So what's this about the Celts? Why choosing that inspiration? Just asking.

IIRC the lore doesn't mention it, it's just so obvious that they're aiming for a celtic look.

Celts have a reputation, in common culture, of one of the most nature related cultuures.
It is no surprise why most elf depictions in fantasy take a lot from their imigary.

Allegedly Ubisoft wanted Might and Magic to look and feel different from the usual fantasy universes, so for each faction they chose an alternative source of inspiration. Sylvan was Amerindian with Celtic influences, Dungeon was inspired by the Italian Renaissance etc.

Sylvan core looks okay to me. Pixie and Dryad are indeed a little bit too similar, I'd just add a satyr instead... but "we" voted the line-up I like how pixie breaks that damn color scheme, finally. Too bad heroes 7 is broken beyond repair

I figured it was some kind of a joke, but I didn't get the reference at all and was legitimately confused what Mike Tyson has to do with blue facial markings.

I know that and you know that. Some russians don't(mostly kidding here). Lots of people have complained on the shadow council.for me the alternative would be a trio of genderless pixies. Smth like the ghost in heroes 5 but smaller amd surrounded by a whirl of magic dust or smth.
@minastir
The tatoos are there to make the guys more badass i guess since people complained about h5 elves being too feminine? Just a theory.
I guess you are right, again xD. And yeah, a group of three small pixies would be great.

Yeah, few people that disagree with the post and hundreds of those that agree.
Besides, I believe the problem was in the proposal of the line-ups, they were too flawed:
*Strength had the root snake in core (a lot of people didn't want that), plus the emerald knight, which was drawn similar to the latest Hobbit movie, but had the unicorn
*Balance was similar to Strength, but had treat in elite (a bit silly if you ask me), the emerald knight and the phoenix as champ
*Fury has both faeries and that moon doe
But remember, after seeing the concept arts, people wanted the blade dancer, which looks way lot different than in the concept arts. Even if they put "unofficial artwork" and "work in progress", it felt like details would be changed, like the size of the blades. Even druid(ess) back then did not wear that deer helmet.
So all in all, it was but a hype. Nobody had thought about the skills, nor their stats, nor nothing related to it. Heck, even the vote was *broken* because it did not even mention blade dancer's upgrade. It is a minor detail, but considering how much details are of relevance now... Plus, we did not have a second round, unlike Dungeon.

Personally i find it wrong to make the treant chanmpion.
My ideal lineup (future threat will be created) would have been this:
Satyr / Satyr Hoplite (fast damage dealing unit)
Pixie / Sprite (flyer, fast, no retaliation)
Archer / Sharpshooter (Giant Slaying ability, shoot and move)
Stag / Stag Rider (Strike and return, Inspiring presence)
Unicorn / Alicorn (Gains flying ability with upgrade, blind attack etc)
Treant / Ancient Treant
Green Dragon / Jade Dragon
Phoenix / Prime Phoenix
I cannot give all the info just yet

You know, if you followed Bastion you can expect a full explanation of abilities, description and background for this. It is not just throwing in some names and be done with it
But my bad for posting it... i know

Am I the only one who is upset about the fact that the units people voted on look almost nothing like the units we received?
I was unaware of the shadow council until the Dungeon Inferno vote, so I did not vote on the Sylvan lineups or on Fortress vs Sylvan (If I had been around I would have fought tooth and nail for Fortress, Dwarves never receive the respect they deserve). And even if I was there, I would never have voted Fury.
However I would be exceptionally PO'd (and am a bit anyway) if I had voted for a cool new take on a sprite, a Dryad with awesome vine-whips, and a totally badash Bladedancer, and then received a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Sprite, a floating tree-ghost and a poorly designed and highly unimpressive Bladedancer.
I know that they were concept art, but still, the Pixie at least has nothing to do with what we were presented with. I have nothing against this version but it is not what people voted on. I personally find this Dryad to be very boring compared with the original art, and the Bladedancer is really just pathetic (from what I have seen anyway).
I view this as a fairly shady thing to do. I know that many people voted on Fury because the Bladedancer art was really well done. If people knew what the units would ACTUALLY have ended up like would we have a different winner? As I said, I don't really care that much (I find the deer okay and while I would have liked to see the root snake I have never really cared about Sylvan), I am just curious why no one seems to have an issue with what happened.

Because they wanted to show something akin to the unit and not the final one as they could come up with it.
They always said that the artworks were only for visual purposes and not the final unit or the actual unit or the reference for it.
On their part they never did something wrong. They never said, "Hey this is what you get"

I am aware of this, but I KNOW that a lot of people on the shadow council voted of Fury solely because of that damn Bladedancer artwork. they should not have put those pictures out in the first place. It changed what people voted on, even with them saying that they were not actual artwork. There is an unfortunate amount of people who never take the time to actually read the fine print, and jump to conclusions based on a pretty picture.
