So, my email has been blowing up with replies, so I suspected that that meant they've finally added town screens.
I come here, and it's just a town screen preview. Close enough, I suppose. It's nice that they're making progress, but like I said, I'm not buying the game until the town screens go live. And if they wait for an expansion as another user suggested, that won't do, either. Has to be the retail game, so if I have to wait for the whole package to come down in price, I will.
I will withhold my aesthetic judgments as I have yet to play the game, and townscreens are supposed to fit within the theme of the game. A still shot tells me very little without actually playing the faction or hearing the music.
I can say that I'm disappointed that I won't get my HoMM5 full-3D, rotating camera castle town. The H5 town screens was the culmination of over a decade of Heroes of Might and Magic. Just goes to show that the lack of town screens in Heroes 6 is due to a lack of vision, and Ubisoft might just be cashing in on dedicated Heroes fans. In other words, its a lot harder than it looks, and they probably didn't realize that until they were knee-deep in the development of the game.
Indeed, as someone else said, it's not Heroes until the town screens are put in. From the days of playing Heroes 2, an important part of the game was seeing your bare-bones castle develop turn after turn after turn into greatness.

Quote: If anything, the town screens reminds me more of H4 than H3.
They haven't exactly gone out of their way to integrate the buildings into the environment.
That motherbreederwhatever blob of a dwelling just scream wasted potential.
Again, I actually like it. It was a nice way to link the breeder description with her dwelling

If all goes well, you won't be waiting too long. They are supposed to go live in tommorow's patch.

My point is that it's just a building, just like all the others.
In H4, the Venom Spawn structure kind of looked like the generated creature too,
in addition to being fused with the environment.
I miss venom spawns
EDIT: Oh, I get it now!
The Breeder structure is supposed to be a giant breeder, right?
If so, it had better be fully animated
EDIT EDIT: Along with the floating islands and volcanic erruptions

Agreed, with the animations and music, let's see how immersed we feel when we enter the town screen.....tomorrow!

Interestingly enough, Heroes VI is on sale for $25 right now. Ubisoft has 24 hours for this patch to go live.

Ooohh... the combination of town screen and music really, really hooked me! I am a very much pleased man! Even Haven's screen which I rated very low is look good in-game. Add that tiny button to hide all UI, and I can enjoy my Heroes' sensation. Well done, Ubimbic!
Now, give me my Elves, and I will forget past dissatisfaction with H6.

I mainly agree with you here! The game is really getting good and it certainly gets my hopes up for the future of this installment. But I will never blind buy another Ubisoft Heroes game ever. I will never forget how pathetically buggy and unfinished H5 and especially H6 were at release.
How the saying goes... fooled me once, shame on you, fooled me twice, shame on me... well, this stops at Heroes 6, you won't fool me a 3rd time Ubisoft!

So are the scale and perspective issues still glaringly obvious?

I did not find that there were any glaringly obvious issues with the town screens. Rather, I was quite pleased by them. I suppose it's all subjective though. It doesn't feel reminiscent of HOMM III, in my opinion, and I know that turns some people off.

I find the scaling problem is less than previous screen shots. I don't know whether this is because Ubimbic change some buildings' size or because of the music
But perspective issues, yeah, they are still present, especially in Haven.

Yes, especially versions 1.0 to 1.4 and 2.0, where you can't play Dwarves on maps because someone didn't update them in editor for new content.
HV was solid as quicksands.

So far I have only managed to check the haven screen and I'm liking it so far I agree that it goes well with the music. I'm generally happy with the look of the new townscreens for each faction...my fav is sanctuary and least fav is stronghold. Really appreciated limbic's effort on this.
One small irk I do have is with the haven fort screen as it looked very rushed. Details on the top ornament for example, looked like they're scribbled on. Side towers looked bloated somehow as they're not drawn vertically straight. I know it's not much but if they polish it in the next patches it will bring up the overall quality of the new artworks. I'm an illustrator myself and if i have the time i would love to rework that myself but I'm just way too busy

I like the town screens too, everything is cool, just think the actual buildings can be a little smaller to accommodate the vast background (esp orc and demon).

We better get a Sylvan town and it better have fairies/sprites/pixies, for the trend sake, mind you.
