Darkem said: According to recent votes we won't see Manticores in Dungeon. Does it make Lammasu a part of Necropolis line-up?
I'd be extremely pleased with such a news. What do you think?
I think this pulls out again the Egyptian/Hauntish feel controversy. Lamasu would be great along Anubis, but then all the faction should get this feel with Mummies and such, and get a “Death-Pharaons” full reskin. I really found the faction off in Ubi games with things like swordmen teleporters but they are vampires stuff. Change of atmosphere suggests change of units to me, and as much as I would love to see a truly Egyptian evil Necro town, I find it a failure trying to mix it with something emanating a totally different feel.
I believe in artistic design compromises between different worlds are likely to fail, as a vision is supposedly closest to the tiniest details to fit the creator's perception.
So if Limbic decides to get the the H3 feel back, I am against Lamasu, as much as I see the connection you make with the Manticore.

In H6 Necropolis was the flyer/shooter faction, we'll see whether the devs keep that style in H7, though Academy seems to be taking that role judging by the leaked lineup...
If they drop the H6 theme AND units then I hope Necropolis gets a reinvention instead of simply reverting back to H3/H5 style, like how I previously mentioned, they could try to leave the Lich out this time for example and come up with something new.

However, most of the heroes are described as powerful Liches/Vampires, and some unit descriptions already talk about Liches (remember the Direwolf description?). As much as I'd like the to break the mold, it'd be unlikely that they'd go through with it.

I have somewhat of an Idea for a totally radical improvement...
...but, I'd rather want to see what the devs. have in mind, before making any speculation of how different, the Necro. Line-up of units can, possibly come out.
Just, plain, too many possibilities, roaming my mind, at this very moment.

Ahahah you beat me to it.
Undead should be horror-like creature in my opinion, not floating armors.

I also think...
the Undead should be repulsive and horrific creatures. Their most asthetic unit should be the fleshless Skeleton, and other than it- all the rest should show signs of fatal injuries and decay. Take for example my Zombie replacement unit suggestion, the Wight (upgraded to Mummy). According to lore, Wights are created from corpses (some whisper also live sacrifices) inserted in deep bogs, to be preserved by the magically-imbued mud and climate conditions. BTW, that's actually how Mummies were made in Europe.
While outside they are quite well-preserved (though still withered and showing some signs of decay, like around the mouth), inside they are totally rotten and house nests of crawling and swarming insects, whom they can spit as a suitably-disgusting ranged attack.
Vampires should also be hunched, sickenningly-white creatures with batlike features, like in H3 and TV series "The Strain". Maybe some Vampires heroes can resume a normal, human appearance as they increase in age and power, or it's all just an illusion hiding their real monstrosity.
Deadly grace and elegance fits Dungeon. Necropolis are horrific monsters who were once alive and now just want your brains, blood and souls. And as I said- I'll make the default Necropolis the Cult of the Void, and make the Cult of Asha a campaign-only faction (who get Fate Spinners instead of Elder Ones).

Good Necropolis Lineup
Core
1. Zombie/Revenant
2. Poltergeist/Vengeful Spirit
3. Banshee/Lady in White
Elite
4. Wight/Wraith
5. Vampire/Dhampir
6. Lich/Eternal Lich
Champion
7. Death Knight/Death Lord
8. Grim Reaper/Death Reaper
Heroes
1. Jack - Once was one of the strongest and noblest knight of the Falcon Empire, he was betrayed and beheaded. Now he uses a pumpkin as a head to hunt the living.
2. Mary - also known as Bloody Mary. Mary was a radical follower of Ylath. When Haven's Empire was about to be converted, she tortured and killed those who follow Elrath. Time came when her own people turned on her and burned her to the stakes. Now, she has nothing but revenge.
3. Samara - once was a child who brought plague and death in her hometown, Samara was thrown into a well by her own mother. She stayed there for 7 days only to suffer from hunger and die. Now, she comes back to hunt the living.
4. Lord Vein

Ok, I would propose a more original Necropolis, void and disease themed of course.
CORE
Cave Screecher->Vampire (giant bats)
Revenant->Moroi (more than your average zombies, they got plague bubos and moroi has a big anomaly on its back full of puss and void energy)
Fiery Dead->Burning Horror (burning skeletons that absorb fire damage)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELITE
Plague Doctor->Plaguemeister (instead of liches, they throw flasks of noxious substances and fumes over their enemies (death cloud) , as well as healing/reviving their allies)[pic]
Iron Mutilator->Iron Bonebreaker ( death knights on foot, clad from head to toe in metal, they use two-handed maces to crush their enemies)
Cross-bearer->Dark Herald (a semi-mummified muscular undead which holds a large metal cross-like weapon with sharp edges, his bandages are soaked in blood, upgrade has some armor, they cast a random curse on attack)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHAMPION
Ankou->Death Reaper (reapers on horse, has h3 death gaze )[pic base][pic upg]
Void Abberation->Nether Terror (horrifying creatures from the void, combination of maws, bones, living wounds, muscles, a living mass of gore that resembles a four-legged beast, otherworldly undead/spirit of death)

The Void cult in Necropolis appeared with Sandro and most of its members were banished from Heresh because of it. Asha's death aspect cult is very strong in Necropolis and is pretty sensible for me. Besides, in Heroes VII we won't probably see Fate Spinners at all (after events of SoD Bone Dragons became leading champions) and also due to some kind of extinction which I have described in some other thread a few weeks ago.

@LizardWarrior
"a semi-mummified muscular undead"......hmmm....sth like Ma'mra(or however he's called) from Thundercats?? Not bad!!
Anyways, I like your lineup, not only for the units you chose but mostly for the way you "see" Necropolis (aka the way you think it should be -let's say- "reintroduced" into the game).

They used magically imbued mud in Europe to create mummies?

He's talking about the Tollund Man from Denmark, aka the most well preserved mummy in the world. They never intended to make him a mummy tough, he was hanged then throw into a swamp. The swamp's mud preserved him almost perfectly.

To be more precise - mud due to the fact that oxygen's solubility in mud is terribly low, microbes that are responsible for decomposition (reaction occuring during it require quite a lot of oxygen) of bodies are preserved. However, during storage in mud all bones are dissolved (pH of mud is acidic), therefore if such thing would be ressurected, it would not be able to stand, hence such mummy is poor (realistically looking) idea.

LizardWarrior- wow!
Really like your line-up- especially since our Champions are practically the same. It's amazing, and really original- reminds me of horror movies and games like Silent Hill. Bravo!
Just two small critcisms: there is some overlap between the Iron Mutilator and Cross Bearer, perhaps they could be united. Also, the faction is missing a spectral undead unit, and I think Vampires should also stay as their own unit rather than a Vampire bat. Perhaps they could become Core units, like Vampire-spawn (think the Strain's vampiric minions), with true Vampires being heroes?
