- So I heard. Good job.- Drago replied. He was smoking his pipe and conversing with Halfman and playing a game of Fox and Geese with the wizard, when John tossed the oncounsious bandit on the ground before him.
- Take as many people as you need to haul the loot back to the camp.- Drago said to John.- And I know it would be a hopeless task, but try to make sure that Magnus doesn't drink all the booze if there's any in there. We'll see what we can get out of this buffoon in the meantime.

"I make no promises I cannot keep, Dragomir." John bowed his head slightly.
John decided to take with him 10 men and 2 mules, figuring it's better to be over-prepared than make a second trip. This way, even if by chance there were more goods than they can carry, they would have enough manpower to bring back all that's important. There was another reason for bringing so many of the company. Many of them were chosen for knowledge in different fields to appraise the loot on the spot.
Among others John asked for the assistance of Isabella for medical supplies and poisons and of Francis for general knowledge of nobility and trading.

"Well, I could go with you my noble friend, and that's my intention. Lead the way John!" said Francis jollier than usual, and truly, he needed something to relax over the past incidents in battle...
But he knew he was expected by Allikha on his return...

"Of course John," Isabella said answering John. Her reading had been interrupted the third time that day, but she could never really get angry at the half-giant for anything.

"Thank you both. I believe your presence will be most useful."
John led the team he had assembled through the forest until the reached the cave. When they reached the entrance John motioned everyone to stop, readied his club just in case and called into the den.
"Magnus, are you still there? And is there any drink left? I only ask because Dragomir said to bring at least some of it back."

A loud, echoing belch erupted from the smuggler den, as Magnus emerged. He was holding a half empty bottle of "Giselle".
- Aye. There be plenty more where that came from! loads of this fine stuff 'ere. there also be chests of gold, a chest full of dwarven steel, also emerdinan carpets, salted bacon, dwarven stouts all sort of good stuff! I saw the lass has found a suitable weapons and armor supply as well. there also be grain and other foodstuff, and gods know what else in 'ere as well.- Magnus said and finished the bottle.
- Let's haul the stuff back to camp- He said, disappearing into the den again.

-Well, well, he seems to have found a treasure- Francis smirked after witnessing Magnus's exchange with John, -Now, considering that it would be best to get this over with quickly I'll be checking the chests over there...- he then went on his way to see if there was anything particularly interesting in the den...
He started searching inside the barrels and the crates hoping to find something hidden inside of them with no particular luck, he could find only some coins stashed away under some pork and some rings iof no value inside an almost empty sack of cabbages, the real discovery happened to be in a chest, containing several items of jewelry.
"Well I'll be damned, there are some forgeries there and there, some of these were made of glass... go figure, this one is made of obsidian... aha, my little cousin could make a better pendant with obsidian, there is also a bracelet made out of stone painted in green, it would be believable if it wasn't scratched, it seems that they were trying to imitate some real gemstones... Wait a minute, this stands out, it doesn't appear to be fake, this seems genuine, and this other too... Now I understand...".
Francis found a pendant with a purple gem, which he thought was an amethyst and a bracelet made completely out of jade with some gems embedded in it, discoveries that could have resulted in a good profit for the company, if they were confirmed to be genuine...
Other than that there were some golden rings, presumably stolen, a few metal rings painted in gold, which would have probably took part in that experiment, and some generic cheap jewelry that could be sold for some money...

It didn't took long to get all the things of value out of the den. the heavier gold and metal filled chests were strapped onto the backs of the mules, along with the armor and weapons found within the cache. the containers that didn't fit on the animals were carried by the people.
Soon enough, the goods were delivered to the camp.
On the same time, Dragomir interrogated the only survivor from the den. the captive was held tied upside down. A red hot poker was in Drago's hands.
- Now... I'll ask you again, one last time.- He looked at the prisoner. you can see fury in Drago's remaining eye.- who put you up to attack the trade caravans?- The captive said that their operation was not only smuggling alcohol, but also to attack potential trade caravans. Drago now wanted to find out who is the true leader of the organisation. He did not intent on taking it down with the company, but it would be a valuable information for the king. and the regular forces would have a chance to swing their blades.
- We got orders from a man by the name of Rijeneux!- The captive uttered.- He is the one who gave out orders to Wezzu.- His eyes teared.- I don't know much else... really!- The captive wept.
Knowing he won't get any more info, Dragomir slashed the captive's throat.
After cleaning his blade, he went on to inspect what has been found at the smuggler den.
The loot was indeed impressive. He wasn't pleased with the few forgeries, but given the sharp tongue of Francis, he hoped to sell them to a merchant who doesn't have a sharp eye for such things.
Dragomir spent some time directing the company on where to store the loot. as evening dawned near, he ordered to tap the dwarven stout keg, so the company can have a drink with their dinner, a fowl stew, which was bubbling away on one of the campfires.
As everyone were eating, Dragomir addressed the company:
- My friends. there is one more thing the king gave us to aid in our march through Merinanth, towards the North.
He took out the writ and read it aloud.
Quote: By the order of his grace, King Domerth, third of his name called the Just, the rightful monarch of Merinanth,
I instruct that the Last Free Company, going by the name of The Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner, can dispose of any one who in any way try to halt, rob, inprison or otherwise hinder their assignment to march to the Uncharted North and Bring back the sacred artifact, the Goblet of Manara.
The company started murmuring amongst eachother. Dragomir got their attention again.
- This document does not approve our marauding. The sack of Anbuktu was a long time ago, and it was done only when the employer refused to pay for the company's services. Anyone who will commit themselves to the crime, will be punished severely.- He said with a serious tone in his voice. Each member seemed to agree with the decision.
- Enjoy your meal, and please, do not drink to much stout. We leave Shrouded Hills in the early morning.

-Well well, so it seems we were "justified" in killing those bandits after all- Francis thought, -I was fearing we were starting to become marauders ourselves... Oh well, since I have some free time... I don't have any intention of practicing, doing exercise with a "full" belly isn't that helpful, I think i'll be sitting in that corner, and finally do what I was waiting to do all day...-
Francis took a seat on a treestump nearby the fire to have some light and took an old book that he had previously taken in his possession.
-Aha, I still can't believe Magnus gave it to me- thought Francis, smiling like a child receiving a sweetroll -This is a great moment, let's see the cover: De Virtutibus Puellarum, this seems like it will be a great read".
And indeed he wasn't disappointed, the book was a collection of poetry of the period before the Seasons of Turmoil, written by masters of the likes of Guillame Alabrč, Jacques de Mar and Rodrigo Tristecor, the poets that made Merinanth a center of culture and famous for its school of writers.
One thing to note was that some poets decided to use pseudonyms instead of their name, and usually they were related to their work. For example, Rodrigo Tristecor usually wrote about a sad love that brought suffering to the man, as the lady wouldn't allow him to get closer, or Jacques de Mar and his sonnets of the sailor, that had to stay away from his wife during his long trips by sea.
It was a great read, as it didn't contain just some poetry, but also studies on grammar and phonetics, all having a critic giving an explanation of the various rethorical forms.
Francis was, again, surprised that it was found in a smuggler's den, because, even if it was a book written by critics explaining the various compositions it was still a book for those who were interested in such things, like Francis.
He was halfway through the book when somebody shook him, complaining about the fact that he was still awake, and so Francis had to stash his book and go to sleep, waiting for the dawn of the new day, and a new adventure...

Isabella was disappointed that she did not find that much of medical use in the stash; though she had found some weak poisons she figured could be useful later. After she finished her dinner she read for a short while, before going to sleep hoping to be well rested tomorrow.

Fowl stew. quickly getting to the front of the line and finishing it as quickly as possible. She was in line for a second portion (somehow avoiding recognition) when Dragomir read out some thing. something about not going to far. She didn't pay too much attention though she got the most of it.
Finishing up she took up and wrote down the happenings of the day in her journal before laying down in one of the wagons to go to sleep early.

as the new day had dawned, and after a quick breakfast the camp had been disassembled, and wagons of the Brotherhood were moving on the road northwards. Shrouded Hills was on the edge of the duchy of Bright Stone. The company's march would now be through the Duchy of Trakonia, ruled over by House Raddwil. these lords were fiercely loyal to the throne and the royal house, and Dragomir was sure they would not try to pull any trick on them. In fact, he had a feeling that the old lord Raddwil will help them in any way he could. One of his younger sons was a member of the Free company. nicknamed "The Thunder", Kristoph Raddwil, was a man of fierce character. He lead the light cavalry of the Brotherhood during the Mikayan uprising, commiting many successful raids on the rebel's supply lines. his lightning quick attacks were almost impossible to repel, and his hussars showed no mercy to the enemy. But eventually, he fell in combat, not long before the end of the rebellion, after being ambushed with this troops. He was praised for his bravery, and songs were made about him.
His father accepted his death without much grief, praising his sons valor and effort to stop the uprising. It seemed that duty to the throne was the top priority for the House Raddwil.
As such, the Free Company were welcomed guests within Trakonia.
Soon enough, the company left the Halfling populated Duchy of Bright Stone, and entered Trakonia. IT greeted them with lush fields of wheat, and forests in the distance. The path split away, leading to small villages. Dragomir hoped to reach the first bigger town, Navgrod before sundown. The men seemed to be in good spirits.
Most of them sung various songs or chatted between themselves along the way.

After eating his dinner, John made another round of inspecting the loot. Obviously, the bandits used a lot of rope to secure and haul their cargo, so John picked some of the thickest ones he could find to replenish his own stocks. A quick survey of the weapons revealed, as usual, that there was nothing big enough for him to use. He was never interested in jewelry and there were no clothes that would fit him, but he did take some material to patch up his own garments.
He wanted to have a quiet word with Dragomir, but by the time he was finished with the loot it was already late and the whole camp was either asleep or getting ready to. John packed up his own belongings and decided to wait until the morning.
In the morning the company finished packing and continued their march. John found Dragomir and walked beside him.
"You sounded worried when you read the writ. You really think it will cause trouble along the way?"

(( Sorry for not replying yesterday. the power of Riga's Balsams was stronger
Gen-Dude, could you edit your post and make it that the conversation between John and Drago happens during the march? as I already switched it to the next day. sorry 'bout the troubles))
Dragomir was in deep thought when John approached him.
- I really hope to avoid it- He answered.- The Wolf was very strict regarding rapes and marauding, as you can surely remember. I hope to continue this tradition. what some forget, that we're not a bunch of drunk outlaw dirtbags who can barely hold a sword. We have a history. A long and rich history, never stained by crimes of the few. I intend to keep it that way.
The Wolf was the former captain of the Company. He succumbed to his wounds after defeating lord Pozcej, the rebellous duke of Mikaya. the foul lord's blade was laced with a poison which prevented blood coagulation, which in the long term of events and lack of proper antidotes, Isabella's and Dragomir's attempts to save the captain's life has failed.

"I Never thought I would say anything positive about our low numbers, but at least they're easier to control should things go bad." John sighed, "this whole quest gives me a bad feeling. I hope we'll get it over with soon. Although... if your fears are correct, there might be those among us who would prefer to prolong our journey so that the writ stays in power for as long as possible."

- Yes, that would be one possibility- Replied Dragomir.- but I think it won't come to that. The march to the north will be long, aye. I like to think we'll well supplied. besides, many opportunities will arise to earn honest coin along the way, without the need to rob and terrorize the smallfolk.
Dragomir paused to light up his pipe. this lighter used a flint striker to ignite a wick which was drowned in kerosene. It was a more widespread gnomish invention, without the risk of blowing up in your face.
He inhaled the smoke. The tobacco was grown in several large Neburan islands, and was one of their main exports to the rest of the kingdoms.
- Hmm. I remembered. Magnus wanted to see you for something. He mentioned armor I believe.- He said to John.

The march progressed steadily, Francis advancing in front of two wagons, and singing a faint tune of love...
He was quite merry during the march, it was a nice day and lately, at the exception of some mishaps, almost everything went positively; also, Francis loved staying on horseback, sure, after some time your legs hurt, but the feeling of the horse's walk was always quite pleasurable, it also reminded him of the time he used to joust in his father's lands...
At some point Francis started singing a tune from his youth, making him wonder what happened to his family, and what of Jeyne, his fiancee, not that he missed her so much though...
He decided to get in front of the caravan, he had to ask Dragomir some details regarding their next stop, as the knight was itching to see what he could do with the recent acquisitions...

"Armor? That's odd... Magnus knows I've gone through all my battles with scarcely more than my chainmail. But if Magnus of the Iron Clan wants to tell me something about armor, I would be a fool not to listen, right?" John says the last part with a faint smile.
Then he moved to another wagon and found Magnus.
"Hello, Magnus. Dragomir said you were looking for me. What was about?"

Elena liked marching. Well, she liked walking as it helped her think and since marching was mostly just walking she naturally enjoyed that too. As long as there were the occasional rest of course. She observed the road moving forward thinking of anything coming to her mind. Mostly about food until she started hearing some singing a bit ahead. Noticing Francis something struck her about that plate mail of his and how light and manageable it seemed. Just as he started moving a bit faster she called out to him "Hey Francis, need to ask you something!"
