Where did I ever say it is against the CoC to say "Your post is funny"?
Get your feet back on ground Elodin.
You told me not to use the phrase very silly or utterly ridiculous about ideas because they were insults to the person presenting the ideas. You claimed that me using such phrases was a way to insult people in a way as to get around the COC.
Your "lol" falls in that catagory. It is no differnt than calling my statement silly or ridiculous. When I called JJ's statement ridiculous I gave the reason why I thought it was ridiculous. You just derisively typed your driveby "LOL" and added absolutely nothing to the discussion.
And of course others then felt free to do the same thing and even throw in some insults.
Angelito:
Quote: I see it a bit different Elodin. From my point of view, the second phrase is a direct insult, while the first one is a hidden indirect insult.
So please stay away from using such phrases. It is much easier and less provoking to just say "I think you are wrong" or "That's not true", because not everyone who has a different opinion than yours is dumb, a liar or anything similar.
Elodin
Quote: @Moderators:
So are you saying that NO ONE can call any idea silly, ridiculous, nonsensical, or any other "negative" adjective other than "wrong?" Is that correct? Please clarify your ruling if that is not the case so everyone will know exactly what you are going to enforce.
So if someone says "All yellow cars are made of cheese" no one can reply, "Saying all yellow cars are made of cheese is silly" or they are in violation of the COC. Is that correct?
Quote: Elodin:

Angelito
Quote: And why not just say: "This is wrong, because normally yellow cards are made of plastic!"?
Don't make everything so complicated Elodin. Use clear and understandable words when you want to express something. Don't always try to find a way around the rules....
Quote: Elodin
Quote: It is false to say I try to get around the rules.
Angelito:
Quote: See? This is exactly what I am talking about. Why don't you just write: "I do not try to get around the rules!" Express YOUR action/meaning, do NOT always validate the statements of OTHERS in your texts.
I think I have made my point pretty clear right now. I will not continue this discussion about that matter.
These last posts of mine count as a warning (for ALL). Any further similar behaviour will be penalized.

Something was different; I couldn't put my finger on it, but it just seemed like every little letter on this board had inexplicably started shining brightly. As if a magical breeze went over all the posts and users, rendering them better, funnier, more wonderful in every way imaginable. If one would listen hard enough, he could almost hear a quiet set of heavenly voices singing enchanting hymns in the background. Peace, love and tranquility endorsed me as I was trying to figure out what had happened.
Then I opened this thread and saw everyone openly laughing in Elodin's face.
It's...

This place finally appears to be getting out of the dark age it's been buried in for months.

No, it is just how must of us read your posts.
The lack of logic, the lack of argument, and the overdone preaching along with adding several tons of useless statments along with bible quotes which fails to address the point AND the debate.
Do you find it offensive? Good news: Your posts sounds like that, except it is not written in caps.

Wrong. I said: "Saying "It is silly to say..." is not the right way to say something you do not agree".
And from my point of view, and I am sure I am not alone with that, it is quite a difference to find something FUNNY or SILLY.....right?
Otherwise it would be an insult to say: "You're a funny guy"..

@Elodin: HC in not the United Republic of Heroes forums, and you are not leader of the oppositions and the moderators are not the wips of the ruling party.
The text in the CoC's is not that concrete you think it is, the orders there are very abstract and general. When there is a need around the forums, a case where the CoC need to be applied:
1. This is done by a moderator;
2. The moderator do it by concretizing the orders in the case to the concrete case. He is doing this by following only his will and considerations, in some cases he may ask the HQ for a opinion, and most of the times he do respect what the majority of other mods think is right and must be done. When doing this he must not brake the CoC's in my opinion.
This is not a written rule and we follow it when we do our job.
There is another unwritten rule, according to it, we use our penalizing and silencing functions only in the forums given to us by the administrator, but when it's needed we use them out side them, to help the other moderators in keeping the order here. I did it once, I can go it again here.
Read this post of mine again, and if you want - once more after it. And go to another thread.
If this is a problem this can be fixed but this isn't the right place, I have a mechanism, I may even post it one day. It doesn't seem someone to care.
This post is the last one for this subject, because it explain everything.
Subject CLOSED, the thread is now open for other problems, asks and requests.
Another post related to the closed subject is a off topic, according to:
Quote: 4) NO spam, junk posts, thread killing, flooding or flaming.
Junk post is a post that fails to address the topic of discussion and fails to provide intellectual or humorous stimulation, or put simply: off topic, not interesting, not funny. Thread killing is making offtopic comments in a thread in a way that discourages other posters from continuing their serious discussion.
I post this decision of mine only by my will and considerations. A post on the same subject is going to receive a penalty. A second post by the same member - 24 h. silence. There are no second warnings. I'm going to deal with objection against this post the same way. And I don't care if the subforum's titular moderators think it's acceptable or not.
Think of this post like it's demarcation line.

May I suggest a QP for DagothGares for his Rome thread? It's refreshing to read a thread that doesn't have anything to do with religion or politics.
EDIT: For that matter, I nominate this post for a QP, as it's refreshing to write a post in the feedback thread that is <<gasp> positive.

I was browsing the Assange thread and, not being native english, I did a dictionary check for "redneck", "conceited" and "hypocrisy". I could not find any insulting definition for those, but I see they triggered a penalty for the poster using them. (Moonlith)
Is there a moderator dictionary which I could not find, or from now, when disagree, one must go around anything that could sound sincere and straight and fulfill his posts with unnecessary politeness just to please the mods? Or I miss different nuances possible (and not found) for those words?

Redneck is a derogatory term for someone perceived as provincial, uneducated or simple. A stupid, oafish, backwards person who drinks cheap beer, beats his wife, owns a pitbull, has a case of shotguns in his living room, has thirteen children whose names are various permutations of "Billy", "Bob", "Joe" and "Ray", never shaves, smells like piss and cigarette smoke, has no more than seven teeth and owns at least two wheel-less, rusted trucks which are raised on cinder blocks in the yard in front of his run-down trailer. Often a derogatory term used to describe social conservatives.

Not exactly something you'd call someone when you're trying to be nice to them.

Thank you, I was basing my research on redneck definition in modern usage (which I supposed it was used, in answer to harsh Binabik post):
in modern usage, predominantly refers to a particular stereotype of people who may be found in many regions of the United States or Canada. ...
I don't see in the link you posted any of the words you used : stupid, never shaves, smells piss etc. I guess it was a personal interpretation?

Nope. Not a personal interpretation. He's pretty spot on. The american comedian Jeff Foxworthy's done a pretty good list on what it means to be a redneck. He's considered the preeminent expert in the field.

It shows how hard and risky is for a non native english/american to use any flavored language when relied to online definitions.
I have no idea who is your Jeff Fox.

Of course you aren't expected to know who Jeff Foxworthy is, just like I'm not supposed to know any famous frenchmen besides Pepe Le Pew, Louis Pasteur, Napoleon, and General Lafayette. I was just pointing you in the direction of someone who's done a pretty comprehensive list of what a redneck is. I'm sure you can look him up on youtube if you want to learn more. Check for, "You might be a redneck if...."
Edit: His, "If... then you might be a redneck!" is his signature. For example, if you think Jeff Foxworthy's funny, you might be a redneck!
