You know, my parents were always irresponsible. They don't monitor my every web activity 24/7, they don't throw away my PC if I'm on it for 7 seconds longer than we agreed... They even let me close the door from my room whenever I want, the devilish bastards And we all know that when parents allow their child a basic humane level of privacy, you know they suck at parenting.
However, strangely enough, no pedophile has ever raped me or kidnapped me or anything. Heck, I was never even attacked by a pack of wild panthers (except for that one time).
[sarcasm off]
[sincereness on]
See, you can spend your entire life afraid of the dark, avoiding walking alone, never returning home late, etcetera, and then someone can just mug/rape/kill you in the middle of the day, in the school bus or something. Just like you can walk the streets all by yourself in the middle of the night every day and nothing happens to you.
Of course you should be cautious, and your child too, I never said you should walk alone through shady alleys at midnight. But all I'm saying is, it's pointless to get too fanatical over it. If something bad's going to happen to you, it can as well be a traffic accident (which are, we'll both agree, a far more often occurance than pedophiles).

I get that Bak and I don’t worry all the time. But lets eat a reality cookie for moment shall we. Having a person that has been instructed by law to stay away from children and should not be working direct with them, driving a school bus is ridiculous. We can only protect so much as parents and sending my child on the bus so Mr. Touchy Feel Good so he can have his try at my child is not my idea of a good time. Nor do I think that is too much to ask from a school not to hire pedophiles to have direct contact with my children.

My AP Gov teacher was fired (well, forced to resign) after he sent some really bad text messages and naked pictures of himself to a whole bunch of girls. There's even a police investigation about it. But they'll probably cover it up. You see, he was also a wrestling coach, and wrestling is like a religion where I live. I never liked him, though. I hated him before this.

Well, since you revived this thread...
I think that it's better giving your children tools to cope with things in life, instead of preventing them to cope with things. For example, what happens if you find out your son watching porn on the internet? You can:
1. Block his admission to the sites
2. Ignore the entire thing
3. Ask him to stop doing it
4. Discuss with her about it
I think that the most effective solution will be 4. If you block the admission to the sites, he'll look for porn in other places, I don't think it's good to ignore it, and by telling him to stop it, you will probabaly make the entire thing more exciting for him. By discussing with him about it, you can give him tools to cope with it. You can explain him that what is shown there is not what happens in the reality, and that usually older people watch it, but it's normal that teenages have interest in that, too, etc.
You find out that your girl has sex with older people? You can:
1. Limit the time she goes out and check with what people she hangs out with.
2. Ignore the entire thing
3. Ask her to stop doing it
4. Discuss with him about it
Again, the most effective thing will be, in my opinion, 4. If you start liminting her and check with what people she hangs out with, not only she will start lying to you, she will also continue doing the same, ignoring the entire thing is not very good either, and asking her to stop will (again) probabaly make the entire thing more exciting for her. By discussing with her about it, you can explain to her about condoms, about how guys can be with girls only for sex, about the reputation of a snow that having sex may give young girls, etc.
Maybe the ultimate solution is preventing those things from happening on the first place, but in what cost? Limints are good, but they should be reasonable for the things they are trying to protect from. I wouldn't follow my son's browsing to make sure he's not surfing in porn sites. I don't think that is worth the cost.

O_o ...
Here, where I live, we have a lot of teenage pregnancies. I'm sure that the parents talk to their children, but they continue.

Nah discussion won't work properly. Really, GL. When you talk to them they will:
1. Not listen to you
2. Not cares about the thing - good or bad
3. Will wait till you stop and when you go out of the room he will turn the porno again.
4. All of the above
So really discussions have no effect.
For example - what if your son/daughter smoke?
1. You can discussions with him, how harmful for his/her health the cigarettes are. And what? You think he/she already don't know it? I know countless doctors - smokers, they just don't care.
2. But also you can stop his pocket money, so he will not be able to buy cigarettes (and not only). You are the power, you are his source for everything - if you don't want to give him pocket money you will not. The threat of this will have effect.

You can't compare smoking to watching porn of having sex. Smoking is bad nomatter how you look at it, while having sex and watching porn are normal things.
About sex discussions...
That's right that they may not listen to you. I think that another option is to buy a book about that and to leave on on their desk, without saying a thing. They won't discuss about it, but will certainly read the book.

Unless you lock them in the basement, kids are going to do whatever they want. That's why parents have to set an example to their kids, and generally raise them correctly. If they don't, they can say, "Hey, smoking and underage sex are bad, k?" and it won't have any result. You can't convince them in a day, or a week, or a month. It takes all of their lives.

Ofcourse the parents should raise them correctly. But "correctly" is a wide term. Different people see it in different ways.
In my opinion, good parent will find the place in the middle, between taking all their privacy and letting them to do what they want.

Privacy vs. letting them do whatever they want
is only a small aspect of raising children correctly. Sure, controlling them works when they're young, but when they get to high school the parents won't be able to do much. The idea is not to not let them do something, but to raise them so they don't want to do something.

Duh. You're saying nothing new. We're talking about how to do that, not what should be done.

Its all question of morality and mentality.
For me they are "bad" things. Also Mvass no pocket money is far away from locking in a celler.
True parent's are the first example, so its connected with your own morality.

Well not in my point of view... also if we are talking for a bit younger persons... if 15 years old girl has sex with older man (like 20-30 or more years old) you call this normal?!

This discussions can take pages, but I'll say my opinion here shortly:
Every teeanger boy watches porn atleast once. So I think that it's normal. Getting addicted to porn is not good at all, IMO.

Ofcourse not! Let's say we're talking about sex with agreement, with teenagers from about the same age. I call it normal.

All right then, what should be done... Let's see here...
1. Teach children to use logic and value education (or, at least, despise ignorant druggies).
2. Encourage them to hang out with people like them at school.
3. With peer pressure, the biggest cause of social problems among the youth removed, most of the problem is solved. In fact, you'll have peer pressure working for you, rather than against you.
Quote: Also Mvass no pocket money is far away from locking in a celler.
That's true. But in high school, many kids get jobs. Are parents just going to take their money away?

Porn in general and child porn are very different things. And pedophilia is also very harmful. The biggest problem that porn poses is that of addiction. But if you don't get addicted, it shouldn't change anyone's life very much.
