impression 2nd beta
first impressions beta
Started a single player mission on the 2 player map on normal difficulty. max settings. Played for 2 hours.
What i liked:
- The AI. I steamwalled over my opponent. But i did play on normal and i did know the map from earlyer let`s plays. But that aside the AI did avoid me when it was overpowered. It plundered my resources and surprised me to attack my main town when my hero was exploring somewhere else. From what we have seen with the first beta. I`m impressed as it is somewhat intelligent instead of braindeath. Keep in might that i played on normal and there also are 2 more levels (hard, expert) And this is just a beta.
- advanced settings before you start the game to change resources/monster quantity.
- no obvious bugs/crashes to desktop or lag. Game played smooth and was enjoying to play. I would love to get back into the game and start a 4 or 8 player map. Or play online.
- sounds and animations are great. So are the graphics even do they are not sharp enough for my taste.
- The UI has improved. It is easyer to see now what resources you get each day. But it is not perfect when you look for information on abilities for units.
- splitting units is really easy to do. So are some other things that went intuitively. Like moving your units around the battlefield or setting up.
What i disliked:
- The graphics were great but not really sharp. I would have liked if i could see more on both the campaign map and battles without zooming in. It did not destract me to much as i was pleased enough what i saw.
- The game is kind of dull when it comes down to sound. Without a story and an opponent having character. I did not get drawn into the game as it should. I would have liked to get mocked or treatened. Dont get me wrong. The sounds that are in the game are quite good. But i would have loved the game to have more character without a written story.
- 4 diffictulty levels is not enough but there are more options with advanced settings.
- bugs i encountered: camera close up behind a fire wall obscured my view.
- I did not like flanking. I think this game needs to have retaliation when units dance around each other to flank.
What i did not understand
I am well aware with the unit abilities. But for new players it might be quite annoying to not know what the abilities are for each unit. It is shown in battles but not in town screan. You can get more information with right click in town but not abilites. Maybe i did not press the right button.
Would i like to play again
Hell yeah. I`m impressed what i`ve seen so far. Looking forward to another week of beta and the release on sep 29th.

Yea, I need a stronger video card. The game is slow even with every possible Video setting off or set to low.
And somehow, all the sounds don't work anymore.
Bah, this is really annoying. I'm already tired of this Beta .

OMG, you are tired ?! What will everybody else feel like ?
Yeah it is kinda slow, I'm using similar settings to the first beta and it seems it's slower than before but I'm not encountering as many bugs, so far only units do not go where I want them to go, just like in beta11
also waiting during opponents round is longer than beta 1

Now that you're here, I have another question.
Downloading the Beta put files on the C-drive (under My Games) and on the D-drive. There, it created the folder "Heroes VII BETA". This beta is now listed as Installed in Uplay, but if I receive the full game, can I just install it or do I have to remove all these files (on C and D) first?
Minastir said: OMG, you are tired ?! What will everybody else feel like ?
If it would run as smooth as, say, H5 or 6, I would still be playing . But the slowness is just gamebreaking, I don't even enjoy playing it now...that and the fact that the sounds don't work.

In "A word from the team" article they mentioned that AI turns will be slower than in first beta.

Yeah it is slow and it's weird because I have played HVI on the best graphic settings and it still was very smooth and really enjoyable, HVII is not That much better in terms of graphics to be as slow as it is compared to HVI, I'm still playing but it's just because I would like to play new factions at least once
also the sound doesn't work at all for you ?

Unfortunately the video-card is under the minimum setting for certain characteristics This is a bit sad since this is a quite recent one but not really a gaming one I'm afraid

It seems that your game is installed that way:
- C: seems to be your "my documents" partition/hard-drive --> here you will have you game settings and saves
- D: is where you decided to install the game
I would recommend in all cases to delete everything before the release of the game so you reduce corruption risks (and in all cases you will have to re-download the game completely)

That's odd, because during the first Beta, the sounds were working (although I had the idea that some were missing). And when I started the second Beta, the sounds worked at first...but then broke and never returned .

Correct, files for Heroes V and VI are also on the C drive (profile data and all that), and D contains the main part of it all.
Okay, delete everything (and run a registry cleanup afterwards). I don't get the last bit: "and in all cases you will have to re-download the game completely". If everything is gone, and I install the full game (which is a physical copy), it will simply put everything 'back' where it belongs, right? No need to 'download' anything...
Well, it seems like I will have to put H7 on hold until I get a better machine to run it. Sadly but true...

I agree. The magic early game is very weak. Direct damage spells dont do that much. I did have no problems with mana shortages.

The new thing, the arcane knowledge, could someone tell if I understand it correctly ?
It means that I could learn spells of rank 3 even without having the master in this type of magic school ? because to learn rank 3 type of spell you need arcane knowledge=5 , so you need for instance an expert in earth magic and expert in water magic, so you have arcane knowledge=6 and you can learn rank 3 spells of water and earth magic ?
or you need arcane knowledge points in specific magic school to learn those spells ? someone ?

Sigh.
1. Have to launch the game twice for it to work (first time it crashes).
2. Can't select neither Sylvan or Dungeon as starting faction.
