It's still a static image though.
Would've been nice if at least the clouds were moving or something.

I'm for town screens 100%. There is not one half decent reason to use windows. Absolutely none. Using windows shows only laziness or total lack of understanding what is this game all about.

@DarkLord, oh I'm pretty sure that town screen(window.. sorry) will be in form of the big one.
Unless the monitor they have in Xerox's picture is really small...

People, remember that This screenshot is bloody PRE-ALPHA DEMO BUILD FOOTAGE so even if they are implementing them as an overlaying window it won't look like THAT, that screenshot is NOT representative of the final product.
Or atleast that's what they said.
We badly need an actual screenshot of how they plan to implement this, people will hate that too probably but at least they'll know what they're hating!

The old Town Screens were nice but they really are past. Now the town are 3D and rotating and stuff and they are awesome in there way. If you want some of the old Heroes magic you just have to play an old game. The previous Town Screens have no place in Heroes VI.

Good point, it was pre-alpha testing phase and they did mention that the town window will change and that this was just to fit in to be able for players to test other areas of the game....

The new town window or town screen is going to be 2D, or at least a fixed perspective, that's what the devs said.

Man i know it's pre-alpha! and i know it's not the final product, that's why i put " " face, ..
BUT this screenshot gives an approximate idea of what to expect.. and it is not going to be a full screen, they may change interface, expand window a bit.. but anyways .. it's not going to be the same full screen...

No, it doesn't give us any idea of what to expect, at most it gives us an idea of the dimensions the town-window could have.
The smiley, as read hints at the admittedly funny quip about size mattering, not that the screenshot was not representative of the final product.
If you're going to post a picture like that without the disclaimer it's going to stirr up another panic over something which has not been proven to be any accurate representation of what the final thing will look like.
TLDR: Add disclaimers to screenshots which can otherwise cause a lot of trouble!

@ Intelligence - they are going to change it to full screen, right?
... well actually NO !!! and that's what's thread about!!!
@ MrDragon -
well.. what can i say.. fair enough.. next time i post a picture will try to be more accurate..
--- so i posted 2 pictures of Necro-town
1st one (bigger resolution) representing the full screen
2d one (low res.) "window".. to give a visual example of what we should expect if the towns are not full screen
3d image (from beta) showing exactly the size of town screen window in case dev's wouldn't expand it..
in the end i summarise that it was about "size" of the town screen..
not the way it will be represented..
hope this clarifies...

I appreciate DarkLord's initiative about town screens/windows. But Ubi never cares about the opinion of the fans.
I really hope that the posted Necropolis pictures from Xerox and DarkLord won't be in the final game. The viewpoint is awful (too low). Also these 'towns' aren't actually towns. I want to see towns/cities with castles like previous games. As I said in other thread, the Haven town looks like a church, Necro like a pharaoh's tomb, Stronghold like a gipsy camp, Inferno like some floating rock. This statement is based on the adventure map town objects but in Igromir video the outside town and inside (town window) are same.
Let's hope that they'll make us happy with good inside towns and bigger windows even though 2D.

I think the town image will have at least the same size of the first picture DarkLord posted.
Someone on the other thread said a good reason to have this this way, to prevent the image of having a worse quality due to resizing it.
Personally, I don't care if it is a window or full screen. I'm more worried that if a Castle will occupy this much of the image, how will the other buidings look like.

I think the Stronghold Town-Siege screenshot is the closest we've come to seeing how they might protray a town in HoMMVI, the above screenshot of the Necropolis ziggurat structure doesn't seem like it's framed in a way to accomodate many structures and features beyond the ziggurat itself.
Considering it's basically a piece of concept art, I'd say we don't have a lot to fear in that respect, I myself am expecting the actual visuals to be closer in style to HoMMIII.

From the official forum I got this picture apparently made by Cepheus to show how the current Town window would look like:
Maybe he could comment if this is still the case?
I hear again and again that we need to wait and see how the final product will look like, but official statements have several times already confirmed that it will be a window, and not a full screen. There is no doubt about that. We could argue if the window will be large or small, but nevertheless they are planning a window, and that's what we're objecting to. Things like building the town will be only through a menu, town-pictures not being interactive and staying the same when you build new buildings (which also seem to be pretty much confirmed) are important issues, but not as important as the window-issue. If you get my point..?

That example made by Cepheus looks fine to me. I just hope they put a lot of effort into making the town's picture (and the associated buildings) look great.

From the latest interview:
"Max: - You talked about the ability to see your buildings in full screen as they are built, and it's true that this is removed. We know that this was popular among the players, but how annoying isn't it with a seconds long pause every time you build something? After a couple of missions you're fed up. You can still see an accurate representation of your city in the new, smaller menu. At the same time some of the buildings, among other the unique ones, are shown on the world map so that other players can actually learn about your bases by seeing them."
There has never been indicated even once from the devs that we will have a dynamic town-window. We will have a small manu displaying the structures (like in H5) and the town will change on the world map. But so far not a single indication has been given to the fact that the concept art will change as you build new buildings. Actually Max in this interview confirms that this is removed. You don't need more room for other buildings, because you won't see them in the town-window you'll see them in the menu and the adventure map only!
I, like yourself, want the concept art to be similar to the one in H3, that would actually be awesome! But so far all the statements and screenshots do not point in that direction...
