Should we keep the +QP/-QP system?

We had a hot discussion about quality points, penalties, mod power abuse etc. lately.

Should this system stay or go?

I personally like the mentioned idea, the moderators decide what flood protection each member has. It can be changed anytime a mod thinks it needs to be done.

What's your opinion?

I'd love two lose my floodprotect since I'm usually on HC short amount of times I can make several posts in a few minutes, but then not post again for hours. But I kinda like the system... Hmmm...

Keep this system. I actually like it, even through there are some problems about it, but those problems are not that common.

Ehm... how should I say... I think "outrageous" is about right. What? Mod decide on flood protect and can change it whenever they feel like it?
Do you really think that this would make things easier? It'd increase the discussion rate tenfold, apart from being horribly (if not insanely) subjective. Mods are cool and all but... come on... thinking of oneself as to be both so important and right in everything as to actually decide how much a person gets to say on here?

You've got to be kidding me.

EDIT: I feel like I have to clarify this point in order not to get slaughtered...
"thinking of oneself as to be both so important and right in everything as to actually decide how much a person gets to say on here?"
This part is what I see as the neccessary ability to make the system you proposed fair. You propose that mods should be able to decide how much a member can post. Ultimately you decide how much post of this person are "worth" (if they're worth much he'll be able to post a lot and if they're "cheap" he won't be able to post much).
This "labeling" is in my opinion almost insulting. I don't see how anyone would have the right (or can even think of him/herself as being so "just" or "fair" or any other adjective) that he/she should have the right to decide how much one individual gets to say. It's so prepostrous I can't even express it probably.

Personally I really don't care about QPs since they don't mean anything other than a subjective judgement.

The only thing that WOULD bother me is that the max amount you can post is tied in together with your QP value. Remove that plx.

Don't like.

"Why do I have X posts/day while he/she has Y posts/day? Bla bla bla"

It would bring a lot of hostility towards the mods I think.

its a double edged sword.

While they do provide recognition for posts its like giving money to a man for his generous services. people will get upset because they feel some of the qp's weren't deserved. They are highly overrated IMO. People actually seek to get them and people actually believe that having a few stars makes a better person. what happened to just
respect?

The community will respect people who put effort in and their fame grows. While qp's used to distinguish people who are generous and people who care. Alas they now show people who are funny or people who are gifted. They do nothing for people who are consistently kind and friendly. The kind of people a good forum needs.

Its like judging people and giving them certain awards based upon their life's work. AND their personality. Although their life's work can be judged. You can't just reward somebody for being who they are.

Newbs come to HC and see the stars. They think the stars = fame. They go on a qp hunt and try to get many stars. But are they any better off? No, they realize that and slow down becoming regular members.

Its like rewarding people to do charity work. IMO a community should decide the value of the members not a few silly little icons.

And i have sufficiently revised my post so i have no clue what point i'm making

in short, you can understand how it's supposed to solve the problem of people spamming or posting nonsense, but either the concept of a qp needs to be revised or peanuts need to be made an official symbol under the avatar and the concept is revised.

I guess that the QP system works as long as people trust the moderators's judgement and don't rise a big fuss about it.

I used to support the system that was described in the master post, but I'm not so sure anymore. It also seems to be getting alot of negative stuff flicked at it by very influential members of the forum.

What about a system where everyone would be equal in terms of all kinds of rights and priviliges in the forum?

People who don't like QP usually don't have any

Aww, come on, the concept is cool. People who write good, constructive posts, contribute a lot and so should be "rewarded". QP means your contribution has been noticed and approved. That's all.

They are meant to be subjective. But as you can see, if someone really thinks something is QP worthy and writes about it in the feedback thread, a QP is generally given.

If you guys think there isn't enough QPs, contribute more and notify the mods of worthy posts, the amounts of QP will skyrocket. And HC will remain HC, not another random forum with just a postcount. HC is unique

But does the community really suffer from qp hunters?

I don't consider myself a qp hunter but I do believe there are some high-qp members who really WANTED their stars.

"Oh noes! Don't throw your unique and awesome ideas at us!!"

Of course, there are those who just come up with half finished stuff all the time in their hunt, but that's another thing.

What I want to say is that qp hunting isn't necessarly pure evil. Whatever motivates people to contribute is fine... as long as the motivator's not free porn or something...

Also, as Doomforge said, qps makes the place a bit unique.

You guys are talking about the idea of a Mod deciding how much a member can post in disgust, like now Mods can't just silence everyone at will

Now, what I suggest is that every new member should have no penalties at posting (no 20 post limit). I really do not understand why this is like this in the first place, having a 20 post limit from the beginning. It's like judging prematurely a member, and 'correcting' the mistake when that members gets the promising status. This is not right IMO.

You could say that we have spammers and trolls here as well... but seriously, do you really think the 20 post limit solves this problem? Come on, most spammers have a lot of other ways to make this place a disgrace (just remember you-know-who recently) and they are silenced on sight anyway. Now, there is the case of not-so-annoying spammers, who don't need to be silenced, yet they spam a little too much with off-topic and annoy the mods. This can be easily 'fixed' by giving a warning and after that a penalty. And when having a negative post count, only then will there be a post limit. That's my suggestion at least.

but the subjectiveness is why people argue with mods about them the subjective is the problem. As long as they are subjective and mods behave like normal members the problem would exist.

So people who are naturally positive, good at making interesting topics or making the forum more fun are not worthy of recognition? I don't quite follow your logic. Qps don't award people's personalities, it's people's personalities that make it easier or harder to get a qp. Think about it.

Thats crap.
It would cause more of a flame war if this happened.
Jealousy & the works.
Only certain members can have more of a flood report then others.
People should either have Flood report or not.

I for one think that if you post a certain amount of times total then you should also lose a flood report.
It's hard for most of us to get a QP. You have to be popular to get them easily.
Some have been here for awhile & they never get any QP's.

Maybe after you reply 200-500 times total, you can lose the flood report.

The QP's should def stay. I mentioned the reasons before.
I will say it keeps us following the rules, it makes some of the people work harder.
If there was no stars, it would be chaos in here.
People will break the rules, they will do what they want.
ALl you will need to worry about is if you get banned or not.

Bad Idea all around. Keep it as is unless you want to use my advice on Flood report.

Are you serious? You think every other forum which has no QPs is total chaos? There's always the silencing or ban option for the total lame spammers.
