Agreed. Bach was a genius but to me Mozart is the best, because everything is so simple, "simple" in the way that it requires an extreme complex understanding of everything to make sound the most innocent notes so perfect just by the writing already, hence one of the most difficult composers to interpret imo. Each time I studied his piano pieces, I found myself thinking, everything is so patently obvious, so perfect, like anyone could have come up with, but only one could do it.
Regarding the Requiem, Karajan's version is of course very good, but to me Harnoncourt's version is superior to any other, his approach is so unique, perfect example of taking risks and succeeding, as Horowitz did for the piano works.

I often link Karajan versions because they are a very well guided introduction to classical music, due to intelligent camera focus and Karajan's particular staging, almost a musical analysis translated to visual analysis. Then for people who know already what they listen, there are, of course, so many good interpreters out.

Syd Barrett to be subject of new play by Scottish playwright
Link
The Barrett play is called One Thinks of It All As a Dream and will premiere at Glasgow's Oran Mor in October, before touring to the Traverse in Edinburgh and the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen.
Bissett, whose books include Boy Racers, Death of a Ladies’ Man and Pack Men, and whose plays include The Moira Monologues and The Pure, the Dead and the Brilliant, said it will not be a play about drug use but a look at a talented musician and the influences and pressures on his mind and music.
"At the centre of it is a man in pain," he said.
He added: "Syd Barrett is unique in rock n roll history, and certainly haunted Pink Floyd's music after he left.
"There's no figure quite like him - which is itself attractive to a dramatist - but I also wanted to explore his multi-faceted character.
"He was by turns charismatic, selfish, principled and vulnerable.
"The legend of 'Mad Syd' has been enshrined in rock lore, but I wanted to get past the acid-casualty cliches to try and find the man beneath, in all his complexity."
Bissett said the four-person play could contain live music or Pink Floyd recordings but "will not be a rock musical".
While I can't say I prefer his songs to later Pink Floyd, I can't deny that I really enjoy them when I'm in the mood. He was crazy, but also a great talent.

Probably as far from the reality than in the movie.
I am very difficult with Wagner's interpretations, Furtwängler breathes it perfectly imo.

The origin of the name of the band "PINK FLOYD" : Syd came up with it.
Syd Barrett came up with the band's name by juxtaposing the first names of Floyd Council, an American blues guitarist from Chapel Hill, NC, and South Carolina bluesman Pink Anderson. He noticed the names in the liner notes of a 1962 Blind Boy Fuller LP.
Also, his real name was Roger Keith Barrett, Syd a nickname, but good thing, because they had Roger Waters also.
And Gilmour was a replacement...and at the same time he wasn't. For a brief time, all five: R. Wright, D. Gilmour, R. Waters, N. Mason and Syd Barrett were Pink Floyd.
A Saucerful of Secrets was their second studio album, and also the first for David and the last for Syd as part of the band.

Lately i've appreciated to listen to the music of Hans zimmer, it's often just instrumental which is good background music while working.
I like a lot of music, but overall I think what todays pop stations broadcast is pure crap. I've been born in the wrong age music wise

I don't care for Mr. Zimmer's Batman film scores but I like some others, like Rain Man or his contributing work to Pirates of the Carribean.
And as for other composers of film soundtracks, well: John Williams, Danny Elfman, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, Bill Conti, Elliot Goldenthal, James Horner, Leonard Rosenman are some I enjoy.
