem.
Are you patched up? Official current version is 1.703 (1.704 is in Steam-Beta). Official build should be 17097, currently.
Another thing is this: if you run a double graphics adapter, that is, an integrated Intel 4000 and an Nvidia 860 or some such you will have to tell your Laptop that the game must be run with the Nvidia card, not with the Intel (in the  control panel click on the Nvidia control panel, pick the program tab, pick the AoW3 program Exe and tell it you prefer to run it with Nvidia card).
I had to do this with my MSI G70, so chances are, if you have a highQuality laptop, this might be your problem as well.

However others say that they do not have this performance issue, so it is all subjective. It's all about the first impression, anything can ruin your experience. For example, I was just not lucky that I like to play extra large maps and this is how my experience with the game began (Btw. AI turns on this map are slow like hell). And I am not talking about initial releas. AOW is likely much better in this respect. I am talking about the state of a game after a year (or years) of patching. You cannot know whether H7 reaches same level or not. Also I am not talking about the content (I actually like AOW concepts), just strictly bugs.

I'm calling this a poor choice of words, performance issues can't be subjective. And why're you trying to excuse the bugs of Heroes 7 by pointing at the bugs of AoW3? Is that how things work in your opinion?

OK, thanks for the Graphic card info, I'll check it, but I didn't have a problem with graphics so far, just the map generator (it crashes half-way of the progress bar, before initiating the screen). I bought the game two days ago, so I presumed steam downloads the game patched to the latest version. But maybe I'm unfair here, since as I see the game is still in the patching process, I should have waited a bit more... Oh well.

I mean his sort of performance issue. Or did you also have that 5fps problem? I'm not excusing them, I'm just talking about the posibility of H7 reaching equivalent level of polish in a year or so. I mean what you are talking about is a justified moral issue (the big bad UBI etc. - I agree here), but I am looking at it from a practical point of view.

I've been checking the forums for this and found that someone would crash with setting Fertile Plains to maximum in an all-land map. The guy said this wouldn't happen with continents or island maps.

Nothing else, though.

And patching is more or less complete - the issues in 1.704 are all mod-related.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I'm playing max size all-land (Don't care about continents and island maps, it's not a civ game after all Don't rember if I messed around with fertile plains settings, I'll check it on saturday. Maybe for extra large it is by default on max. Seems I was really unlucky choosing these settings for my very first game

Don't exactly have 5 fps but not over 30 either, and my machine has fairly decent specs. Problem is this issue is global. TB in his H7 review mentioned that he had "a monster PC" but the game still ran like snow. Majority of voices on Steam complain about facing similar scenarios. I experience the same. Conclusion? Poor optimization and performance ratio. Sure, it can get better given time and all that, but aren't people asking for such understanding from users a bit presumptuous? People judge what they pay for and that's all they're supposed to do. No one owes any understanding to the devs, especially after paying a full price. And let's be fair, for all we know the positive scenarios that one might come up with might not be more than wishful thinking. So why bother? There's nothing we can do and there's nothing we should do. Limbic's getting paid, not us. All we should do is enjoy the show.
