When you have a bigger map, the system is trying to render all what you see and to create a "basic" rendering of the other possible zones next to be rendered... That's why it is slower.

What do you mean by a strong system? How strong?

Heroes V is resource demanding but that can be tweaked.

If you want we can discuss this over the HC messenger for keeping the spam for ourselves.

Cheers

I don't consider this to be offtopic ...

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53G (soon to be an E8500)
3G ram DDR2 800Mhz
9600GT 512HP

I know there are ways to tweak the graphic settings, shadows, lights and so on, but even so ... having a drop in the FPS count in some areas without any particular reason, seems to me like poor optimization. And speaking about tweaking, from what I've seen in the user.cfg file, there is no way to lower the shadow quality, or the shadow generated by the clouds or the model detail of the world.

The game is playable, for me at least, but I just wanted to understand how the rendering is done for this game. I've seen other similar games that are much better optimized in my oppinion.
And let's be serious now, H5 isn't exactly a graphical marvel (see Company of Heroes for example).

On an impossible map in TotE, I get an average of 15-20 fps with everything on max, full AA, full AF, max textures, 1280x1024 and full zoom out (depending on the area, usually in sylvan areas where there are those leaves floating the fps drops a little). If I zoom in a little, I get let's say 25 fps. On a large map I usually get something in the area of 45-55 fps, which is pretty decent.

compare with :
P4 Prescot 3 GHz; 2GB DDR-400 CL2-platinum; nVidia 7600 GT-TDH, RAID0 hardisks and the following settings in-game :

1280x1024; full AA,AF, max quality; use hardware cursor, use special trail and is more than playable @ 35 frames...

Indeed, when being on-top of a mountain the rendering gets f34554-off; but for a long-waited nice and cool Heroes V... it deserves at least evitating the programming bugs... (low rendering, poor AI etc.)

I think this is all I can do for you for now; just adapt and don't get bothered by these issues; the game itself is good enough to skip this rendering-related problems...

Cheers

My comp specs is not fantastic either...
P4 Prescott 2.4 GHz;
2 x 1GB DDR-400 RAM;
nVidia 7300 GT;
and with not a lot of hard disk space, need to use virtual RAM (pagefile)

(seems worse than yours, antistar)

In-game I play 1024 x 768 without AA, AF, at normal or low quality, it is still playable, even if frame rate could be low at 13 or so.

Yes this game could be heavy on old systems, but so long as RAM and pagefile are high enough and hard disk space not too little, it is ok.

It seems I'm the worst here

1 GB RAM
P4 Celeron 2.4 Ghz
nVidia GeForce 6200

And I play on 1280x1024. It doesn't go smooth at times, but it's playable at least.

Got a very good friend with the following system :

Intel core2 duo @ 2.6;
2X1GB ddr2 @ 800 (CL3.5 Corsair)
nVidia 8600 GS (or related one, can't remember for sure)
the game just runs perfectly... so... regardless all tech-related problems I played this jewel game on my system before upgradeing the system, the specs were :

intel p4 prescott @ 3 GHz
512 MB DDR1-400MHZ- non Corsair CL2 spec and with a Saphyre Ati 9600XT;

I remember using 1024X768 without AA or AF but quality picture still on highest; also hardware cursor and special hero trail and still got a playable game;

it's just plain love to heroes game, no matter  the system specs and stuff like that...

Yeah the game is playable ... but you should try a map from XL to Impossible on TotE, and you will see a pretty low FPS count if your system is not too fast.

I remember trying to play TotE on this configuration:

Athlon XP 1800+
7600GT 256VRam
2GB RAM 400Mhz

... no AA, 1024x768, and I think I had something like 15 FPS. It was unplayable. I don't know what they've did in TotE, that it is such an imbalance with the other two, reguarding performance.

I've upgraded my cpu to an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz and I've got an 10 fps boost, which is ok. But anyway, I don't think anyone will go and play a map beyong XL.

Map Editor Issues (Tribes of the East)

Been having issues with the map editor and the random map generator. Regardless of the settings, right at the very end of the random map editor, it always crashes, whether I'm running it in the map editor or the game. The map editor seems broken, I have no options to add terrain or monsters, artifacts, objects, etc. It's like I'm missing needed files. I check the object browser in the tools menu and nothing shows up. Anybody know anything about this?

I wonder:
Might it ever happen that I create a map with my Hungarian-Polish HoMM5 standard game's editor, will others (with English version eg.) be able to use it? Because I once uploaded a battle replay and noone could open it...

AFAIK, the language version doesn't matter. However, the game version does, so your original Heroes 5 replays won't be able to be viewed with TotE... I think that's the problem.

I don't know, I *think* that maps from the original can be played on TotE.

I have no idea, but I would hope so. Only the Map texts would be in another language I think (if you don't write them in English)

This damn HoF...

I dunno what's the problem with my HoF, but I simply can't make it work well. It takes SO long to load' reinstalling the game didn't changed anything. The loading screen takes a few mins, and the game itself lags miserably.

I can't play the game thi way, and I want to finish the campaigns. I am a lore-o-freak and the computer doesn't let me chat with Wulfstan.

All this started when I manually added a profile with some saves in the saves folder (I exported my profile in the computer from another computer). HoF  still runs very well and that computer, but, technically, the computer with the original profile is much weaker.

So, what can I do? Am I doomed to play HoF on a weak computer?

NOTE: ToTE works very well on both computers.

Well, I could. But I just want to ask if there is a way to make it work on both computers. The better one seems to lag very bad in HoF; I would like to play the game with the better configuration.
