The talk was about who was stronger, not who is most important. As for manties give army speed, genies to doand minos cant fight shooters either. But all that can be changed by a simple spell. And fighting shooters wan't make much diff.if there were say 5 stacks of arhers,u would lose more mantis then nagas.(ex 50x5 marksmen (40 nagas/manties,14 nagas die,17 manies die, same tactics)and hey manties can't rich them either.

I have not seen this thread in ages.
I am not an expert in Doungeon.
Never then less I can play all towns pretty well.
This one & Inferno probally being the toughest.
If you can get the Minatour Hero guy. You are in for a treat because you can beat almost any 1-4 lv creatures with just Minatours alone.
I remember going through throng of every kind of archers just about. in week 2.
Even Lots of Mages.
You just have to be strategic

Dungeon is a very powerful town.
I fought with 16 blackies and about 40 minos and 60 scorps, etc. against 36 pheonixes and similar conflux army, and I won without losing more than 5 minos. The blacks died and I lost most of the scorps, but, there you are. My minotaurs were doing all the dirty work and they just OWNED.
Minos rule. Period.
Quote: You buy 2 titans and 4 naga queens and usually you say: 'Um, where's my gold?'
too true lol thats exactly what I think
Quote: I remember going through throng of every kind of archers just about. in week 2.

Lol thats EXACTLY my situation, I'm playing dungeon, its week 2 and there are Lots of Mages in front of a mine.
I killed them easily, but then again the current topic is Scorpicores vs. Nagas and in Week 2 all I had was Medusas, Evil Eyes, Harpy Hags and trogs

azure dragons DO have some immunities, nasty immunities, i'd say. try playng the DRAGON SLAYER campaing of Armageddon's Blade for fun and for enlightenment
and, archangels are the most powerful level 7 creatures because of speed, damage, attack and defense ratings and special abilities.
blackies are good as well and in some very limited cases would be better than archangels (having armageddon + 30 spell power, fighting against a magic-orientated hero and so on) but generally AA are the best.

I remeber playing vs AI and playing hot-seat,where the game lasted 2-3 month, but online it lasts 2-4 weeks. And building Angels week 1 is very possible, try building Blackies.

Dungeon - A short analysis
Warlock is the most powerfull magic hero. He has a 100% chance to achive intelligence (expert doubles his mana!!!), a good chance to achive sorcery. Compare it with the wizard. No chances for wizard. The Warlock will have more mana and mor spell power. Where he'll got more mana? Intelligence will double his mana, and mana vortex will double too his mana!!!
A level 18 wizard:
Attack: 3
Defense: 4
Knowledge: 8
Power: 8
Total: 22
A level 18 warlock:
Attack: 2
Defense: 3
Knowledge: 7*4=28
Power: 10
Total: 43
43 vs. 22
The warlock crashes the wizard.
But, suddenly, the Warlock can’t got armorer & offense, 2 crucial skills.
The Overlord is too very good. He'll got Tactics, Armorer, Offense and Logistics. A good Explorer, good at start because he'll arrange his troops, protect his shooters, and aproach the enemy. He can flee on the Adventure Map. A level 18 Overlord will look something like that:
Attack: 8
Defense: 7
Power: 4
Knowledge: 4
Total: 23
Let’s talk about the creatures:
Level 1- Troglodyte
A good creature. 1-3 damage(bless & curse is crucial.), but not a good speed. Good growth+ Mushroom rings. The 4th creature of he’s level. Also, immune to blind.
Level 1 advance - Infernal Troglodyte
It has +1 at speed and at health. Nice.
Level 2- Harpy
Hmmm, nice. Bless & Curse is crucial(1-4 dmg.) Good speed.
Level 2 advance - Harpy Hag
Very good upgrade. 9 speed!!! At the beginning, is good vs. shooters. Also, strike&return without retaletion.
Level 3- Beholder
Good shooter, a lot of hit points and no fear of close combat. Also, no mele penalty
Level 3 advance - Evil Eye
Evil eyes make a good shooter unit and they don't die as quick as most low level shooters. Also, no mele penalty
Level 4- Medusa
Quite good creature, but only 4 shoots. No mele penalty!
Level 4 advance - Medusa Queen
Very good advance -. 8 shoots. For 30 gold!!!
Level 5- Minotaur
“Go and kill”, that is the mino. Very good creature, +1 morale bonus.
Level 5 advance - Minotaur King
The same, but other minor things. Over 7 speed, he can wait, and with double turn kill the enemy.
Level 6- Manticore
Hmmm, below-average.
Level 6 advance - Scorpicore
A bit too expensive, but a good speed(11).
Level 7- Red Dragon
Good creature, better than Green Dragon. It’s good to have them in your army.
Level 7 advance - Black Dragon
Very food creature. A bit too expensive, but he’s the 2nd level 7 in the whole game! Immune to all spells. You can cast some area attack without fear.
Total health: 210+224+308+240+300+320+600=2202
Conclusion: It’s a very good faction. 2 blind abilities, 3 flyers, 2 shooters, and the shooters don’t have mele penalty. Also, they have very good mele creatures. And they have a King and a Queen. They have good heroes, probably the second faction, under Castle.
A good strategy: Place the shooters in the corners. If you have Tactics, approach with the Dragons, Scorpicores, Harpies. The mino at the line with advance tactics, the Troglodite in defend. Cast mass haste, and then go with your creatures and smash them!

um,so wrong....(if you are multiplying warlocks knowlege by 4 why not add attack and defense skills to overloard,or count in tactics and others.
And those are stats that would be if u stay in caslte the whole game, real stats come from fightings and arties, the way u get it is fight. And building mage guild all way is very hard, since thats not build creatures and castle week 1.Its hard enaugh to find sulfur for drags week 2.
Quote: They have good heroes, probably the second faction, under Castle
So u dont think stronghold and fortress are as good?Or maybe compare magic and magic, take Conflux?I put them below avarege.

I kind of agree with him that dungeon has one of the best FIGHTER classes in the game - the overlord (together with the barbarian, the beastmaster, the planeswalker and the demoniac). haha. there are really good heroes like shakti and dace who start with two of the four most important secondary skills in the game for me: tactics and offense (the other two being logistics and earth magic).

Thread ressurrection:
My usual hero choice as a main: Gunnar (would be my 1st choice), or Shakti due to his high no. of starting trogs.
Typical day 1 strategy: I ll get pillar of eyes, hire probably 2 more heroes and collect resources, flag mines etc.
Next I develop for the minotaurs , my typical day3 building.
By that time I have most likely realised if the map will be a rich one or not, so my building strategy will start to vary.
The start of week 2 I probably have a citadel built - and I personally start cracking the crypts I find on start of week 2. Cuz I can't be certain wether i ll face a full crypt, a medium one or a weak one. With week 2 army I don't have to worry about that anymore.
The goal for the 2nd week's end on a rich map would be a castle and manticore lair. On a poor one I'd have the city hall built and I would most likely pursue the castle and a capitol (this is actually a conservative strategy, if not too conservative one, and might stall me). Of course the main goal is to get a castle up and running by the end of 2nd week.
But as I said, by the time I figure out how the map will be developing, the building sequence etc will vary alot.
The main strategies in a battle I use. Well, if i have scorpicores I will have a single stack that will do the paralising ( maybe a "Few" stack, to endure the ret strike).
I will probably have bless or perhaps even frenzy, so on that case i carry tank meat and harpies with me. Frenzy the harpies, wait, and have a double blow. And frenzied harpies, with a stack of like even 50 or smth do really really high damage. Ofcourse the objective during the battle is to protect them, cuz they ll have no defense at all.
Against players - well, If i manage to get an armageddon somewhere, sorcery, exp fire - it 's pretty obvious. (ofcourse i will always have a stand by scout to check if there are any magic prohibitors on the enemy)
If i get Sacrifice, then that will be good as well. Mainly to keep my minotaurs healthy by sacrificing some less relevant creatures such as trogs or 6th lvls.
Of course there are countless of circumstances in any battle, and it really depends on them what my strategy will be during the battle.
I could write a whole essay about my viewpoints on Dungeon. There are simply too many things to have them all fully covered.
I'm not the best Dungeon-ist, but this kind of strategy works satisfactory for me.

Lets forget about Gunnar - Gunnar is no more, we banned him : )
2nd - Scorps are so much important than minotaurs - i just can't explain it, but trust me Get them asap!
perfect build would be dragons on week 1, which is not likely to happen and the lesser is to have the PoS with a dwell. So here comes an important decision to make, you could theoretically build an upgrade or a town hall or a marketplace week one. It's all map defendant.
3rd - If you could get your hands on a barbarian - do so. Start with Shaq, but look for Crag : )
Last - don't buy medusas until later, use the eyes, or if you can, just the scorps, minos and trogs - you are not rampart : )

Uh oh , a dragon dwelling on the first week.
Extremely hard to accomplish 22 sulfur for the dragon building, and i think either minotaurs or scorpions required sulfur as well.
I still go with the idea that citadel + 6th on week 1 will be more efficient. Sometimes I find a red dragon cave nearby my castle, so I don't bother with the castle dragon cave maybe even in week 3. Altho yes, 4 dragons a week is nice.
Ok, if logistic special is banned then Shakti. (Altho, I started 1 game with lorelei, and i was lucky to get frenzy . That worked pretty well for me with 2 extra harpie buildings just nearby my town). Oh and I'm playing mostly TE, so i got that harpy growth-rate hero special also.
And yes, I know that scorpions are important. My main strategy with them tho, is highly luck based. I get like a few scorpions, split them and hope for a paralysis attack. Also their speed is satisfactory, get initiative in most battles.
If you know how to make even more use out of scorpions, i'm all ears

Well, i use them for killing lvl 2/3 shooters week 1. A secondary good point in having manticors (and later scorpicors) divided in stacks of 1 is that you can steal a retaliation and when the unit is on low health - just fly it away from danger. Manticors are your fastest unit week 1, so use them for having more moves, by only letting them 'sleep' in your hero's army at the end of the turn. Upgrade is somewhat cheap and gives a lot of speed (+4), so i tend to do it fairly yearly in the game.
On TE i find Dace (minotaurs hero) to be better - he gives more units after lvl 7.
So afterall, no - i don't have a good special tactic about the flying scorpions, to me they are just a way to deal with shooters early on (week 1).
I have yet to play a game where i got my dragons week 1 (excluding Jebus template), but in theory - it's doable.
