See here my celtic necropolis of awesomeness!!!
And yes, these are mythological monsters, but I made up some things to make them more homm-suiting. Their appearance however = 100% match to the ones in mythology.
CORE
1: Black Shuck --> Barghest = Also known as the Black Dog, Hound of Ill Omen or Death Dogs, these terrible hounds of death and doom lurk the night with their terrible red eyes, seeing them is a sign of death and despair. They are shadow hounds and have powers over darkness and shadow. (Walker, very fast)
2: Revenant --> Vengeance Incarnate = Looking a bit like a mix of zombie and skeleton but being so much more than both. The revenants are forces of vengeance and attack their attackers with wrath unheard of in other creatures. (Walker, but ranged spirital retaliate-attacks on ranged attackers)
3: Will O Wisp --> Witch Fire = While these appear to be innocent little balls of multicolored lights, the Will O Wisps are fear-parasites that feed on your dying energy and fear, luring you into traps and stunning you with their electric attacks so you make a easy prey for other predators. (Flyer, caster)
ELITE
1: Lavellan --> Lavellan Plaguebearer = Extremely (in myth the most poisonous) poisonous rat-mutant monsters that can even poison creatures that stand in their aura's, they are poisonous to even the creatures that are otherwise immune to poisons. They corrupt any environment and turn the landscape into a death wasteland with only their presence. (Walker, poisons every attacker that attacks it with melee-attacks)
2: Banshee --> Maiden of Death = Female elves that died with envy of the living, their wails are deadly and pronounce only death. (ranged, flyer)
3: Dullahan --> Dullahan Doombringer = Male elves that were punished for horrible crimes, they now haunt the earth as headless horseman with whips created from the spines of their victims. Their head-collection is macabre and when they stop riding, close creatures lose hope. (Walker, caster)
CHAMPION
1: Jack-In-Irons --> Executioner = Horrible giants dressed in animated chains they use to capture their poor preys with, these creatures are addicted to torture and are often hired by other creatures as executoniers and torturers. (Walker)
2: Soul Reaper --> Ankou = So much more than just a Grim Reaper, these horrible reapers reap the souls of the weak and strong alike and store them in their macabre lanterns. (Teleporting, Spellcaster)
OTHER POSSIBLITIES: Creatures from celtic/english/scottish/irish/manx myths that spread or resemble DEATH.
Fear Gorta = Creatures of famine and hunger, Fear Gorta are very thin corpses grown over by Hunger Grass.
Brollachan = Creatures made of fear and fae fog, when trapped inside this mist these creatures show you (or turn into) your worst fear.
Nuckelavee = The most terrible creatures alive, spreaders of disease and plagues. They feed on other creatures that disrupt nature.
Arrach = Very fast and agile spider like horrors that always seem to be behind you.
Bocanach = Evil satyr-like creatures with cause war and hate.
Bloody Bones = The most terrifying of all bogeymen, looking like crawling, bloody skeletons with very long skeletal arms and no lowerbody, instead they have their viscera trailing behind them while they craw on their arms leaving a horrid trail of blood wherever they go.
Redcap = The most cruel of all gnome-species, they dip their red caps in the blood of their victims to gain immortality, killing 1000 victims turns them into the even worse Dunters.
Sianach = A carnivorous stag monster that mostly serves Black Annis, they have all types of nasty runestones, skulls and other decorations hanging from their HUGE antlers.
Black Annis = The most horrid and well known of all Hags, their nails and teeth are like steel.
Tatty Bogles = Scarecrow monsters that can animate objects around them and like to scare the hell out of their victims before killing them.
Valravn = Not from Celtic mythology but close enough (Danish), these are horrible shapeshifting Raven horrors that eat your heart to become like you.
Wizard's Shackle = Leech-like monsters that are a bane to wizards and magic-users, absorbing magic to become fatter and bigger. After eating to much magic they release a dangerous magical nova attack.
Wild Hunt = Corrupted Fir Bolg giants that collect huge amount of cruel creatures around them to hunt for everything on their path.

I would totally hate this line-up for Necropolis.
CORE = Skeleton / ZOmbie / Ghost
ELITE = Death Knight / Lich / Vampire
CHAMPION = Bone Dragon / Wraith
B-O-R-I-N-G and overdone.
Show me something new for once humans, your kind repeats itself too much.
And don't use the Lamasu please, those are good-natured creatures of divine energy, not undead manticores.
Lamasu and Shedu are two of those creatures from mythology, that make my stomach turn, so boring.

Thanks dude.
The best thing is the Revenant's ability.
It's the retaliate king of all units, even with ranged attacks this creature magically retaliate.
So a pathetic human archer shoots at the Revenant, then a spiritiual figure (very scary looking a bit like a spirit version of the revenant) appears next to the human archer and gives it the retaliate attack.
Vengeance is everything for the revenant.
Too powerful? Think not.

Or the American-myth (Aztec, Native American, Middle American, Chilean, Brazilian, Mayan, Inuit, Fearsome Critters) approach.
CORE:
1)Djieien (Fearsome undead spiders or solifugids that hide their hearts in other creatures or in the ground, their poison creates chaos and confusion in the minds of their victims.) (walker, caster)
2)Baykok (Flying skeletons that don't have wings, their legs are corrupted into bird-like claws, they are the perfect hunters and archers and love to hunt bigger catch, so they probably have the ability to do more harm to Champion units.) (flyer, ranged)
3)Chupacabra (Diseased, vampire animalistic monsters that suck the blood from others and leave their disease behind.) (Walker)
ELITE:
1)Pukwudgie (Small troll-like monsters covered in the spines of porcupines, they can shapeshift and use voodoo and necromancy spells to turn their enemies into their undead slaves.) (Ranged, Caster)
2)Haakapainizi (Giant mantis horrors that collect their dead victims in strange baskets on their backs, probably to carry them to their undead masters so they have fresh corpses to turn into new minions.) (Walker)
3)Wendigo (Cannibalistic souls turn into these horrifying monsters with antlers on their head and giant teeth. They have so many bizarre and cool abilities that I come back on them later. (Flyer)
CHAMPION
1)Ahkiyyini (Giant skeleton monsters that play drums made from other creatures bones, the tunes and melodies these creatures create with those drums turn animals hostile, nature violent and natural disasters common, they also boost their undead allies with their dances and music.) (Caster)
2)Camazotz (Giant bat-monsters and lords of darkness, blood and the night, they are so powerful that they are sometimes believed to be Gods. They control huge swarms of bats and other creatuers of the night and control other vampire monsters.) (Flyer)
Some other possibilities.
Raven Mocker = Humanoid raven monsters that control flocks of ravens and feast on the weak and dying.
Invunche = Pathetic and tortured creatures that look like undead humanoids that crawl over the floor because their bodies are grotesqly disfigured.
Chon Chon = Flying heads with batwings for ears, they often fly in huge flocks and suck their victims dry of their blood.
Acheri = cute little indian girls that are actually undead demons that use their innocent look to spread horrible diseases.
Ijiraq = Masters of illusions and cold magic, they wear different skulls to suit their moods, mostly the skulls of fearsome monsters they killed.
Binaye-Ahani = More demon that undead, but these are limbless, murderous twin horrors that hover through the air, electrocuting everything they look into the eyes, as their gazes are deadly and shocking. They can also summon electricity between the two of them to shock creatures caught between the two of them. They often work together to bring prey down, if one of the two twins dies the other goes berserk with electric chaos.
Delgeth = Dangerous pronghorn demons with burning hooves that leave walls of fire wherever they sprint to. They are extremely hostile and fast.
Tsenahale = Large bird demons with the looks of beautiful colored but deadly vultures. They carry fire-bombs around that explode when they drop them onto their enemies. They also love to carry their prey into the air and drop them from greath hights.

Well its more like a English (Scottish/irish/manx/english combined) one, but I like to call that Celtic as it sounds more beautiful than a whole list of names.
And creatures from england, scotland and ireland are often very alike, all faeries and such creatures.

So in other words, British (Ireland is a part of the British Isles)?
Quote: And creatures from england, scotland and ireland are often very alike, all faeries and such creatures.
Though England has a bit more of a mix, thanks to the major Saxon (also applies to Lowland Scotland), Nordic and Norman cultural influxes.

And then you get compromisers, people who like to pay tribute to the old, without letting it starve out the new.

We should be realistic and keep in mind that Ubi will probably give us "Hersh" Necropolis once again. It would be nice to lead some Holy Empire Necromancers, but well developed Asha's necro could be ok.
I want to evoke my previous line-up proposal with small changes:
Heresh Necropolis.
Strengths:
High weekly growth of core units.
Effective incorporeal ability.
Debuffs.
Weakness:
No morale.
No luck.
Low base defense.
CORE
Skeleton Warrior -> Ebon Guard
Role: Tank
H4's skeleton abilities. Received ranged damage reduced by 20% (base) and 40% (upgrade).
Striga -> Banshee
Role: Damage Dealer
Known from DoC monstrous creature, similar to Ghoul. Extremely fast and rabid. Upgrade receives incorporeal ability.
Mummy -> Moonsilk Mummy
Role: Damage Dealer/Ranged
Slow walker, with ability to debuff (curse) enemies.
ELITE
Vampire -> Vampire Lord
Role: Damage Dealer
Say goodbye to huge blades and say welcome to monstrous fangs. Fast. Teleport abilities. No big changes, classic.
Lammasu -> Putrid Lammasu/Sphinx (Naming of the unit should be changed)
Role: Tank
Big flyer. Decreases morale of close enemies.
Spectre -> Lich
Role: Damage Dealer/Support
Attempt to make Liches cooler - wields scythe . Incorporeal ability, spellcaster. Summons skeleton guards (base), ebon guard (upgrade). Debuffs enemies.
CHAMPIONS
Bone Dragon -> Spectral Dragon
Role: Tank
Ranged damage decreased by 40%, upgrade receives incorporeal ability.
Cannot be killed by core units.
Mediocre stats, interesting special abilities.
Dread Knight -> Death Knight
Role: Damage Dealer
Headless .
Regeneration, charge and revenge (Deals extra damage to units that killed one of your stacks).
Mediocre stats, interesting special abilities.

My Necro theme..
I join LizardWarrior, and think Necropolis should this time again be a Gothic or even Victorian faction a-la H3 and H5- spires, mists, open graves, coffin-carrying wheelcarts passing under the city gates etc. However, due to their nature as a mystery (Void) cult, they should combine Lovecraftian, otherworldly features. Example: the Eternal Darkness game, or the Elder God from Legacy of Kain. This means eyes and tentacle motives, and the Elder One as Champion- and perhaps some madness-inducing spells/abilities. H7 Necromancers should be the eaters of souls, who use the Void's power to control minds, bodies and souls or destroy and rot them.
Spider and green features should be left in H6. I'd perhaps put Giant Spiders as neutrals, and Fate Spinners as campaign-specific units (like Griffins).

If done right, a Lovercraftian Necropolis would work very well, especially with he void

In advance I have to say I do not have the intention to insult or offend anyone.
I certainly am on the "Lovecraftian" side on this matter!
We -Necro faction lovers- need a twist towards the seer terror, the untold abomination, the chilling darkness.
Not another remake of the funny looking skels from the 60's movie of Jason and the Argonauts

Heroes shouldn't base its factions on other franchises... We had it in H5 and sincerely, I won't miss it.
"Lovercraftian" influence - if its fits anything in Ashan it's Inferno, not Necropolis. Tentacles in spider's cult town? Honestly, I don't see it.

My bad, still, void themed would make Necropolis another violet/purple faction . Nether/Void is a perfect material for "stand-alone" faction. Maybe we will see it one day, when Ubi change its mind about "Big 9".
