I have an issue similar to that of Dmytro. I am trying to run on XP via Parallels Desktop on a Mac. Runs a lot faster than on my older PC, actually.
However, the way Parallels is set up, the Documents folder is on a network share (My Documents = \\.psf\Home\Documents)
When H5_Game.exe runs, it creates a directory:
C:\Program Files\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\bin\.psf\Home\Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\Profiles
It seems to not follow the network path correctly, and saves to the creates the path in the bin directory.
Is there a way to modify the location of the profile directory, either through cfg file or by command line?

First of all, Elvin - thanks for the info, but that didn't work either.
Gecko -
The solution that I found is to log onto PC off the LAN - this way a new directory was created (path is similar to what Elvin quoted) to which I copied all the *.cfg and *.sav files from the originally-created directory. All the saves became visible thereby I could play longer missions in the campaign

Yes, that works. There is an option to have a local profile with Parallels. Was just wondering whether there was a command-line switch to specify the profile directory. Some games let you do that.

Hello, i recently reinstalled HoMMV and I stumbled into a nasty problem. Mainly, whenever I start to play, the graphics look horrid ( really washed out textures )and this with everything put on max in the options menu.
I can fix this by sliding the AA a bit down or up ( just so the apply button could do something ), and after that everything would look ok. But this only works till I enter a battle when everything goes to its washed out state and stays that way.
Something I noticed is that when i load up a game, the graphics look ok for a second till they get blurry.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
I am having the exact same thing happening. I am using the Steam version.
Any suggestions?

Does it run slow on lowest settings as well?
If so I guess it's the type of video card - it's not just about the video memory. An integrated video card isn't really that great for games.

It runs slow on the lowest settings indeed.
But what i find strange then, is that the yougamer.com says that my systeem meets the requirements. And i can play some newer games to with higher video requirements. (C&C3 for instance)

The fact that it meets minimal requirements doesn't mean it will run flawlessly, it rather means it will run... at all. Face it, your comps's too slow. H5 likes RAM very much - ony one gb is not enough for comfortable playing.

My oldest laptop with H5 orig/HOF/TOTE on it runs fine
Intel Pentium M 2.13GHz
1GB RAM (1x1GB)
nVidia GeForce Go 256MB (non-integrated) video card
runs fine so somehow don't think 1GB RAM is an issue by itself.
Agree with Asheera, could be 128MB shared (integrated) video memory card.
iirc H5 is graphics memory hog altho I think patches improved it a bit...

Yep unless you have Vista 1 GB is enough, my old comp also had only 1 GB and TotE worked on it even at just one level below max for quality. Indeed it had slowdowns if I zoomed out on the adventure map or when Firewall was cast but otherwise it went ok.
Also try to update your drivers maybe? Although I'm pretty sure you did this.

I just recently bought a new laptop
Vostro 1720
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550, 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6M L2 Cache 35w
4GB DDR2 800MHZ 2 DIMM Vostro
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512MB Graphics Vostro
250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor Vostro
8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+/-R write capability
It took a long time to open cd's (took it over 4 minutes to open something as old as starcraft) right out of the box. I ditched vista for XP and then everything seemed to work fine. I've got all the drivers installed, but for some reason sometimes it doesn't recognize the heroes dvd. Also the game runs slow and choppy, is something wrong with my computer? It should run Heroes 5 no problem right?

hmmm,IMHO, VIsta is a fail product
XP should do just fine!
but if your laptop DVD-ROM broken, you should replace it
anyway, your spec is too perfect to run HOMM V smoothly...

I was just wondering because my computer seemed like it was running really slow, even with Vista it shouldn't take it over 4 minutes to open a cd. I thought maybe it was because of all the crap that Vista does so I went with XP and it was better but it still runs slow in games. I mean I have to play with the settings to get it to run as good as my old laptop that is 6 years old and nothing special.

hmmm, is your DVD-ROM in trouble? have you played DVD movies in your DVD-ROM?
if changing softwares cant let your games run better, then it must be your hardware

Unable to uninstall or patch game
Hello, I've recently re-installed HoMM5 and have been trying to update it to the current patch. I have, however, reached a minor roadblock. It appears that, after patching, my game is still recognized as Version 1.0, not 1.1, 1.4, 1.5 or any of the other patch versions. I have tried uninstalling the game yet that only resets the game so it appears freshly installed. If anybody else has had this problem, please respond with a solution. Thanks!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I can tell that the game did not successfully patch because none of the features (ex: auto-updater, an easy difficulty, neutral creature threat levels, etc...) were not in the game. I have also tried different patches yet none work.

What did the program say when you tried to run patch 1.6? The most common problem is with the wrong patch being downloaded, i.e. trying to apply for instance US patch on EU game, etc. but install program will claim game is not there at all when you try to run patch if that's the case. Did that happen?

I guess I should have been more specific, all the patches downloaded and went through the installer w/o any problems. The problem was that the game itself would not update along with the patches.
EDIT: Ok, I managed to uninstall HoMM5 with some freeware and was able to reinstall it successfully. I tried patching again (making sure it was the US version) and the patches all seemed to install fine. The game, however, once again did not update alongside the patches.

I'm posting a reply to give an update. I have tried uninstalling some programs to free up space for the patches and have disabled several processes during the patch installation. None of these have seemed to help with my problem. So once again, please post a response if you have any info that will help me successfully patch my game. Thanks!
