Heroes V of Might and Magic 1.0
Ok so I was playing the game, I was Necropolis, my enemy was Haven. I played for about 1 hour, I made a big city, nice army prepared for my hero. Next I saw an enemy hero aproaching, his army was small, about 30 elven archers and about 20 sworddancers(not sure about the name), he just walked up to my main city ( witch had all defensive upgrades) and took over it with no fight. i decided to go to the town with my main hero but no hope, I had to destroy it's defenes, Is that normal? I was playing singleplayer on a multiplayer map ( the 8 player one, Warlords).
I couldn't get the patches because there is a problem with my internet, If anyone can enlighten me, please do it.
Thanks.

Guys, remember you should have no problems with Heroes as long as you have the latest graphics card drivers updated and the latest Heroes Patch (very NB):
Heroes V - Patch 1.6
Heroes V HoF - Patch 2.01
Heroes V Tribes - Patch 3.1

Need help?
Quote: I think that maybe a growing number of Heroes V players using Windows 7 will have trouble starting the game because they are missing the d3dx9_25.dll file. I made a detailed post on this issue on Ubisoft's tech forum for Heroes V, and I am duplicating it here. If the moderator of this forum thinks this is inappropriate, please delete it.
1. Do a Web search for d3dx9_25.dll
2. You should get at least a couple of hits that direct you to a site where you can download the d3dx9_25.dll file.
2. To access d3dx9_25.dll from the downloaded file, you will probably need to unzip the file. Windows 7 does that automatically by simply double-clicking on the download. (I don't remember for sure, but I think that Windows XP and Windows Vista may also automatically unzip it.) Otherwise you'll need an application like WinZip to unzip it.
3. After opening up the downloaded file (that is, after unzipping it), highlight and copy the d3dx9_25.dll file. Then go to your Heroes of Might and Magic V folder. If you did the default installation, this file will be in your Ubisoft folder. If you have the Tribes of the East expansion installed, in addition to the Heroes of Might and Magic V folder your Ubisoft folder will also have a Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East folder.
4. In your Heroes of Might and Magic V folder(s), you will have at least one bin file. If you have the Hammers of Fate expansion installed, your Heroes of Might and Magic V folder will have a bin file and a bina1 file. Open up each of those bin files and paste the d3dx9_25.dll file that you have downloaded and copied. If you have Tribes of the East installed, your Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East folder will have a bin and a binDM file. Again, open each of those bin files and paste the d3dx9_25.dll file.
That's it. Your game should now start up.
Note: I have seen other forum posts regarding d3dx9_25.dll. I don't remember if I saw those posts here or in the forums at Celestial Heavens and Heroes Community. I do remember that those posts suggested that you simply install DirectX during the game's installation process. That will install the d3dx9_25.dll file in your Heroes of Might and Magic V bin folder(s). I did not want to do that, however, because I think I should have the most recent version of DirectX, which is DirectX 11, not DirectX 9.0c (installed by the game). You may run into trouble with other applications if you don't have the most recent version of DirectX. Also, I don't trust another poster's suggestion that it's okay to have two versions of DirectX installed.
You should install the most recent patches. As of this post, they are version 1.6 for Heroes of Might and Magic V, version 2.1 for Heroes of Might and Magic V - Hammers of Fate, and version 3.1 for Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East. I think you can get all those patches from the Ubisoft site. If not, check forums at Celestial Heavens and Heroes Community. Your version of the game can be seen by opening the game and proceeding to the main-menu screen. Check the corner. Warning!!! -- Be sure to install the correct regional version of the patch. As did I, you might think you need the US version when you actually need the EU (European) version. (See my other post, titled "Patches are not recognizing my installation of Heroes V."

You can get the d3dx9_25.dll file from the above link.
this is the source which is best for solving this sort of dll related issues.
Click the Link on this page “Run a Free DLL Scan” and it will fix it for you.

Quote: Hey Guys! Got a question: Is it normal that the game runs smooth as hell for a minute and then got delay like im playing a high-end game?
Well I guess not but I hope you folks can help me out somehow, donno why its like that.
I got a
GeForce 9500M GS with 512 MB Ram with an
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4 G, and
4 GB Ram
so folks, looking at how smooth it works every minute and looking at my specs I guess im safe when I say it should work fine!
Drivers are also up to date, well the date which is possible for a notebook.
So tell me please! What can I do??
Hello solipso,
Try to follow these steps:
d3dx9_25.dll
This is because you are missing a file.
Step 1. You can download here.
Step 2. Paste this file into your system32 and system folder. Also put it in your syswow
Step 3. Navigate to your System32(32Bit OS) or SyWOW64(64Bit OS) Folder.
Note: The location of System32 or SyWOW64 is
C:Windows\System32 (If you are using 32Bit Windows)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (if you are using 64Bit Windows)
Step 4.Paste the d3dx9_25.dll into this folder.
Step 5.Run the game. It might work now.

I also had this d3dx9_25.dll problem at first but not anymore.
Try re-installing the game, the exe file should be "run as administrator" then install the right patch (eg tribes 3.1).

Strange and unsolvable camera bug ?
Hello Heroes fans !
I tried to load up a fan made map called The Forgotten Hero on my ToE 3.1 HoMM V version, wich was running fine until then. When the map loaded up, my FPS was extremely low and the camera was stuck at about the top of the trees height, and looking all the way to the horizon, eventhough I had "Classic HoMM view" in the graphic options. Changing the camera option didn't solve the problem, nor did any mouse clicking to rotate or elevate it. The game was simply unplayable...
I thought it was the map that had a problem, but when I tried loading another one a few days later, and a map that worked fine before, the same problem arised. Again, no way to fix it with the video options or the mouse. This problem occurs now whatever the map I load.
I tried to delete my profile to restore a vanilla version of the config files, didn't work. Tried the dn3d_25.dll thing too, no change. Does anyone have a clue about how to fix this ? UI could simply reinstall the game (hoping the problem would disappear), but I prefer to find a real fix for it, in case it happens again and I'm not anywhere near my HoMM DVD.
Here are 2 screenshots, one of the problem, the other showing that appart from that, the game is running fine.
Thanks for your help

Maybe some modded map is intervening somehow? Does this happen if you remove your maps from their folder?

Oh, incredibly fast response time ! Great
Didn't try that one yet, thanks for the idea. I have indeed a lot of custom maps in my map folder, as well as vanilla HoMM V and HoF campains and maps on my ToE (owning the games, just didn't install them).
I'll try a bit later, I have to reboot to my wintendo first^^.

Ok, I tried, but to no avail, the problem is still there >_<. I even tried to remove everything but the essential data folders, delete the profiles, and even the registry key !
Is there some other variable I'm missing here ? I can't think of a map making changes to the exe or something, it would be crazy. I'm starting to think even a reinstall won't do the trick...

Can you take the pc back to an earlier date, before the day this started?
If you can try this, make sure you have a solid back-up.

Thanks for the suggestions
Nope, no graphical mod. No mod at all in fact.
Yes, my drivers are up to date (Catalyst 11.7). I could change drivers to 11.6, but not before, the E-350 APU (I'm on a MSI Wind U270) isn't supported in the 11.5 drivers.
But before trying that, I'll backup my actual folder of the game, uninstall it, then reinstall the whole thing from scratch. If it does the trick (and I really expect it does), I'll try replacing the "corrupted" files one at a time to find the origin of the problem. Once I've located it, I'll try to run the same map again (after backup up the necessary files of course).
I don't have the skills needed to go to the real bottom of this, but at least I'll try to find a way to solve the problem wouyld it happen again. I'll keep you posted on my findings, and any other ideas are still welcome .

Solved...kinda'
Reinstall did solve the camera problem. And after a few file swap tries, it seems that the problem was coming from my old HoMMV vanilla profile. Without it, even the incriminated map works correctly.
The strange thing is, when I put the profile for the newly installed and working game, the camera problem occurs again. But if I remove it, the problem stays, like the previous launch of the game with the old profile messed some part of the exe's or something...
What's even more strange is that the game ran fine with the old profile a few weeks ago, when I first installed it on my new PC...until I tried the map mentioned above.
Anyway, the game runs fine now, and just to be safe, I backed up the bin/binDM/profiles/registry entries in a .7z file.
Oh, and since my old saves didn't work with ToE, the sole purpose of my old profile was the Hall of Fame entries for the 6 vanilla campaigns. Well, seems like just keeping the HallofFame.sav file doesn't corrupt the camera, so I still have my all-Black Dragons records \o/

Hi Heroes Community.
I have a strange problem with my Heroes 5 and maybe you will be able to help me. I am
trying to run it on my Asus 1001XPD netbook and it is working fine apart from one thing:
the wood piles on the map give some strange graphic artifacts like that:
I haven't noticed any other resources creating such troubles. Also other things seem to run
fine.
Now disabling pixel shader solves this problem, but creates some new ones, like obvious
missing graphics (ignorable) and some gfx left overs on the battlefield, like after a
spell.
I do not hove to use the glorious 3d Analyze to run the game with pixel shaders due to
Sherry drivers installed recently. Still, even on the standard drivers and 3da this problem
persists unless pixel shader is disabled. I have also tried running the game with pixel
shader limited to 1.4 and forced low precision shader to no effect. I have also tried to
play with settings in cfg file to no luck. I have a feeling that some modded texture or
lighting pack will have to be copied into game files, similarily to those for resolving the
dark sylvan/academy problems.
My specs:
Windows 7 Starter
Intel GMA 3150
Intel Atom 455
1GB ram
The game performance is OK.
Does Heroes Community have any suggestions what can be done with this?

Just one short question:
Is it possible to modify in the game where to save and where to load from the saved games and at all profile data?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Have a nice day,

Vulcancolak, it could be various things, but if it was in the campaign, it would possibly be some problem with campaign specific files. If you're using any mod though, this is much more likely to be the source of the problem.
Is any special new event supposed to occur when you win a battle or when griffins die? Different animations? If griffins had some special ability used when retaliating (or whenever they hit in any fashion), that could cause crashes if there is supposed to be a special animation for the ability but it has not been linked.
That kind of crash was occurring for me when I tested giving unskilled Land Mine (Fire Trap) to Goblin Trappers and they would strike the Jesus Pose (that all models use when there is no associated animation for a special ability or attack), but sometimes it would crash as or after it did so. Otherwise, I don't know the cause. It is most likely related to either hardware issues, driver problems, or modifications you are using.
Now for my turn.
I'm having a sort of graphical glitch that only occurs at startup, regardless of in-game graphical settings and nVidia setup.
MSI GTX460 768 MB, Windows 7, i5 760 at 2.946Ghz (4 cores), 4GB gaming ram at 1400Mhz currently i.e. not going to be a hardware issue.
Drivers are pretty new, might be the newest as it's not long since I updated (EDIT: I continue to update them, it's not changing).
As soon as I change the resolution or any other graphic setting (eye candies on or off, AA, AF and going into Full Screen, as well as all others), it will be fixed, until I next start up HOMMV, but when I do, it'll start up glitchy again.
I can obviously fix the playing experience every time by continuing to apply any unwanted setting (to fix it) and then reapplying those that I want, but I'd rather avoid that. :/
The blur I see is evident in the game menu, in a game (regardless of map size), in the map editor (regardless of map size; you can't change the graphic settings here to fix it, but it can be temporarily fixed here by reloading a map), just anywhere.
I had no such problems in the past on Windows XP with a machine from the end of 2003 and only 512MB of RAM and a 128MB graphics card.
Screenshots in JPG (I didn't scale them down though, so 325KB on average), using two different opening scenes (the second being the Necropolis Town scene)

EDIT: Stuffed up the naming of the screenshots initially, also, the screenshots look harder to see the difference on when I'm viewing them linked rather than on the hard drive, partly due to lowering screenshot size though (for saving people bandwidth), but you should still be able to tell that the difference between Very Low and Very High is far less noticeable than the difference between Very Low and the screenshot from game startup (with the glitch).
