Sadly, I failed to do it.
Could you please post here DETAILED, step by step, moron-friendly instructions explaining what should be done?
For example, what do I do with the ZV172N.bmp file?
I know NOTHING about these things.
Thanks,
Stupid Vlaad

OK,
1) Place the animation (ZM172N.def)and import program (H3sprite.exe) into your Heroes3 DATA folder.
2)Make a backup copy of H3sprite.lod This is the main datafile, we want a backup in case something goes wrong.
3) Open a MS-Dos command prompt. There should be a shortcut to it somewhere, if you can't find it just double-click COMMAND.COM in your Windows folder.
4) Change to your Heroes/Data directory (folder) in DOS. To do this type the following, using your path to the DATA directory.
cd c:\games\heroes~1\data
*NOTE* DOS can only recoginize file names of 8 characters or less. To access a longer filename (i.e. Program Files) type the first 6 characters followed by a tilda (~) and a number indicating which file you're refering to if there is more than one with the same six first letters (this is usually 1). In the above example, my Heroes folder is named "Heroes III" so I had to write it as "heroes~1" in the path. You can also just change the names so that they are 8 characters or less long.
5)Import the file by typing the following:
H3sprite.exe @ZM172N.def
6) Enjoy!

Well this isn't a new creature, just a new animation. It replaces the old Nightmare battle graphics.
If you feel like creating your own monsters, go right ahead. If and when you're finished with the various bmp's, myself or someone else from the team can help you to get it packed into def format.

Yes, this would a useful thing to know, more fans can then send ideas to the WoG team and get it checked. If its good, new creature here we come Also if this info was also given, we will soon see a flood of new monsters by the time 3.59 is out (yes, I do mean 3.59)

The best bet would be to look at the originals to see just what your work should look like. Use a utility like ResEdit to extract some Defs and DefView to open it and save the frames as bmp's. The frames are ordered in the following lists.
0-Movement
1-Fidgit
2-Stand Still
3-Take Hit
4-Defend
5-Death
6-Death 2 (only used by Beholders)
7-Turn left to front
8-Turn right to front
9-Turn left to back
10-Turn right to back
11-Attack up
12-Attack side
13-Attack down
14-Shoot up
15-Shoot side
16-Shoot down
17-Magic or Dragonbreath up
18-Magic or Dragonbreath side
19-Magic or Dragonbreath down
20-Start of movement
21-End of movement

Each one of us should concentrate on making 1 creature.
That way,when Heroes 5 come out,it's.. what?! 1000 creatures?!
Well, that would be fantastic. We would have dogs and cats running all over the place.Perhapes even kitten-angels,can resurrect kittens!

Huh?
In the DefMaker program's "Creature Wizard", it goes through all of the possible action types that a creature may have. To help identify which is which, there is a small descriptive comment for each stage. Stage 5 is the Death animation, stage 6 is an alternate Death animation (or so says the hint text) that alledgedly is only used by Beholders. I've never actually looked into this so I'm taking the creator's word on it.

Can we put any pre-done sprites into the game this way? It would be more simple for objects, right? If it's possible, where can I find the list of objects? In other words, why does ZM172N stand for Nightmare?

If you correctly compile a new Def you can replace an existing one. To add a new creature requires the game code to be altered to recognize it, not something most of us can do.
To see what's in the game you can use ResEdit with it's Quickview tool to explore the Lod files.
As for the filename, it's just a naming convention that Slava came up with. Most all of WoG addions start with a Z, this puts them at the end of the filelist for easy reference. I believe M stands for monster and 172 is it's creature number. I couldn't tell you what the N stands for, Nightmare maybe?
