Let’s not get too carried away with this. Yes, confidence and intelligence matters a lot but they dont mean being very ugly is not a serious disadvantage. Stephen Hawking also got a hottie but I wouldnt say being paralyzed is “all in your head” just because of that.

There is a difference between "I am ugly so I give up" (usually followed by "give me free stuff, otherwise I can't own any") then "I am ugly but I don't care because succeeding in life is not about look, but about actions". Sure, disadvantages may be everywhere, they are part of life.
Here lays the core difference between left and right. Being responsible of considering the others as responsible of your fails or unlucky stars constellation.

We'd have to discuss what "succeeding in life" means first, to many it would be a well-paid job in management in a big corporation for instance - to me it would be not having to work at all while maintaining a good quality of life without socialism and such (i.e. getting enough money to live off passive income = that would be a huge success in life, yesss).

Lol, Sal, I see you havent missed the opportunity to insert Fox News in the middle but unless there is some kind of “sexual wellfare” that I’m unaware of, politics doesnt have much to do with this. Here’s the thing, people who say “it’s all about confidence” are usually not so bad looking, just like people wno say money doesnt bring happiness are usually rich. A man’s pyhsical appearance is not as important as a woman’s, that part is true, we seem to focus on beauty much more compared to women. But especially in these times, it is not something that’s “all in your head” either. I’ve been in both groups, in my twenties, girls liked the way I look and I was considered good-looking by most of them, then, in my thirties I got quite fat for a while. I wasnt less confidant, I wasnt less smart, I wasnt even very ugly but a lot has changed and some of them became unapproachable. If I was a fat billionaire, things could have stayed the same but I dont think that’s the case here. So, sure, telling him not to give up is nice but saying how ugliness is all in the head kind of turns the advice into “bs from people who havent been through what they are talking about.”

The thing is, I understand what every disadvantage means, we have tons of literature for that, to explain even better than your next door whiner, however the thing is: complaining does not help, period.
You are fat, eat less and train. You are ugly, pay attention to your body and dress elegant. No advice when being stupid, thou
Saying the nature punished you may make you feel better, but it won't solve any of your struggles. It will only make close people walk away, instead of being attracted by you. Confidence is a magnet.

But he wasnt complaining, was he. He was actually being sarcastic about his own ugliness, one can even say that’s pretty confident.

Well, maybe you didn't read his posts, he usually complains about his life being a mess, no job, no money, still living with parents, now ugly. I didn't comment his particular comment, but in the context. He goes through a lack of confidence, that's the core of his problem, in my opinion.

i'll reply to some of these comments in about 2 weeks (if I remember, that is, or sooner if I happen to get fired by then) because right now I'm on a ship and have limited access to internet. Some of the comments are worth answering to. Also, I wasn't being serious about my ugliness, Salamandre. I'm not Brad Pitt, but I'm Ok looking... I think... Anyway, gonna reply when I get on land... if I don't forget and if this thread will still exist by then
