They were Undead Driders, adapted to fit into Ashan Necropolis. They weren't that inspired, I think.

Yeah, we have units like them in many games, Age of Wonders 1 and 2, Diablo 3 etc.
But it was still original in terms of Heroes franchise, a unit that change forms in battle and have different abilities in each form.
I definitely like them better than Bone Dragons, as I find Bone Dragons dull but that might be because they just aren't done right. None of the Bone Dragons so far had cool abilities or look, or both. In H5 I wasn't even counting them as Tier 7 units, more like overpriced Tier 6...
So, if they do make a comeback, I sure hope they won't be anything like in H2/3/4/5, not design-wise nor strength-wise.

That's the big problem of Bone Dragons, they are usually just an undead Dragon without abilities like, really?
Ghost/Spectral dragons were at least midly interesting, but there's the problem: a Champion should be, at worst, midly interesting as the unupgraded creature, with the upgraded being a kickass. Bone/Ghost dragons aren't like that :[

Right, and HV Ghost Dragon casting Sorrow (-2 Morale & Luck) was also fun (since it worked nicely in combination with Banshees).
But Bone Dragons are plain, dull, boring. If they fix that then I'd welcome them as one of Necro champions in H7

Honestly, there's literally 0 reason to bring Bone Dragons back. There are SO many different undead creatures out there that could make better champions such as the nuckelavee, the revenant and the wraith. Especially after H6 introduced the Lammassi and Namtarus to the Ashan canon.

Death Knights suck, like everything from D&D.
Btw, Dullahan = Headless Horseman, for people that have been living under a rock.
No thanks. Even zombie sound more interesting than a human without a head.
I want to have this 4 units in any necro heroes game:
-skeleton (like the heroes 6 non upgraded units a lot)
-vampire (heroes 3 looked the best for me)
-lich (heroes 3 also looked the best for me)
-bone dragon (heroes 2 looked the best for me)

Ugh!!! Begone cool mythology creature hater! I dislike people who like boring skeletons and overused vampires over jewels.

I dont care is a monster a mythology creature or D&D or from some new fiction that ubi made, because all of them are fiction. I care how the monster looks and feels. A human without a head is just boring as snow.
Its ok that you like it, nothing wrong with that, but saying we want it, is not correct because its more like you want it .

So I guess nobody wants the good old Death/Dread Knights? Sure they're cliche, but I kinda miss deadly strike.
Feels somehow wrong to have them as neutral units.

Hm does seems that way. Well, I would personally prefer them over Wraiths and whatever those wannabe manticores were called in 6.
It's quite hard to come up with something original when it comes to undead.

This is normally the case in undead factions that's the reason why I think design wise they have to look REALLY good to stand out. Still the fate spinner from h6 looks awesome I hope it is returning since its unique and its swapping form mechanics was really good in my opinion.
It would be boring if we just got a ghost/bone dragon.

Right. In H3 most unupgraded lvl 7 creatures had something interesting, except for the bone dragon (and Giant maybe, but at least they had a cheap building)
Also don't forget creature stats also come into play. A unit may lack abilities, but if it has good stats it can still feel useful. Bone dragons, on the other hand...

That is true, but at least they didn't look so pathetic. If I was looking at the Heroes 5 for the first time, I would be scared of Wights/Wraiths a lot more than of those big piles of bones.
Even upgraded, when we get to the abilities:
Archangel - Resurrection
Titan - Shooter and can cast lighting
Archdevil - Resurrects Pit Lords from corpses of dead Demons
Spectral Dragon - reduces moral by 1 and casts weakness on attack, YEY...
And that is not even mentioning that stat line, where a lot of the Tier 6 units in the game could go easily 1 on 1 vs. Bone/Spectral Dragons. :/

Not in H6, where Fate Spinners were actually terrifying Champions and we don't have Tier 6 units anymore, so tradition has changed and should stay that way.

Aside Fateweaver, Necropolis had horrible creatures in Homm6. I'm especially tired of Spirits, or any other similar female ghosts. Like Djinns, those water elements or whatever from Sanctuary and so on. They just feel like same unit but with different skin. It became mandatory to have a " hot " female unit.
