Haven't tried 3Dmark testing - thanks for the suggestion.
The problem occured only in one other 3D game - Crysis. As for other applications - no problems whatsoever (including 3D modelling in Bryce and web based 3D games such as "Foo pets" if you are familiar with it).
Card temperature seems just fine.
I'll get back to you s soon as I complete the 3dmark test with the results, in the mean time - thank you for you help!

Then I have no idea why it doesn't work. I had a way worse PC before and TotE worked fine with it.
I had a Pentium 4 Celeron 2.4 Ghz, 1 GB Ram, GeForce 6200 128 MB, and game worked (not smooth, but no problems)
As you can see yours should handle it with no problem.
update drivers maybe?

That is exactly my next step - to update the driver. I see there's a new one dated March 3rd, I'll try it and see.
Thank you. :-)

Hi, I just got Heroes V TotE and downloaded some of the "original maps". However, the single player ones with no towns, such as The Queen, I don't get the option to start the game. How can I get around this?

Hi, guys. I played a bit of the two previous "Heroes V" games and now I really want to play the "Tribes of the East" but I'm getting awful FPS results (with low/off settings) though I'm above the minimum system requirements. My hardware is Athlon XP 2700+, 1 GB DDR, GeForce FX 5200. I'm experiencing the same problems with "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" where I'm even above the recommended requirements. A friend suggested that both games would run smoother with older video card drivers (I installed the latest a week ago). So could someone (perhaps with the same video card) please recommend a suitable driver version. Other kind of help will be of course also appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
Edit: The mentioned FPS-problems start with the main menu screen already. The cursor does not actually move but "jumps" from one location to another and it's extremely hard to even start a game.

It is a weak video card. If you can get to the options menu you can "use hardware cursor" and that will make the mouse smoother. Edit: there is a way to do it from the config files.

PhoenixReborn, thank you for trying to help!
It's actually FX 5500 (256 MB), not 5200, my bad. That's not so important, they're almost identical.
I know it's weak. That's why I choose games suitable for it's performance... and H5 ToE should be one of them. ! The cursor-thing was just an example, it doesn't solve the problem generally. I mean better menu performance does not mean better in-game performance.
When I meet the minimum system requirements I expect the game to be playable on the lowest settings. I doubt that the developers publish the MSR just to let you know that the game will run on your computer... and nothing more.
I still have a hope that changing the drivers could help. I mentioned "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" in my previous post. And here's why:
Me
Athlon XP 2700+
1 GB DDR
GeForce FX 5500
Settings: Low, 1024x768
Result: 5 or less FPS
Friend of mine
Athlon XP 1900+
1 GB DDR
GeForce FX 5200
Settings: Medium, 1024x768
Result: 15-20 FPS

I had a friend that had the same specs as your friend and could play TotE, except the processor who was a Pentium 4 Celeron 2.4 Ghz.
So it's either the processor's 'fault' or your overall system configuration (what programs are running in the background, for example?)

Not sure if this thread is still beeing read, but...
Hello, i recently reinstalled HoMMV and I stumbled into a nasty problem. Mainly, whenever I start to play, the graphics look horrid ( really washed out textures )and this with everything put on max in the options menu.
I can fix this by sliding the AA a bit down or up ( just so the apply button could do something ), and after that everything would look ok. But this only works till I enter a battle when everything goes to its washed out state and stays that way.
Something I noticed is that when i load up a game, the graphics look ok for a second till they get blurry.
Does anybody know why this is happening?

The game does not see the saves
I've just installed v 1.0, played for a while, tried to save and then to load the saved game, however there were no saved games to choose from (ie no list at all). Tried to save again after rebooting - same effect.
However the campaign menu is updated after I finish individual scenarios, so technically I can play the campaign, but I must finish each scenario in one session - otherwise I have to start from the beginning of the unfinished scenario.
I can see the saves in the saves directory - deep inside the 'bin' subfolder of the HMM5 directory - but from within the game I don't see any saves. Please let me know which patch I need to fix this.
Thanks in advance!

Maybe you try to load single from multiplayer or something? It is not possible for the saves not to show so I'm assuming you are looking at the wrong place.

Elvin -
Thanks for your response, but no - everything is being done correctly - just for some reason the saves are not seen from within the game (at all - empty list). I assume that it's a bug that must have been fixed in one of the patches - I just don't want to go through all the patches that are out there
Originally the saves folder was installed here:
C:\Program Files\Nival Interactive\Heroes of Might and Magic V\bin\gt-cap.local\shared\users\dmitri_p\My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\Dmytro\Saves
I tried to copy the saves folder as follows:
C:\My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\Dmytro\Saves
or
\\gt-cap.local\shared\users\dmitri_p\My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\Dmytro\Saves
[it's the place on the corporate server where I store 'My Documents']
but it didn't help
Maybe you could paste the route where your saves are stored, so I can see what went wrong with mine?
Thanks in advance

@Seppuku you can change the value:
setvar gfx_resolution = 1024x768
here:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\profiles\default_profile\user_a2.cfg
I didn't test it but if that one doesn't work there is a similar file in mydocuments.
