It seems Lawmaker wants the wall to create a giant dome covering the entire city. At least that is the only way it would make sense

Which building are you referring to?
In any case, I thought the town portal was the more yellowish structure on the "middle" tier of the pyramid. That's what I'm assuming it is, at any rate.
I do hope they do a building guide for Necropolis soon, like how they did with the other towns. Out of all the towns thus far, this is the one I have the fewest guesses about.

Okay, now that I had some time to cool off, I can maybe judge it less biased :x
- H6 neon green all over...again. The line-up seems to have shifted away from it, but the Townscreen doesn't?
- The idea of the Necropolis city being a giant Spider isn't bad per se, but in this example the legs take just too much space of the screen. The buildings on top of the legs are just idiotic
- The walls are impractical...
Really, if they're going to represent the walls covering just the entrance of the city and no the rest, I'd rather go back to H2/H3 style. Show the city from the inside, making use of the whole screen and represent the walls as the castle somewhere inside of it.
The only reason I see to enter townscreens in H7 (apart from building/recruiting) is Townscreen Themes, just because they're awesome. The TS itself? Not really

I must say that I'm disappointed with all the town screens released so far. The approach taken so far with Heroes 7 town screens is reminiscent of the budget approach taken in Heroes 4. The generic town interfaces of Heroes 4 were widely criticized. Heroes 5 reinvented town screens in 3D, while Heroes 6 went with more inspired and varied 2D designs that seemed more like a natural progression from Heroes 1, 2 and 3.
I would highly suggest that H7 developers do not repeat the mistake made in Heroes 4 with generic template town designs, and instead follow the varied artistic 2D path of Heroes 1, 2, 3 and 6.

This seems to be the suitable place to shout: ENOUGH WITH THE SPIDERS!!!!!
They are a unit now. And they are everywhere in the townscreen. Everywhere in everything about this faction. This really started to make me hate the faction.

I can't even look at anything else while wondering who Might have possibly even thought that this is in the least bit acceptable.. Just put it on the big empty space to the left of the massive spider leg. Then zoom in and now one can start looking at the rest. Oh and that wall thingie is ridiculous, looks like something i made the first time playing age of empire with six years

I'm not going to call them TS anymore. Instead, I'll refer to them as MOS (Military Outpost Screen), because that's what they are.

Good one. Seeing how everything's the same they can also put H6 Necro theme and then everything will be carnivalesque.

Having seen the Necropolis townscreen, two thoughts arise concerning the future.
1) If Necropolis is night, Sylvan is night, and Dungeon is dark underground, it seems that we'll have an even division of "daytime/light" and "night/dark" towns. Yeah, maybe they'll mix of Stronghold so that it takes place at morning/evening with a more golden sky, but combined with the general shape of the townscreens thus far... points for consistency?
2) While I've been pretty positive about the townscreens thus far (yeah, unpopular opinion - I DON'T CARE), I am rather concerned how the general format of "bridge leading to an isolated platform with an upward incline leading to the main building" will actually look with the stalactite design voted on by the community. Maybe the artistic choices voted for will force them to alter the layout for the Sylvan/Dungeon towns, but as it stands, I really don't know what to expect for Dungeon in particular.

* I am not bothered by the perspective, unlike many.
* I do not share the wide-spread allergy to colours.
* I am not blinded by nostalgia, nor feel compelled to hate Ubisoft simply for producing their own material instead of parroting NWC.
* I do not get riled up by gigantic statues in the background.
* Personal aesthetic preferences.
- Haven: second favourite version after H5
- Academy: roughly equivalent in preference to H5
- Necropolis: second favourite version after H3
* Because I am and I don't have to justify it.

Just to be clear, no one criticizes Ubisoft for coming up with their own material, neither awaits them to parrot anything.
Is the stuff they come up with which isn't well-received, for what it is.
And you didn't reply to me. You don't need to justify your taste, but I want to understand. Many people brought up very valid and objective points about townscreens in this thread.
