Completely agree with you there. I wrote almost exact same thing that I would like to see Zombies/Mummies/Ghouls instead of bland Spiders. Even if we have to accept Spiders, make them Necromantic creations made of Bones and Flesh, not just bland giant Spiders...
About design, I like Skeleton a lot actually, it reminds me of H5 second upgrade(with more details of course) and I like a bit of purple a lot more than being overdone with green. Spikes seriously aren't as bad as people are making them out to be.
Ghosts are ok, thing I dislike is that upgraded version is called Banshee(which is supposed to be something really strong in other Ubi games that are happening in Ashan universe, for example in H5 they are second upgrade for Wights, tier 6 unit and they are among deadliest units in Duel of Champions).

I wonder if the surprise they mentioned was actually supposed to be the spider? If so, then that's a major dissapoitment. I hope they meant an elite or champion creature.

I have my doubts about that. With the whole spider-cult thing, Spiders are hardly surprising.

@Sandro400: I do think the spiders will be undead for two reasons: The upgrade is called 'Death Spider' (I do hope they will change this name, as it reminds me of 'Magic Bird') and they are thought to evolve into Namtarus, which were undead creatures.
@RMZ1989: I agree with you for the most part. Although I think the spiders are decent but not great. The alternate upgrade from Heroes 5 was also the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Skeleton's design. I agree, the Banshee needs a name change like the 'Death Spider'.

Actually, we had such Spider in H6 playing the role of catapult like many mentioned here. Was it hard to imagine some Spectral or elselike Spider? Hell, even Moonsilk Spiders will fit.
I understand that in DoC you can have a vast array of creatures and even include living units in it (like Spiders or Eternal branch). But in Heroes, where each slot is priceless, they wasted it on bland Spider...
I don't like uncostructive criticism, but here I really can't say anymore than "I just don't like it, it's not Necro". At least make them Undead Spiders.
I would say that those spikes are here for a purpose really. They're intended to scare enemy troops. So yeah, such armor on elite skeleton is welcome.
H5's Banshee is likely non-common (and non-canon  ) or extra powerful specie, but regarding DoC and H7, it makes sense somehow. In DoC they're so powerful because of their ability to instantly kill 95% of creatures and by themselves they're very weak. While in heroes, insta killing a unit is not a big deal anyway (Banshee can have something like Ghost Wail which kills X units near it). Insta killing a stack, on the other hand...

Well, imho unit names worth nothing in this regard (they can name them as they like and don't make them Undead, like, well, not all Death Knights are Undead). About evolving to Namtaru - yes, there I can agree, though their "blessing" is just a theory, nothing more.
I want official confirmation of their Undead status. Really.

I don't think that they have to be undead, after all they are kinda worshiped. So they can be useful also living. You know what will be awesome? If when resurrecting the dead is casted upon them, they are resurrected undead and get a decayed or rotten model given to them....how i wish. Maybe it can be a necro trait, to resurrect a dead stack(both friendly and enemy) to their side...undead elven warriors...ohh how i wish...

I don't agree about spiders, but I wished for Undead version of almost all units for a long time now. It's very unlikely to happen, but we can dream about it...

No-no, what I meant it that they have ALREADY created such a spider before but now they're using casual version. I know that you know this, I've seen your post 
Simple recoloring like many of HC members did would fit. Not so hard I guess.

h6 v2.0 all over the place.
nice champions but we want skeletal or mummyfied liches. thats clear as day, so why still insisting on vampire liches? its ugly and its not looking good. its damn ugly.
im so angry right now. good job devs.

The only good news regarding Elites is that they're also not tainted in just neon toxic green color like H6.

In just a few words:
I am disappointed by the elite tier. Liches and Vamps are plainly H6 versions, Lamassu-H6's total failure- is back. 
As for champs, I never liked Bone Dragon nor do I like it now.I'd prefered the Spinners...
"Dreadwraith Reaperknights" is a bit of a compensation, though...
I'm not gonna sleep tonight, due to the overwhelming thought:"why Lamassus again..."

Huh. I'm legitimately surprised that the Lamasu is returning. I was absolutely certain that they'd have run out of Lamasu corpses by the end of the Second Eclipse, or at least the Third. Huh... well, now I just feel silly.
Well, aside from that, I'm not wholly against what we've gotten. Personally, I think the green look suits the vampire more, but the purple doesn't look terrible to me. As for the lich, any incrimental update is an improvement from last time.
Mixed on the bone dragon. On the one hand, happy to see them return, but on the other hand, the model they've provided looks... off.
As for the Grim Rider... ALL OF MY YES!
