For me this is basically Heroes 6 Bis, with worst graphics and news ideas that are bad implemented.
This heroes 7 is just lackluster, everything feels so tiedous, graphics, towscreen, battle, adventure map (with no more coulours)...
AND THE SKILLWHEEL WTF!!???
This is basically Heroes 6 skill's feelling.
I try so hard to play the beta 2, i try so hard to love it but i failed badly.
your expectations look too much alike with those h5 lovers. personally im GLAD it doesnt look like h5, those shiny eye candy colorful colors ughhh and i gottaa say, free pick skillwheel is GOOOOOD.
Hmmm... That 'h5 lovers' may sound offensive Free pick skillwheel is the matter of taste, in the end, but to me it limits replayability and makes the game easier. YOu can find the build that you like, and only go for it. With randomness, things are more difficult, and IMO more interesting.
EDIT: Oh, and colours in H7 are so good and without shiny eyecandy that I cannot distinguish ore from shadowwhatever, or steelsomething. Worse yet, I cannot distinguish resources from map decorations without pressing ALT to highlight interactive objects

thats your low creativity.
It really seems tht creeping depends very little on hero class. But, I have played only 2,5 games, so I might've got wrong impression.

says who? to me it resembles of h3's which i love.. only problem, it misses a lot of usefull info, and it needs fix for texts.
I agree with flonembourg. Resembles H3? Hardly. In heroes 3 UI, you could see everything that you need easily and intuitively. In H7, I need 2 seperate windows to see hero inventory and skills (H3, only one). There is no way to see unit properties outside of combat (in H3, you could see them everywhere). UI covers part of town screens (in H3, town screen is above the interface, so you can actually see the town). Minimap is visible it town (why?). Town building cannot be distinguished (in H3 you could clearly see the building that you are about to build). Towns are represented as list of strings above the minimap (in H3 you had icons). The list goes on...

Well the game is all about optimization... Although I stopped boosting my water-magic like half-way because it was so god-like that I could kill anything with it... So I suppose in theory it does give me freedom to choose skills in case I got idiots as opponents who won't build good hero. I still do remember on first beta where I tried play hardest difficulty that I really did have to boost much more aggressively at start, but even then I ended up being almighty god that swiped everything with the flood(read tsunami)! Ultimately this is one of the biggest flaws in the skill-system, you're pre-set to how to build hero before game even starts which eats the re-playability(which is even worse because of so few good heroes). If there was a real opponent or proper AI I probably would've gone ahead with maximizing the water-magic/spell-power. And it's not just limited to this one instance, it works on all walks of life so to speak. Whatever you need to boost, you can do that from a lot of places so you are stuck with going with those places(read skills, spells and abilities + using some specific artifacts if you get them).

Might just be me and my game, but apparently autosaves are so important that they will erase your actual saves to make room. Four hours of play down the drain to let a friend try the game out.

normal saves are not deleted. They should be at the bottom if you have a bunch of auto saves.

I thought so to, but believe me it is gone. Gone gone. So either A. it somehow got corrupted, B. my friend deleted it somehow, or C. the game deleted it.

Can confirm this - my custom save was deleted/removed/whatever by the game client.

As I've stated before, If you have retaliation you should face the attacker before he/she strikes unless the attacked stack is already in combat with someone else, as in already exchanged blows. If you're just moving in to block it should not stop one from turning to face another attacker. It really is a bit to easy to flank right now.

Also, the fact that you can be adjacent to a unit, and then just walk around the unit and attack from behind without either having the unit turn or suffering some attack of opportunity penalty is plain lame.

oakwarrior said: You do realise you just linked to a page which proves that Quantomas' arguments are just as invalid as mine, right?
You can an apply this pattern and it crumbles down the exact same way:
A says P about subject matter S.
A should be trusted about subject matter S.
Therefore, P is correct.
I guess this is a case of "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others"
And to reply to the second part of your post, there's another saying that fits poignantly to game development: the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Everything does not always pan out as it could/should. And you are correct - idealism is there for every party, that's what passion is all about
The difference is that Quantomas never tried to raised the bar into a battle of credentials, nor did he support his arguments by claiming authority.
And that road to hell paved with good intentions had also giant red warning signs on the sideways with the signature of the community and the VIP group. Enough red flagging was done during production. I even remember Elvin and JJ trying to raise awareness by creating threads and commenting on a lot of subjects. There's no excuse.
So damn right.
In a way, H7 is even worse than H6 for the future (haha) of the series - it's pretty clear they aren't learning from the previous mistakes, there's simply no any possible hope left.

Loving most of the beta so far
having more fun with it than any other heroes game so far, even HoMM3
my expectations of it have easily been surpassed, just wish the AI didn't take so long to take his turns
overall I'm excited for launch

I wish I could test this beta more, but I'll be travelling next week. I only played the small map once, my first impressions are very good. Game runs fine on old pc. Zero crashes, only happened when I was trying to click "fight again" option, which (from what I was reading) isn't implemented in this beta.
Got some slow loading too sometimes, but my impression is that it was mostly in the beginning of the map, it got faster later. I liked that you can save/load any time at any place.
The gameplay, I can't talk much, because I played only one map and was/am still learning. But it felt like it's going into a mix of h5/h4/h3 plus some new features. Creatures seems to be more or less distributed in ~5 tiers? Champions got very tough. Ranged units seems to be more fragile, DD spells seems to fry their low hp.
Interesting, noticed the size of battle maps isn't always the same, sometimes it gets bigger (normal battle maps, not sieges). Can't say much about ai, but if it is dumb like some people say, I hope that it get better in the release.
Overall, impressions were good, really good soundtracks.

Very small detail compared to everything but I'm noticing from videos and streams that the creature lineup order does not match the official site. In Dungeon, the 2 elves are the first two units and Minotaur is sixth just like in H6, in Sylvan units 3-5 are elves etc. And of course town screens looked better on the site, they are way too simple, H3 had better ones in 1999!

In a game I played a few days ago, I defeated a stream of enemy Heroes and then suddenly - nothing. For more than a week, the AI didn't hire another Hero. Eventually he did, though, but he ran off with it instead of defending its town.

This is new for us... Could you please check your UPlay folder for the savegames? They're in a path similar to: C:\Program Files (x86)\ Ubisoft\ Ubisoft Game Launcher\ savegames\525187ca-1e25-44fb-898e-7f044f9e42f2\1176
The quicksave name is 970, you can locate the correct folder with this probably. If it's not too much trouble, we would like you to send the "savegames" folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames) or just all your H7 savegames to us. Anyone else experiencing this is welcome to do the same
We can do this via PM, less clutter that way.

So yesterday, me and a buddy once again tried to do a LAN multiplayer game...Sim Turns turned off, to avoid the random spectate battle out of sync bug. And yet, on day 7 of week 2, after a long'ish battle on my side, we ran into those awful red out of synch messages once again, which I haven't seen like that unless it involved loading a save game.
I'd love to have reported it as a bug officially with the launch.log file and all, but the terrible ubi website seems to not want me to log in at all.
The only multiplayer mode that seems to be 'save' is Hotseat as it can't actually get out of synch issues. Even then, in a hotseat game I did a couple of days ago, people would randomly get a "Heroes VII has stopped working" error when starting a battle, needing to reload the autosave, it's all hardly ideal.
