Will these creatures only available for VCMI?. We all like the VCMI project but we are aware that it is very far of being finished. To be honest, I am very pessimist regarding the AI.
Is it thought to have the buildings/units completely replacing the old unit or will the towns have a HoMM 4 structure where we can choose between two alternatives? Obviusly, we all prefer the second option but it also meets some challenges to pass.

Vcmi is now on 0.97b(1.0 being stable), so it's getting close. As for AI, it's more intelligent now more than ever, yet not finished. And it's not being replaced. But there I could be wrong

The idea of alternatives was one of an early plans of Hota and it was meant to be alternative like heroes IV. As it stayed in a phase of ideas with some early works (satyr at first was alternative for bastion), polish community is making it's own version. The project is being developed for VCMI, but I can't speak for author whether that matter will change in the future.
As Un_notas noted there are going to be some challenges to pass like limited place in town hall, or fitting their dwellings in a original townscreen which is not that easy. Anyway the hardest part will be balancing that content to be alternative, and as the name suggesting: interesting strategic choice depending on map scenario.
For example presented here Illithidi, which is alternative to minotaur, strong infantry unit of dungeon, in a terms of statistics won't be so powerful, but on the other hand it could have interesting ability like hypnosis.
So summarazing the project:
1) Alternative won't replace known units, instead they will be an option to consider.
2) They will have their own dwellings and all what town units should have
3) We will try not to disrupt current balance in power in a serious way.
Although there are a lot of ideas for alternatives resulting in a 3-4 example units per town, the final number is going to be tweaked by overall balance.
Another example of works:
Healer as an alternative for monks casting healing spells on battleground
(by Witchking)
And as for early Hota alternative units, hopefully they will come back as neutrals like satyr did.

Hi
Is anyone having problem with Hill Fort and University?? The game crashes everytime I visit them.
I tried both with WOG mod and without WOG mod. Both items crashes in either mode.

Just checked. University is working fine, Fort crashes game.

Also, anybody experiencing chain lighting behaving not exactly as expected? I played several games where if the enemy is advancing to the middle of the field,and I use CL on the cluster of enemy troops, my own troops get zapped first.

Before working on alternative creatures consider making towns fit for any terrain.
This would require 18 backgrounds(9 town screen and 9 battlefield) for each town[Grass,Dirt,Sand,Snow,Swamp,Rough,Subterranean,Lava and Subterranean Lava(for both underground and lava terrain)] but I think it would be a great addition.

9 battlefields for each town you can find in LORD mod.

This isn't added yet (as far as I know), but you can press the auto-combat while in-game. I know it isn't the same, but this is the best option for now

After an update in Windows 10 beta, the crashes has been less. Don't know what the reason might have been, but at least it's less crash now

Another question - if you save and load again, the stack experience bonus will only retain attack, defence and damage bonus, but any ability bonus go away. Have anyone came across this?
