You mean C or D or whatever you have?
I installed it on D. Is that relevant?

No, I meant D:\games or something. Make sure it's not a very long path since the longest path is 256 characters I think.
But I doubt it's that problem... and I have absolutely no clue what's wrong otherwise.

Well, I tried to install it on C, and now it works all right. Man, that was strange, why wouldn't my computer allow me to install it on D?

I truly have no idea what went wrong. I just wanted to install it on the hard drive station D, like I have done with other games (H5, HoF etc.) It should work, but then the game tells me that one of the file names is too long!? It works on C, but not on D?!
Well, anyway, I got it installed at least

I have had that problem with some programs and games when I try to install to D:\ or F:\ I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, but it does get quite annoying at times, especially if one of the other drives has a lot more hard drive space than drive C has.

Not that I had little space left on C, I have much, but its just that I usually install games on D. Anyway, it is strange.. As you, Elvin said, I have no way to ewplain it.

I know that space wasn't the problem, I was just giving an example at how your problem can be annoying if you are unable to install to another drive and if you didn't have enough space (which has happened to me).

I have the same problems with black academy and Sylvan, but I'm not too concerned with it. What *is* bothersome to me is the game crashing at random and my computer shutting down along with it. I was able to get through an entire Academy game without that happening, but now it happens at random but always within an hour of play.
I've no idea how to check my system, being as unsavvy in tech that I am, but under "computer" it says Intel Core Duo CPU with 2.00 GB memory (which doesn't make sense to me, as my C drive is listed as having much more than that?) I don't think it's a visual problem since there's no lag whatsoever even on default settings, though some of the effects (lightning bolt inparticular) lag throughout battle, but like the black towns I don't care overly much about that. If anyone has any advice as to how to handle the crashing and shutting down, though, I'm all ears. The game's unplayable like this, and I'm worried that trying to force it to work might damage my computer somehow.

My guess is that your Video Card is not good enough, or you didn't update your drivers...
I have seen that problem with Sylvan's black town many times, and once someone said that he tried the same installation on a computer with a better video card and it worked perfectly.
About those crashes and shutting downs, I believe it may be linked with the video card as well, but I'm not sure. I got some of those crashes myself in a lot of games, not just Heroes 5, but at least mine were rare...

C,D,or any other letter indicates ur Hard drive(place where u store things).Intel Core Duo is ur processor.2 GB of memory is ur RAM(temporal storage, which acts a lot faster then hard drive that ur comp uses),so those are diff things.By the look of ur systme, the video card should do good enough to run the game on high,it might be that u r using a laptop video card or need some updates.

I'm quoting you because your advice sounds like it'll cost me a lot less money to act upon than Asheera's (not that I don't appreciate her advice ) and I'd rather have false hope than the high price of the replacement and installation of a video card. I do have a laptop and whatever video card was built in it. Naturally it wasn't designed for gaming in mind, but I was hoping that it'd be able to handle the (relatively) small demand of Heroes. How would I be able to update it, or at least look up which type I have so that someone her would be able to tell me if it is adequete or not?

i have about same laptop as u,look up what video card u have(u must have Vista,go to system to check)to update drivers go to device manager and video card, then click update drivers if it doesnt help just role it back. But u dont need video card that is expansive as u can check the 1 page of this thread.
edit:u mentioned replacement, that might be a little hard for a laptop.Esp if video card is intergrated.

There is no "video card" tab in my device manager, but there is a "display adapater" which I assume is meant to mean video card? If that's the case, I have a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. It's already as updated as it can be, apparently.

All my other computers were facing problems with it, too. One was simply too slow to run it and the other and extremely glitchy graphics, but updating the device drive on the latter one seems to have helped it out. I'm still dreading crashes, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sure I read somewhere that HOMM V will not run on laptops regardless of their graphics card.
However, that was when it was released.
Does it run on them now, and if I in the market for a new one, what specs would I need to run it well?
Thanks
