I reached into my outfit and pulled out a medallion.
"There is nothing else I've heard the people say about their leader or motives for traveling so far. However, there's this", I said as I placed the medallion on the table, "Don't ask me how I got it, I just have my way."
A moment of silence ensued and then I continued "Gold... Solid gold, excellent condition, fine craftmanship. This one here is said to have been found on a fallen Ogre's corpse. What's interesting, though, is this engraving on it -THE GOBLET IS OURS-"
I passed the medallion to Dragomir "This is not a simple coincidence here, Drago. This medallion is way to elaborate to be a prank on us. Somebody may be trying to hinder us on our quest; somebody very powerful."

- I concur.- Dragomir said.- We can't just assume things based on petty trinkets. Ogres or not. Halfman!- Drago called out for the wizard.
The tiny mage came by, leaning on his staff.
- You called ser?
- Aye. this gold trinket. Examine it
- Another one? I just finished decrypting the last one you found.
- What about it?
- An Amat Clan toy. enchanted by some aspirant who's hands grow out of his arse appearantly. the enchantment's nice, meant to protect the wearer from physical harm. problem is, the effect pops up at random, no way to control it. This thing though...- he took a good look at the amulet Zet brought. He tapped it with his staff and murmured a simple spell on it. The amulet glowed, as it lifted up in the air, was hovering in the air for a few seconds, then dropped on the ground like a sack of rocks.
- Well..? Dragomir asked. Halfman never revealed what he learned in Zanaris. He was a walking mystery even to the other fellow wizards of the company, of whom only Blackbird had remained alive.
- It has no magic properties whatsoever. the maker was killed, right after completing it, along with the rest of the batch. the man who ordered them is a rogue mage of Agnirri clan, who turned to teachings of Onshall clan. That's all I can get out of this small trinket now.

- No.- Halfman replied.- unless I have more of them. The wizard's face that the scrying revealed seemed familiar to me. I even know his true name if he's the right one.- Revealing the mage's name during a confrontation with him or her was the most powerful weapon against spellweavers fully devoted to arcane arts.

With John securily holding his weapon Magnus was able to fit the metal pieces without much problems. A few moments later all the rivets were in place and John's improved club was ready to use.
- Tis thing be all and done partner.- you could sense a lot of pride in the Dwarf's voice.- I saw a bunch o' trainin dummies by our camp, I'm pretty sure the guardsmen won't mind if ye give a swing or two.

- oh? Right. There are some fortifications which are unmanned, but they are relics from the Succesion Wars. In short they are unusable. Besides there are none of them in the area which you say is infested by ogres.- he said with a light pause.

I got up and took the map, folded it and put it back into my pocket.
"That medallion... Keep it. Hide it somewhere safe", I said to Dragomir, "We should do some brainstorming and figure out a way we can fight these Ogres on the open field. Or go to sleep. That works for me as well."

- I see what I can get out of Lord Raddwil in the morning.- Dragomir said.- I still do not think it's wise to go headlong against them in the open. perhaps we can scatter them, and pick them off from afar.- He looked at Elena.
- We still haul that hwacha around.- Dragomir noted. The company has been reluctant to get rid of this siege engine, as well as a bronze cannon they had, even though Magnus requested to melt it down a few times.- it could prove useful. can you fashion projectiles to that Kythayan contraption, Elena?- He asked her.- I'm sure we can find the things you need for them.

"I could do that. Will need some more powder and large casings though, the ones we have are too small. Better to draw them out and then ambushing them with ranged fire as well. Fighting Ogres in the open is suicide."

- Precisely. Although what I heard from Magnus, is that their clan used to trap the marching ogre bands in the mountain passes using black powder charges. the numbskulls fell for it every time. But we don't have that advantage here.- Dragomir said.- Halfman, take this garbage- He pointed at the amulet- and keep it safely locked down.
The tiny wizard nodded.
- It will be done. I just want to see Francis to give him his trinket back.- He said and took the amulet. Dragomir nodded in agreement and started issuing orders for the rest.
- Zet, your task is simple. Gather what else is to it. go to the villages neighbouring Navgrod if you have to. if your sticky paws gets across any more of those trinket's be sure to bring them to Halfman as soon as you possibly can. I know I can trust you in being discreet. Elena, gather what materials you can for the projectiles. Enlist the help of the captain of the guard, the fellows are loyal to House Raddwil and respected late Kristoph, they should help us. GEt Mikolaj along, he's bound to be of use.- Drago paused to have a drink from his horn.
- Isabella, You told me you're an able poison maker. do we have something in our stores from which you can make up a concoction to help us reduce the ogre fighting capability? anything will do, from hallucinations to paralysis. anything which won't make them able to fight us.

"Thank you, Magnus" John bowed his head slightly, "it looks remarkable. I'll go and see how it feels right away."
He nodded at the blacksmith on his way out and made his way to the training area next to the camp. The guards readily let him in and called some of their friends as well. It wasn't often they got to see a half-giant fight or even train.
John approached the nearest dummy. It was beaten, but sturdy old thing - a wooden pole with a helmet a suit of armor fitted onto it. He hefted the club in his hands. It was heavier and the spikes meant he had to handle it with more care. He made a couple of experimental swings through the air to get used to the added weight. Then he raised the weapon above his shoulder paused for a moment and swung at the dummy's head. It was not a particularly strong swing. All it was meant to do was rattle the dummy a bit. And not long ago it would have done just that. Now, however, the spikes shattered the wooden doll into pieces, sending the helmet flying through the air until it hit a wall right next to one of the bystanders.
There was silence interrupted only, as is customary, by the sound of the metallic helmet slowly spinning on the ground. John gently put down the club and looked around, scratching his head.
"Ummmm..... Sorry?"

"Hey, my paws are not sticky... Wait, hands, I mean hands! But I'll see what I can get done."
I turned around and walked away. The night was bright, way to bright for my liking. This guaranteed next to no sleep for me, which, of course, is horrible.
Seeing that I'm in for a quite a journey, I thought I should relax a bit. I headed into an inn, ordered a room and a bath along with dinner. Surprisingly, the inn was in a good state, unlike the last one where I had rats biting my toes all night.
There were a couple of shady looking fellas here and there, but luckily, they didn't stick for long.

All the while Francis was on his way to the camp, the way was not lit like he would have preferred, so he took a torch with him, he was worried to have to fight some cutthroats, as he was wearing clothes that could solicit an assault, but Francis wasn't carrying anything of value and had a dagger with him, just in case...
The mansion wasn't too far from the campsite, but there was still enough time for Francis to ponder some thoughts he had since he fled his home.
Sometimes he would think of his previous life, but he still preferred this life rather than one with her former fiancee, as she always had a creepy vibe in her, he remembered the time he used to be contested between her and his 4th brother, the thought of that still made him chuckle.
He also remembered how his aunt used to be a kindly lady, while now, she seemed colder than usual, he thought that maybe this was due to her worries regarding him, but that worry seemed to artificial, something strange was happening back home, but he couldn't return, or at least for now...
It was getting a little too late, he would have liked to have a chat with Dragomir, and maybe, if that wouldn't annoyed her, talk with Isabella regarding his worries, especially the ones regarding his former fiancee; he already had to find an excuse to return earlier than the other guests, so as to return to camp and have some time before going to sleep...

- ah, that's alright fella. We needed to make new dummies anyway- said one of the guardsmen to John.- but do be careful please- he said with a smile. The guardsmen were indeed amazed to see a half giant in action even if it was against a bunch of training dummies.

Francis was a bit absent, he was already worried because of his aunt, and then the ogres... "Uuhh, just my aunt, my family's apparently gone crazy, but I'm more willing to believe she's just got too old, she already seemed an old lady when I was a kid... maybe she misses me at the old house of Calandrie, heh..." Francis emitted an awkward laugh "Other than that the banquet was great, the nobles out here are particularly interesting in their ways, you mentioned ogres? Does that mean that I'll have to ditch the armor again? I mean, I'm prepared to fight them, as long as I get to use my Zweihander and pistol, also, about that, my lord, do we have any gunpowder with us right now?" Francis continued a bit stressed, he was sure things got worse as fast as they got better in the morning...
