ok elvin (I liked your h5 avatar better)
here's a stoooopid question. everybody was talking about the quadriple flaming ballista. From what I have played (vittorio with triple ballista and flaming arrows and exp war machines) I think the ring of machine affinity is the only way you can achieve such a feat.
Am I wrong? (3.0 version)

That is correct. Wonder what happens if you have a 2nd of those rings 
Btw I tried to use the arcane archer but I just was used to the phoenix, it didn't feel right

the ballista can be quite devastating even with three shots, especially lucky ones with flaming arrows - recently, I killed 12 blackies with 3 shots (2 lucky and one normal) - 2, 5, 5 the other guy quitted...

Hehehe  Yeah it's very good now, first thing in a battle is check if the enemy's ballista has boosted stacks and destroy it asap. As it is now it's not a creeping-only skill.

the ballista has 10 (11 with some help) speed and it often gets at least one turn. if we are not talking about great battles with 50+ lvl7 creatures and the like, its health is also able to assure another one. It's a great combination with palladins, seraphs, marksmen and battle griffins.
actually i want to mention another point as well. while playing the necro campaing (arantir), i found out that i prefer to use the new necro upgrades from tiers 1 to 6, and for tier 7 for now i can't make quite a difference between the two dragons. the thing is, are the new creatures overpowered, or the old ones were lame?
the skeleton warrior is an awesome upgrade imo (nice speed, initiative, specials, attack and defense, damage)
the rot zombie is more useful for me for weakening the enemy and even more durable
the poltergeist - there are more shooters than casters
the vampire prince moves farther and has an awesome special, although they suffer enemy retaliation, i still pick them, because i find them more useful
the lich master has no death cloud, but can cast raise dead twice 
the banshee's special still remains a mystery to me but it ought to be more useful than the wraith's in most cases and with large numbers of creatures, and it has 10 more hp.
and, lvl 7, perhaps the original upgrade...

Depends, I often prefer to have shooters.

I didn't try that, does it also heal them? +1 speed, -1 initiative so I'm not so sure about them.

Unless I have mass confusion I easily prefer vamp lords. More reliable.

Maybe if you want to counter phantom forces but it sucks. Wraith all the way more melee capable something that necro has a need of.

I guess our opinions for most of the creatures greatly differ.
I suggest you try a combo with skeleton warriors entering the fight and liches raising them back if needed. It is really good imo.
Try torpor, the other vampires are boring - they haven't changed since the very beginning of heroes
I don't think the poltergeists heal themselves, yet I haven't try to steal ammo with injured polt.
the wraith IS more of a fighter than the banshee, but a combo with lowering enemy morale and using death wail also seems interesting.
What do you think about the dragons? (I take it we agree on lich masters and zombies)
