Really? What is so much better than in F3, the only thing I really found was that it has scopes but a mod for fallout 3 adds this...

Hmm... I think it's just all around better. Can't really point to any specifics since they're still very similar, but I enjoyed the story a lot more at least.

Fallout:NV is related to Fallout 1-2 in story and background.
Fallout 3 is just ridiculously anti-canon.
If you care for fallout world, you can't just play a game that has nothing to do with its predecessors bar the name and poorly executed reference points.

Plus, NV actually can be called a Fallout game, unlike Fallout 3. Considering Bethesda's legacy*, Obsidian managed to salvage pretty much everything which was salvageable.
*There are dread rumours that they managed to get their hands on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise which I hope for all decency left in the lord are not true.

Personally, though New Vegas has similar/identical graphics and physics to FO3, it offers a completely different experience and environment, FO3 is better for the post apocalyptic atmosphere and 'survival', while New Vegas is the true "Fallout 3".
I managed to buy the Game of the year Edition for NV during the steam bargain, downloaded some monster mods (spawns lvl 20 badasses while you are lvl 1, so damn good)
So my marine is good to go.

I think I'm going to buy FO3 because i haven't played one of the original Fallouts so I don't care about how much it fits into the universe and I like the post apocalyptic theme more than the cowboyish one of New Vegas.

What the hell, must be some mistake, I swear that I bought FO3 GOTYE during the steam sale. 
This has to be one of the sexiest mods for both skyrim and NV. (different monsters though)

Ahh so Tsar is one of those people. 
Cool, I have always wondered what a person that add mods that don't fit to a game is like. 
Btw, While NV certainly is a lot better then FO3, FO3 has I think a better atmosphere. Pretty what you say, with the apocalyptic feel.

My pwotoss dude, just ignore the marine behind me, dismissed him since he makes too much bloody noise, the invisibility when sneaking is a juicy touch, can still see outlines, so perfect.

There's this awesome mod that I have yet to try extensively, where you can build your own town, with citizens et cetera. also Farming is included in an external mod.

Found this one on nexus, too. So this really is no overhaul? It'll be my first playthrough so i don't wanna change everything directly 
EDIT what about a world of pain? have you tried that?

It's an overhaul yeah. Improves every aspect of the game seamlessly, integrates perfectly into the gameplay.
A World of Pain is great too, but I'd recommend that for a second playthrough. It's pretty hardcore.
Both great mods. NV in itself is pretty great and doesn't actually require any mods immediately.
For your first playthrough... just lean back and enjoy the ride imo. Save the mods for later

There are no good overhaul mods.
EDIT: Ad, THERE ARE NO GOOD OVERHAUL MODS
and project nevada doesn't count because reasons.
