Does it work with Mark of the Wizard? Never tried ...

Can't tell you for sure, cause I didn't take Mark of the Wizard...And I doubt Biara had it

You can't have more than 2 puppets active so one of them will probably disappear afterwards. Or so it happened with puppet and rain of arrows in HoF.

I didn't win the first battle with the stronghold fight, so the next guy came in with a crapload of cyclops and wiped them out.

Now blue is stuck trying to access a portal he can't use.

My academy town has the tear, so do I just outgrow him and attack him later, or what do I do?

It's possible to win by month 4 without waiting to get more army if your Zehir is good enough by just getting the units that appear in front of Talonguard when you take the inferno towns.

If the any of the 'main' heroes die.  Freyda, Kujin, ect.  Then even if you conquer all the inferno towns they will not appear.  If you do not take all the inferno towns then they will not appear.  It is a scripting error if I remember correctly.  So just keep all your heroes alive, take all the inferno towns, and they will show up.

By loosing Kujin, it caused the scripting error.  If Kujin just doesn't have the oomph, you can go back to 4th campain of orc and use the memory mentor to help.  Ultimate rage > blood fire should be pretty useful, and if you can get the levels (and it is a problem for her) you can get shatter dark.  Keep enlightenment till she is max level then dump it.  You get to keep the +points it gives you.

*Semi Spoiler*

How to abuse Zehir's special.  Ok Zehir's special causes elementals to replace any fallen stacks.  The larger his level the greater number of elementals that join (and I think but am not sure that the number of units originally in the stack is a factor).  Well of course there is a way to really abuse this.  Of course, you won't really need to, but like all of the uber campain abilities it just cries out to be abused.

First, have a huge main stack that can withstand about anything, then lots of little stacks.  Don't worry if your main creature is frenzied won't matter (explain in a bit) and if it is puppeted just cleanse it.  All you need is expert light (or the ultimate), and tons of mana (which you will have).  This is much easier with the Ring, Rod, ect that gives your casters double mana and reduces your mana spent to half (and sometimes 0 hehe).  The spell ressurrect is also a must.

Let the enemy kill the little stacks, absorb retals with them stuff like that.  You get elementals..move elementals (to attack, steal retal, ect).  Ressurrect the little stack.  Rinse and repeat.  During a rather long battle (the ai had me outnumbered by about 5 to 1) I ended up with so many elemental stacks it was hard to move.  Enemy got so desperate he started casting banish hehe.

If they stop killing the little guys (except with retal) and focus on your main stack..remember two things.  Vampirism and Arcane Armor.  The combo just is insane.  Also, don't loose any creatures (you don't have to).  If a few of your stacks are down a few units, either ressurect or PM the last remaining enemy stack and mark of wizard + regeneration.  (to multiple stacks).  If you have all 'living' units you will never loose a single creature.  He can spam ressurrect as easy as most necros spam raise dead if needed.

Some tips to make your final campain easier.  *possible spoilers ahead*

Well start with Zehir (unfortunately this means we will have to backtrack with Kujin, but eh)

Don't go Arcane till the last map unless you feel you absolutely have to.  You'll learn many more spells this way, and this will be key.  (By learn I mean of course so you can pass them on with scholor..which any you learn with just AO you can't).  You start with most of the summoning spells, and learn them all quite quickly.  Chances are you won't need to teach anybody these however.

My build was (at first) Enlight, Summon, Sorc, Dark, Destructive.  Cold Death just rules.  I switched destructive for light at some point, not sure which.  Besides the person you want to teach spells will have all the destructive spells they need.

Now a note.  In the last battle, regardless what your people pick up or have, a lot is lost (lost a complete set of exp gear this way ).  Anyhow.

Back to Kujin.  Keep her enlightenment till late in 4th map of the orc campain.  When I say late..I mean max level late.  Once you have reached max level, feel free to drop it like a bad habit.  Found going absolute rage with shatter dark, detain and corrupt dark (and the other one I can't remember) was the best choice.  Doesn't hurt if you stop her and gotai and give her the 900 cyclops either.  (Was a very short and painful fight for the inferno army).   One hit, one stack kill for them (and with shatter dark they can't be PM'd).
This also gives you divine guidence (along with the word of chief from your units = really swift 900 unit wreaking machine).

Now Freyda .. not much you can do to lighten your load, but making sure to visit the places that sell spells and the haven town is a must.  I went divine guidence here also, and eternal light.  Rest is pretty much up to you.  Key with her is really her divine vengence free cast anyhow.  A really funny thing to do is cast divine vengence.  Get twice the pain.  Though I don't recommend it, you will be cleansing most of the time.  Put your peasants next to your two big stacks, and hope if they are frenzied they go for them.  If they don't pm your paladins, cure with them.  A good way to go is balista/tent/triple if you get the chance.  Then your tent will be of great use.  Mass deflect missile and/or mass haste is a good way to go also.

Freyda and the hiding corpse tactic.  Devour corpse stinks.  So, place another unit (hopefully a high init one that is tough) over the body.  When you see that that unit is going before Freyda and she is going before the enemy...move them (and attack something if possible).  Then let Freyda ressurect them.  Even if they fall immediately somebody wasted an attack (and don't forget divine vengence).  Eventually the enemy will probably get lucky, but hopefully by then it is a moot point.  She ended up with the Archers dream artifacts, which was a huge help.  (Her marksmen became a nightmare for the enemy).

Wulf.  Ah what pains he can be....

Ok first, though sanity would seem to dictate otherwise, give him the +exp set.  He needs all the levels he can get.  Second, hire heroes..preferably lots of them.  Two things to aim for with them (Zehir should have mentoring before going into act 3.  If not make sure he does.  This also limits your enemy (make sure to hire only fortress heroes tho).  Send them to Zehir.

For one try to aim for Light, Dark, and Scholor.  For another try to aim for Summoning, Scholor, and recruitment.  If you get a third (and the others have managed to get the above) go for recruitment also.

Keep these alive if at all possible for later..with the third you can also go destructive/scholor (if possible) if you think it is needed.

Now, Wulf has everything he needs at first.  Try to make sure he does as much fighting underground as possible.  Especially enemy heroes (which is hard since they have two ways of getting to you).  Regardless always keep the extra exp items on.

Now after Zehir beats Rolf, most people think of their score and hop through the portal.  This is a mistake.  Send Zehir back underground.

Now drawl all the heroes back together.  Let Zehir 'talk' to each, giving them any extra experience.  Once they are ready, let Zehir 'talk' to Wulf.  Also give wulf any parts of the dwarven artifacts Zehir may have.  Might as well take back the exp set, as Wulf will need to wear the dwarf set.

Once everybody has all the levels and skills needed...go ahead and pass some time till you have oodles of money.  Don't worry about hiring any more Academy units.  Only hire fortress units if the enemy pops his head in.  Won't take long till you have so much money it is crazy.  Now you can go with either (since the extra heroes know all the spells needed), but you might want to go first with Wulf. (To memory mentor)

Once you have Wulf the way you like him, pass him all the spells he needs.  If the little heroes don't give him it, Zehir will.   Now you can change Zehir if you want, but I say hold out for now.  Go to the portal, cross it, end the game.  (Make SURE Wulf has the dwarf set..don't worry about that dang tome of dark magic).

Once Zehir is about to cross the final portal before facing Biara is when I would go for Arcane myself (I went actually early 3rd map, after I had given my known spells to Wulf).  The mass spells seem to be better as long as you can counter her pm's..but anyhow.

Do call of arms every time, period.  Buy a 2nd hero and collect every thing you can with them.  If it is not a stat booster, the dwarven random resource producer, or chests (and you really don't even need to pick up chests at all) I would say don't pick it up with your main (maybe a artifact).  Kill everything you can while keeping a constant (ie don't go too far out of your way) move going.  Pick up every free stack (Most if not all of the academy units will join you) you can.

If you go the Ultimate route, here are my suggestions.  Dark > Seal Dark > Shrug Dark.  Leadership.  Along with of course the prerequisits for the Ultimate.  Since you should have obscene exp flowing in..take whatever leadership perks suit your fancy as well.

On normal, with the above I was able to take her out on the 3rd month.  Though it took many resets to do.

On Expert I had to go back and make the changes I noted here, and it took a LOT longer.  Also took a secondary hero with me to take my excess Academy units before I grabbed the teir 7's.  Waste not want not.  Now I did something a lot of people probably didn't think to do.  I sent a suicide brigade.  Keeping the key units for myself, I made a hero used Zehir to give them levels, used the academy units I would not be using (with init, hp, and armor reducing arties).  This guy's job was simple.  To do as much damage as possible before expring.  To that end his build was...

Expert Luck (no perks)
Destructive to Cold Death
Expert Enlightenment (at first, then once he stopped with the exp I dropped it for...)
Expert Dark > Master of Mind > Master of Curses > I think shrug darkness.
Expert Sorcery > no perks
Expert Light > Mass Haste / Mass Deflect Missile
Expert Artificer

He went in with Gremlins, the gargs the have the aura that allows spells to do more damage, Djinn Sultans, and magnetic golems.

He didn't do much damage, but he did enough.  My favorite was having the Gargs and Golems surrounded and letting loose with a ice circle so that the gargs were not hit but the Golems were.  Instant rebirth for them (even better then ressurrect for a 'living' creature).  I targeted only the 'real' creatures, letting the summoned ones wreak havoc.  It was short and brutal but Nur managed to take out quite a few.  (Kinda wish it had been Jhora or Havez).

Hi, Heroes community ;-)

First of all - its glad to see, that this game still has some fans.
I´ve played HOMM since heroes 2 came out.. and well, I have bought ToE a month ago or so.

the following bug occured:
gothai stucks when trying to get underground. It is annoying, I have to accept 6 messages "I cant do all the work fpr them etc.." every AI turn.
And since I have only about 80 storm titans right now, I am afraid i will have to klick veeerry often [OK].. no use to face Briara with that army I guess..
Has anyone had the same problem?

If you brought an underground hero to the surface (I am told it is possible), I have no clue .  They are not supposed to be there, so there maybe some bugs expected.  There is a scripting bug if one of your heroes die (beside Zehir).  You can help prevent this by stoping them before they reach the inferno town and making sure they are prepaired.  Kujin can take the 900 Cyclops from the other one and just thrash the town merclessly.

The scripting bug causes you not to fail when either Kujin or Duncan dies; you can keep playing. However, if Kujin dies and Gotai captures the castle in her stead, the script will botch and not properly update a counter it needs to spawn the 4 stacks of tier 7 creatures outside Talonguard.

Just over a 100 Storm Titans should be enough to win the final battle, provided you have at least Vampirism and Puppet Master. Resurrection and/or Animate Dead are also good spells to have, the latter one only in combination with Vampirism.

Well thanks..

Yes  - Kujin died in the first battle (it was sooo close, Gothai won the battle with just one "anger of the horde".. , so he still has the 900 cyclops i guess^^^), so this is the bug then..
Normally I would try the first battle with Kujin again, but I was tired, it was late and I had to go to work.. so it was fine for me..

100 Stormies are sufficient? Zehir knows all spells - Ok I shall give it a try.
But my first attempt with 80 Stormies was a absolut failure, Briara has ultimate gating, so before Zehir was given enough time to buff his stormies, they were sorrounded by his pit lords and nightmares.. thats it  - 0 chance

Hm, I just figured out I had only 75 stormies..
I gave them +5 luck + 47% initiative and + 5 morale.
Together with 5/7 power of dragons set and various others artifacts haste they had a 20 initiative.
I tried with vampirism casted on them.

They were indestructable for briara. I lost no a single one.

Muhahah^^

Hero Build

Since it seems I'm going to have to go back and build up Wolfstan before his Inferno battle, I may as well build up everyone to maximize my ability to win. I'm looking for lists of skills for each hero: Zehir, Duncan, Freyda, Gotai, Kujin. I've seen various lists, but some are incomplete and they're all over the place.

So, give me your best...

For the end Duncan and Gotai really don't matter.  I will try with the others (worked for me) but others probably have better builds (also look at the tips supplied by me on the previous page if you wish).

Zehir the wizards ultimate is very useful in the last battle. I personally kept Expert Light > Mass Haste / Mass Deflect Missile.   Expert Dark > then went for seal/shrug dark.  (though until the final fight I ended up not really needing it). Expert Enlightenment > to mentoring.
Sorcery (and whatever led to the ultimate).  Please remember that I have memory issues so some you will have to look up .  Expert Summon no real perks.

Magic Mirror, Consume arties, Mark of the wizard.  Expert Artificer of course.  Then at the very end go for Ultimate + Expert Dark (with the seal and shrug).  Depending on how many points you have left, the choices are luck and light (both are very useful).  If you get light go Mass Haste.

Kujin.  Two ways to do this.  At first it was...

Expert Enlightenment no perks
Expert attack > Frenzy > Stunning Blow > Excruciating strike (though now I learned perhaps flaming arrows might be better)
Expert Leadership > Battle Elation
Might over magic, Memory of our blood, Powerful Blow (especially with the attack line up)
Expert Luck > Luck of the Barbarian
Expert Battle Rage.
Expert war Machines (I mistakenly went for the catapault/gob support/ect) I would advise Ballista > Tent > Tripple Balista (especially if you go Attack > Archery > Flaming arrows).

The other possibilty is the ultimate + Expert shatter dark > Detain Dark > Corrupt Dark > Ect.

Freyda (really hard)
Light to either...Eternal Light or Guardian Angel.
Attack > Archery/Battle Frenzy
Basic racial (didn't have much use for it and didn't even try to get ultimate).
Leadership and I forget what perks, take what you like .
Luck I took soldiers luck, resourcefulness and something else
Dark (I got lucky) seal/shrug darkness.

Hmm think I put Wulf's build somewhere here before.

I will have to go back and luck at him sometime, because I honestly have no clue besides Expert Dark with Seal/Shrug dark (see a pattern here?)
