Quote: I just compared two screenshots of Haven against each other using Acid Cave slide-show functionality. The buildings on each of them have slightly different positions, which means this can't be a final version. Hard to imagine structures moving around as we build them.

I still have words in mind like:
Quote: Town screens are one of Heroes’ game-core pillars. In each Heroes game, they are there to enchant the players while making the management of their magical Empire more enjoyable. Thanks to fan, player and journalist feedback on this subject, we are now providing a favorite feature of past Heroes games, adding beautifully animated Town Screens, tailored specifically to the expectations of Might & Magic fans.

At least now, they look better than H4's town screens. But that doesn't say much about them.
I hope this is not the fully built Haven town screen, it's too empty. The Necropolis looks kinda nice, but Stronghold doesn't seem like a place where Orcs and Goblins and other such barbaric creatures dwell in.

Apparently, that wasn't the fully built Haven town (but rather semi built).

I would say, it looks pretty good... but I can't shake the feeling, I am looking at multiple leaning towers of Pisa...

Now the building placement looks even more random, especially with that big blocky building that appeared behind the marketplace-like site next to the gatehouse. You enter the town and the first thing you see is a huge box of stone hiding pretty much everything that might be behind it. If it's a military dwelling, it's successfully using several street-stalls as a shield. Seirously, the Heroes IV Asylum looked more organized!

The building closest to the viewer is the tower-like structure.
THEN the main building, THEN the building behind the market place.
It's like I'm looking at several optical illusions at once.

It looks much less empty with all buildings, but I do agree that the big cathedral like structure seems incredibly unlikely placed in terms of general town layout. One would think that the platform with the small houses would have been better in this location, with the cathedral turned 180 degrees and placed behind that one, but what do I know.
Can't wait to see the sanctuary one, I have very high hopes for that one!

I have to agree, unfortunately. They don't feel like towns. They feel like military camps that have been set up in a hurry. You'd expect Haven at least, to have more houses scattered around. Kinda like 3 and 5.

I think those townscreens are reflections of the whole game – good idea, bad execution.
Haven
The Haven scale is totally messed up. If you look at the building (I guess is dwelling for Sentinel/Praetorian) right to the marketplace you’ll see it’s too small. If it’s a normal building then the stairs in front of the City Hall/Capitol are gigantic and people should be alpinists to climb them (compare the door of building’s top dome and the stairs). The marketplace also is too big. The alleys/streets are too small.
It seems architects have been gathered all over the Ashan world. The main architectural concept is not the same for all buildings. Almost all buildings have an oval shape and some of them have domes. The building on the left, just behind the big tower, has different design (from different period ) and a pyramidal roof. The building, which least fits on the image, is behind the marketplace. Simple and insipid building (a box and 2 towers) which doesn’t fit to the general plan in any way.
The building at far right is more like a monastery than a stable. Actually at first I thought that is dwelling for Sisters but after that I saw the horses on the portal and realized that’s Sun Riders’ dwelling.
All of the above, the thing that doesn’t look like a town/city, randomness of the building places and the poor performance of the shadows give us that feeling of artificiality and distorted reality.
Necropolis
I agree with others who said that is too greenish and the prospect is too close to city, you have the feeling that can’t rake the entire city. The scale seems ok here. I don’t like the Sumerian/Egyptian concept for Necropolis so won’t comment the architecture; it’s all about a taste.
Stronghold
They have to fix the reflection that Avirosb noticed. Basically, it is the “city” that I most like though doesn’t look like a town/city at all. It looks like some indian mountain village in South America.
All 3 townscreens don’t look like towns/cities. Haven case reminds me of summer villa or so of some king or lord. Maybe if there are more houses (as kodial79 said) and paved areas when the city is full developed will look more urban.
On the other hand, only H5’s cities look big enough like cities. In H3 they look like small settlements with castles. So I guess the only problems are the glitches – shadows, reflections, prospect, scale, architectural fitting and building places.

I agree with the pll that they could improve it a bit and fix some points. But man, we can get a rid of those f****** town windows.

The Sanctuary town screen looks nice. But, to my mind, the previous version of its Town Hall is better than the new one.

There's one "we don't know what to put there" spot on the right but other than that it's the best town screen so far and it actually looks like one.

PD: I don't like the two caves of the complete townscreen (seems unnatural to me comparing with the basic version), but the rest is fine and great.
