Quote: Dilemma #6.1
You rape a girl. she becomes pregnant. Do you ask her to marry you?
Depends on the society.
In some I WILL be forced to marry her, in others I will be coerced via society to marry her.
In my current country and most of the "western world"? It would mean that I have broken my own moral code, but nevermind that, that was not the question was it?
I would not ask her to marry me, unless there was some really brutal love going on, which I really doubt.. I would just sit somewhere and cry over it.

Hell yes! It makes legal to rape her everyday!
Seriously: No. I never rape someone. I believe the ways of love.
That's good to know Duke. I would like to point out that I don't rape people either, just in case anybody was thinking to themselves "I bet that dude rapes people".

I cannot get myself to relate to question six at all so i can't give a good answer.
Depends a lot on what high probability is. 1/5 probably not abort. snow luck is snow luck.

Sorry, doesn't work that way. raping your wife is still rape and gets you jailed.

Dilemma #6
You and your spouse have tried for years to get pregnant. Finally the good news comes - you are expecting your first child. Unfortunately, very early on your doctor tells you that your baby has a very high probability of having Downs Syndrome. He tells you that it's not too late to have an abortion.
What do you do?
Have the child of course. There can be no moral justification for killing a child merely because he has a disease.
Oh, and doctors have certainly been wrong before. But if not:

Quote:
A Dozen Things I Wish My Doctor Had Told Me When I Learned My Child Had Down Syndrome
Written by Parents of New Directions
1. I wish my doctor had said, "Your child has Down syndrome; she is not a 'Down's baby' or 'one of those kids.' Your child will have his/her own unique personality, strengths, and needs. Down syndrome is only a small part of who he/she is. Doctors can help parents realize their child is a baby first.
2. I wish my doctor had told me that my child had Down syndrome when my spouse was present. The only thing harder than finding out your child has Down syndrome is having to tell your spouse.
3. I wish my doctor had told me that the genetic information my child had inherited was not defective, not abnormal – just a little more than "typical" kids. The chromosome information needs to be explained in a way that helps the family realize that the child will inherit and share the physical characteristics of his/her family, as well as some characteristics associated with Down syndrome.
4. I wish my doctor had told me all the things people with Down syndrome can accomplish, rather than all the things that may be delayed. Parents have a lifetime to find out their child's ability. It is not necessary to tell them every possible limitation – especially when limitations aren't even known -- when the child is only a few days old.
5. I wish my doctor had told me not to read anything about Down syndrome more than 10 years old. The reality for people with Down syndrome is not the same as it was even 10 years ago. Early intervention, inclusion, medical advances, and today's opportunities really do make a difference for people with Down syndrome.
6. I wish my doctor had told us, as parents, that we could do this, and that we wouldn't have to do it on our own. Therapists, teachers, social workers, and medical professionals are available to help. Doctors can help parents find the assistance available in their area.
7. I wish my doctor had told us that we would grow, stretch, become better people – more kind, more tolerant, fighters for justice, stronger, braver, deeper in our faith – all as gradual changes through the ups and downs of raising a child with a disability.
8. I wish my doctor had told me that the little bundle I was holding would bring me lower lows but higher highs than I had ever experienced.
9. I wish my doctor had reminded me on a regular basis not to focus only on developmental milestones, stimulation, therapies, and making every moment a teaching moment. Parents need to take time to just enjoy their child.
10. I wish my doctor had told me that parenting itself is very difficult. Kids can be a challenge to raise. Every struggle is not because of Down syndrome, but rather a natural part of the parenting experience.
11. I wish my doctor had told us that we weren't alone. There are other parents that have been through the same experience and who are willing to help other parents adjust to the birth and parenting of a child with Down syndrome.
12. I wish my doctor had referred me to a group like New Directions Down Syndrome Association.

You certainly have no clue what does those syndroms means, have you? Cut out your limbs and live. Because there's no justifications for killing you just because you can't live anymore.
I accept your beliefs but such syndroms are way more over any religious consideration. Doom someone for a life-long suffering is evil by any religious standards.
I know what I'm saying 'cause I borned with an autoimmun disease. Everyone decided to let me live but my life was a painfull suffering. You can't understand that! You don't know how it feels!
I accept your beliefs but without such experiences noone may decide wether is it good or evil to kill someone who will obviously suffer in it's entire life, what is equal with torture! Or torture is justificated?
EDIT:
Down syndrome is just one and the most easy syndrome. Remember this! It was good for an example 'cause everyoneheard about it but to made the dilemma harder there are dozens of more serious syndromes...

That's pretty common for people calling themselves "Christians" to consider something good or evil while being completely ignorant of what the thing really is. I'm a Christian myself, actually, but I'm really tired of all this "it's WRONG" nonsense. Zealots that i.e. swarm over a raped girl that got pregnant and call her evil for having an abortion should really have the courtesy to shut up.

Also, as JJ remarked earlier, this thread is not dedicated to finding any universal moral truths. This thread is to talk about what you, personally, would do in the situations described - not to pontificate on what you believe other people are required to do.

Dilemma #7
For our next dilemma, we will revert to a classic:
A trolley is running out of control down a track. In its path are five people who have been tied to the track by a villain. Fortunately, you could flip a switch, which will lead the trolley down a different track to safety. Unfortunately, there is a single person tied to that track. Should you flip the switch or do nothing?
Thoughts?

And kill a hundred people?
If I'm in the building with all the little flippy switches, then I think that I have a radio too, right? Well then, I radio the train, have it apply the brakes and send it down the track with only one person on it since, statistically speaking, that one person should be far enough away from the turning point for the train to come to a complete stop.
But if the train driver is just an idiot who didn't turn on his radio/ is listening to his gods damned ipod/ is Blizzard Boy, then I send them down the track with only one person.
