Inferno was one building, Necropolis consisted of a bunch of spikes, Sylvan was just a big tree and Dungeon & Fortress were holes.
Indeed. Individually, all of the buildings (if somewhat mis-labeled) are competent enough, same with H4.
I must disagree. Inferno may have an excuse 'cos the whole nation is one massive army (tbh, I don't remember it very well), for Necro those "spiky" towers were playing the role of civilian buildings, others really had houses (around tree, on the caves, in the hole) etc.
What I was saying is that H5's townsreens may not be the best overall, but they really were screens of a town. In that regard they certainly win the 1 place. Imho ofc.

I never said people were crying about 3D mate, dont make false accusations, I said the artwork could use some improvements, not sure why you are saying it again?? And what do civilian buildings have to do with functionality, thats just bonkers mate. Not hearing any real arguments :{
Forgive me there, the way you whrote the statement made me thought that you said about "crying for 3Dtowns" as well.
Erm, but here we go. I never said anything about actual artworks. By artworks I mean how the buildings are drawn. We're mostly critizing the placing they chose. Not even a word was said about, let's say, style they chose for Academy.
It's the GUI that needs to be functional, not the townscreens And yeah, my sole, but steel argument: T O W N screens. Not fortscreens, not factoriascreens. Townscreens. They named it so, and we rightfully expected depictions of TOWNS. Towns need civilian buildings, otherwise ot's not a town. The only faction that has some (not ideal) lore excuse - Inferno.

Holy snow the stairs are too big, what are we going to do now? We are doomed, doomed I tell you. If you are going to nit pick everything, why even bother with the game?

People seem to forget that they have a budget they are working by, be flexible dont nitpick everything. They would love to implement all of our ideas, some more than others, but with budget restrictions they are doing their best.

I dunno why you feel you have to act like a drama queen.
I merely contested your argument.

This guy knows how to use the foreground and the background a lot more properly than the official townscreens of H7 we've seen so far.

Inspired and inventive are the words I thought about when seeing this.
I don't know if these are really the kind of town screens I'd like for HoMM7 but this is obvious:

What are you talking about? These screens are done by amateur and it shows. That middle one looks like unfinished child drawing. Size, perspective, coloring is off. Its on level with HVI town screens but nowhere near any non indie game.

I too feel that these various townscreens are not very impressive. The middle one is particularly underwhelming.
Particularly terrible is that castle in the lake. Seriously, compare that with the unicorn ranch right beside it. Either those unicorns are twice the size of Titans or that castle is populated entirely by Lego figurines!

well, the logic is simple :
if it is made by an indie company, then it is awesome
if it is made by ubisoft, then it sucks

Then it explains why it looks so primitive as it does. Still doesn't change my oppinion of the overall quality of the work.

Really? Sorry, but these screns have WAY more perspective and scaling issues than the UbiSoft screens. Sorry to be the party-pooper here, but if UbiSoft had come up with these screens, people would have been outraged.

About the town screens, I do find them to look "better" than Ubisoft's attempt, if only because I find them more interesting.
Palm Kingdoms though. The name makes it sound like a phone game,
but since this is a former NWC employee I guess it's not as - or equally - dubious as Ubi's project.

In these game, the towns we can see all building big and well placed, like all others old Heroes except 5,6, but in Heroes 5 alpha the Haven town was awesome.
