They were more WH like on H5 but have now gotten different from the source matrial. Again dark elves are a common fantasy trope, even the old universe had a version of them, so whats wrong with them.

@Galaad: Sorry yes you did. I never said that Ashan had better story-telling. I Saied Ashan has a better story setting. Story-telling in Ashan is rather bad, but it's getting better. A bit slowly but it' getting there. While H4 story telling is great, or so I heard, due to the fact that the game has lost me.
The reason I respect Ashan more, is that it took its own way. It never tried to be the next Enroth, it knew it would never be. Axeoth did this and it didn't even give me the chance to voice my opinion. You have this now. And I would like to see people use this power wisely. Especially you.

Ahem! I believe that Assassins and Matriarchs are indeed Dark Elves of origin.
It is the name of the faction that is called Dungeon.
Anyway, I got really excited at the realisation of the fact that there is only 3 Weeks of Earth's time for the official start of Spring.

I wonder tho. If Ashan would came first, and Enroth would come later, would people think of Ashan diferently? Maybe they would think Enroth sucks? It's truly a thing we would never know.

I think community would have really tough time digesting The Kreegan. If UBI decided to introduce something like that, $hit would fly all over the place...

well, I don't think I would ever be able to stomach Ubi's stories for Heroes 5 and 6 even if NWC had been the developers of those games lol

Poor wrinting doesn't get better with time so no, Ashan would probably still suck.
I actually don't care much for either setting but the fact that Ashan is very specific in its poorly constructed lore makes it harder for me to immerse in the world then the very vague but ultimately a lot more charming Enroth.
Enroth isn't a better universe because of its lore but because it is very vague and mythical and the things that could happen were near limitless since Enroth freely took inspiration from many mythologies. By the time H4 came out the setting became a lot more stable and less prone to changes (except for infernopolis) because by then it had its own establised charm and had less need of experimenting.
Ashan on the other hand got rid of almost everything except some lineups and tried to replace 4 games worth of lore(plus the rpgs) in one game and did it cramming as much poorly constucted lore in it as possible. The fact that this lore was heavily inspired by just one setting(WH) instead of many was only made worse by the fact that it was inferior to the one it took inspiration from in every way and the way things look this won't change even after 3 games being set in Ashan.
From the storytelling point of view the series peaked with H4(it was already pretty damn good in the H3 expansions but H4 was the best). But it wouldn't have mattered if the H4 storylines happened in Ashan because the stories didn't force (mediocre)lore down your throat and instead focused on the characters and their place in the world and didn't try to invent legendary heroes(who are all unremarable) at every opportunity it got.

whether or not you thought the lore of the Kreegans was compelling or absurd, what matters is that it didn't interfere with the Inferno's art direction in the Heroes games whatsoever, unlike Ashan's perverse Spideropolis and its baldy, floating neon venom lich lol

The Kreegan first appeared in cRPG Might and Magic 6, where there was a whole plot around them - so you knew their history, their biology, their life cycle and their goals. They appeared in Heroes of Might and Magic 3 one year later - so you probably knew their history if you were interested in game lore. If not, you have "just" devils and that's all.
Vampire Knights first appeared in Heroes of Might and Magic 5 as a unit with few lines of text. They (will) appear in Heroes 7 with also few lines of text. There is no cRPG which would explein their history or goals.
That is main difference - the way how both creatures were introduced and how much we know about them. Also the Kreegan were something out of heroes' world and didn't have to follow "medieval" rules, while Vampire Knights are bond to Ashan lore and rules.

Till 7 months ago i tought kreegan where demons and not aliens looking like demons.
I'm not big fan of combining fantasy with sci fi. I'm lover of old overdone fantasy.
