The AI isn't composing, actually. It's just combining stuff in endless variations and permutations.
AIs cannot CREATE in the sense the word actually has. They can only take what is there and combine things the way their procedures tell them to, in a methodical way.
In a way it's like letting a gazillion apes hammer away on typewriters, only with a basic program that allows what's possible. Like with a GPS destination input. My GPS allows only the letters to pick which actually lead to something, once you have started the input. With that kind of typewriters the apes will actually produce words. Another restriction programm that allows only certain words in certain positions of a sentence, and the apes are starting to make sense.
I mean - it's not an INTELLIGENCE in the sense that there is reflection on what it's actually doing. it's virtually mindless, and every impression of mindfulness is just the AI's creator's idea of how things should look/sound.
You know, the ability of the AI to write something that could be the work of an artist, isn't actually an ability of something called "AI". It's the ability of the programmer to combine his musical abilities with the capabilities of computer technology. What artu describes, isn't the work of the AI - it's Cope's work.

That's basically the definition of composing, combining stuff together.
I do agree with your viewpoint in general though.

You can also say we are combining stuff. I mean, if you dont presume some super-natural muse behind it, our brain is also combining stuff when creaitng, only not always in an analytical fashion.

Terrible. They take whole parts from know nocturnes then awkwardly juxtapose them, after initial cheat of choosing the H minor tonality, which we know was the dearest to Chopin. I understand you like it, you listened as much as I listen music in elevators, when going to parking. And it sounds nice, for the 10 seconds or so.
However, an artwork essence is what's about, not how is done.
Let's clean this by making justice to Chopin, Regina Smedzianska in what I consider the most beautiful classical-romantic page ever written. And nobody plays it like her

Yes, I remember this one, I even searched for the cd but unfortunately there is none, even iTunes music store only has her playing the Waltzes and so on. But the concerto was only released as an LP I guess.

But not mindlessly. I mean, the classical music we now talk about is a bit restricted - the instruments, the form and so on, very specific things - an OPERA or even a symphony would be something else entirely.
But just look at what the Beatles did (and look at what happens when you combine them with George Martin). The creative ideas that permanently expand the universe of known music-for-entertainment. Tape loops, backwards running tapes, everyday sounds (like honking cars), an amazing array of different instruments in unusual roles ...
THAT is what makes The Beatles - not 3 voice harmony vocals in connection with the odd catchy tune.
Phrased differently - why would we stop and listen to some "variations on Chopin nocturnes" created by some human via a computer program, when there is so much new stuff happening every day?
I mean, I'm massively into Jimi Hendrix - but he's dead, and we'll never know what he would have come up with had he lived longer. An AI creating stuff sounding like Hendrix? Come on. You might just as well listen to this (which is actually not uninteresting - but it's not new Hendrix).

Well, they are not mutually exclusive, you can listen to both. I’’m not close to the idea that art may not stay exclusively human forever.
I mean, primitive life was mindless, then we had minds, then we had “theory of mind” and self-awareness, so we had art. As I said in the previous page, the real question would be, can AI go through such evolution without the biochemical urges that triggered the process in the first place? And another question would be, should it necessarily follow a human-like progress for us to call its output art. There were times after all, that art was not seen as something that had to be unique or self-expressive. Before the Romantic period, the artist was seen more like a craftsman or a vessel. “Artistic” work was religious ritual (cave paintings), praise to some monarch, a vase for decoration, simple entertainment… So why not AI based art couldnt be art…

Oh, I don't think that art will stay human forever wither.
But the AIs as we know them have no "mind" - they actually are named somewhat wrongly. They do what they are told, so-to-speak.
A REAL artificial intelligence would be something else, of course.

My city's philharmonic orchestra had a concert dedicated to video game music a few years back. They played, among other amazing pieces, some HoMM4 themes.

P.S. As I'm a huge fan of HoMM 3 - Haiduk's 2018 song title 'Blood Ripple' is actually inspired by the HoMM 3 spell 'Death Ripple'
