lol
an electric guitar mix would be too easy. I mean if you think about it electric guitar = twentieth century music. I'm hoping to turn over some fresh mulch here
I disagree. Twentieth century music = e-guit + drums + bass...also, this is much a shorter period, beginnin some in the 50s I think (maybe a tiny bit earlier fpr jazz & such) and in the 80s latest there began the musical world to split and the electronic music boomed and booms more and more (bah ) and I think with the ninties finally, the true rule of e-guit was over finally...okay I skip off the theme. Problem is I#m a guitarlover XD I play guitar and it should definitely be the weapon of my choice. Acoustic guitar however seems not suitable for this - there are tons of songs highly depending on it but it would lack of variety probably
...so, not sure what i should take then...violin? cello? bagpipes?

@Bini, go ahead and post your lists if you still have them. I like your generational perspective
Quote: Madonna is one of the most famous female musicians (rock/pop wise) ever. Love her or hate her, she did more for females in music then all but a select few.
I dispute that. Madonna didn't do anything more than change her persona every two years and sell tons of bland music that she didn't even write. Somehow she's built up this mythology around herself that she was some kind of pathbreaker and its complete bullsheeeee. There's nothing that she did that somebody didn't do better before.

OK, here's some girl power songs. There's no need to judge, but it's here in case any of it is new to people. I almost had this list ready in time, just needed to narrow it down and put it in order.
Warning: except maybe for the first song, most of it is pretty mellow and gets slower as it goes. So if you're a hard core metal head (or just drank a bunch of coffee) then it might not be for you.
Patti Smith - Waiting Underground
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIUNKLg2w-M
Concrete Blonde - Tomorrow Wendy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ac_Sre3EV8&feature=search
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane (Lou Reed cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8W7VSS2ChY
Joan Osborne - St. Theresa (I strongly suggest ignoring the video and just listen)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbAeTywPiP4&feature=av2e
Bonnie Raitt - Love Me Like a Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXVoOgwiYc8
Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpD5_c2j1OM
Emmylou Harris - Shores of White Sand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAIU9OJGVfc
Eva Cassidy - People Get Ready (Curtis Mayfield cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeU9MZc0dGw
Dreams of Sanity - Masquerade Act 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIDnxFDLngw
Patti Smith - We Three
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw1ofTgPtc4
Since this is about girl power I'll add the following.
Besides singing, Patti Smith writes most of her own music and lyrics, with lyrics rooted in the beat generation. IMO she is one of the most under-rated artists ever.
Joanette from Concrete Blonde writes or co-writes most of their stuff, although she didn't write the above song.
Joan Osborn, Bonnie Raitt and Emmylou Harris write most of their own songs. All three also play instruments as well as sing.
Joan Biaz wrote the above song, but she mostly does a lot of covers.
Eva Cassidy did almost entirely covers. She's a sad story since she was so talented and died of cancer at a young age, not long after that video.
Not sure if Sandra Schleret or Martina Astner from Dreams of Sanity are credited with any of the writing. I think the above song is Sandra singing.
One last note. This is a broad category and there are sooooo many missing artists from all genres.

Yeah, speaking of missing artists I have to give a shoutout to Enya. She's so far out of the mainstream that she frequently gets overlooked despite making a lot of good, original music.
@Jiriki, piano
one more girl power shoutout to a band I just recently discovered, the Xray Specs - Warrior in Woolworths

I take piano.
Broilers ~ Meine Sache
Soem German Punk-Rock again Title is hard to translate for me, somehow. Word for word would mean "My thing", but saying something is "Meine Sache" in german means taht it's concernign only myself, not the one/s I'm talking to. Song tells (for me) to go your way, somehow. Key Line:
"My thing, my problem - I won't perish.
Instead of a white flag, you'll see my middle finger."
For me, this song is somehow building my ego up XD
Dropkick Murphys ~ green fields of france
Amazingly touching for me!!! Nothing more to say about this!
Peterlicht ~ Heimkehrerlied
Beautiful german song! I find it difficult to express songs like thsi here, since much is about the words in them. The text is not only nice and thoughtful, meaningfuL!, but there are also qutie soem word games, f.e. many words with quite different double-meanings used, so the meaning of the line is changed, f.e., by repeating the alst word, which, standing alone, means soemthign EXTREMELY different!
But I hope ypu liek to lsiten to thsi song anyway!
Yann Tiersen ~ Comptine d´un autre été: l´après midi
Soudntrack from the film "La fabuleux destine de Amelie" (probably didn't write it right. THsi film is wodnerful, as is the song, in my eyes!
VNV NAtion ~ Illusion
It's probably a keyboard, I admit, but it sounds like a piano(the itnro and its soundline) and the song is marvellous...I see when it coem sto piano I choose the "beautiful" songs.^^
Beethoven ~ Mondscheinsonate
or "moonlight sonata" on english, which means the same^^ A masterpiece, one of the greatest existing sounds!
Die Toten Hosen ~ Der letzte Kuss
A sad one, but beautiful. Title means "the last kiss".
Edvard Grieg ~ In the Hall of the mountain King
An even greater MAsterpiece for me. You should know it ...a bit dark, surely, but ...wow!
Blues Brothers ~ Twist it
An electric piano, but I wanted something different happy in all these slow, somehow peaceful songs
Scott Joplin(?) ~ The Entertainer
A well-known tune. Like it or not. Seemed to me like a "walk-of-the-stage" song, so I chose it for finish.
and hopeflly some completely different things XD

Anonymous - Pavana La Bataglia
* btw here's a cute video of a renaissance dance
Lully - Te Deum
Bach Cantata119 Preis, Jerasalem
dangit, can't find a copy...
okay here's a substitute, an adaption of a flute and orchestra piece
Arturo Sandoval - Mambo Caliente
The solo at 1:08 is going to knock your socks off.
my jazz collection is pretty sparse but I should have at least one in here:
Dizzy Gillespie - Manteca Theme
Celia Cruz - Tuya Y Mas Que Tuya
Dennis Brown - Song My Mother Used to Sing
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
hmmm, no copies of this that feature my instrument well
Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Pueblo Cafe - Todo Mi Vida
So we have early classical, baroque, latin, jazz, reggae, funk, disco, and rap. Quite the versatile instrument.

Jiriki's list:
Broilers ~ Meine Sache
great song, great opener
Dropkick Murphys ~ green fields of france
yes, a powerful song
Peterlicht ~ Heimkehrerlied
I agree, it's a beautiful song.
Yann Tiersen ~ Comptine d´un autre été: l´après midi
nice song, and a good place for it in the mix
VNV NAtion ~ Illusion
Another interesting song I haven't heard before
Beethoven ~ Mondscheinsonate
a classic
Die Toten Hosen ~ Der letzte Kuss
a very interesting juxtaposition of vocal style and piano
Edvard Grieg ~ In the Hall of the mountain King
hahah, I won't hold it against you that this is really an orchestra piece
Blues Brothers ~ Twist it
A perfect change of pace, and really energetic.
Scott Joplin(?) ~ The Entertainer
like it
Final Analysis: and that seals the deal, pretty much a perfect set in terms of energy, freshness, and variety.
Kooka's mix:
inxs - suicide blonde
It's funny, they show a harmonica in the vid but I'm willing to bet that they used a synth/sampler keyboard for the actual sound
Supertramp - Take The Long Way Home
It's funny, I remember hating that song but it sounds good in this context
sonny boy williamson ii - help me
that's worth a second listen
the the - dogs of lust
hmmm, kinda bland
aerosmith - Baby, Please Don't Go
great song, hadn't heard that one. nice vid
Blues Traveler - Maybe I'm Wrong
some hard core harmonica
midnight oil - Truganini
nice
the doors - roadhouse blues
the quintessential harmonica song
the romantics - what i like about you
a fun retro tune
Philip Achille + orchestra - waltz
interesting change of pace though I would have put it in the middle, not the end.
+2 extra credit points for the Beatles and Tom Petty
Final Analysis: overall a great set, my only criticism would be that it relied too much on rock/blues. How 'bout some blistering polka?
Mysty's mix
Baby hold on - Eddie Money
a nice song but the drums don't stand out musically. Seems like the drummer is there just to keep the beat going
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Ac/Dc
an interesting drum part, an integral part of the song, fun song too
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses
an odd selection, I always thought Adler was the weakest part of GnR
Hot for Teacher - Van Halen
a really novel drum part
Xanadu - Rush
hmmm, was never to keen on Neil Pert. you seem to be hitting a lot of my personal dislikes
Hotel California - Eagles
the drum part mixes very well with the rest of the band, it is an integral part of the Eagles sound.
Rush - Tom Sawyer
I just don't find his drumming very inspiring.
In the air tonight - Phil Collins
a memorable drum part
Going Under - Evanescence
?...I barely noticed the drums in this one
Cream - Toad
ahhh, can't go wrong with Ginger Baker. great drumming, although drum solos longer than 40 seconds should be banned IMO. ;p
Final Analysis: You hit a lot of my personal dislikes in this mix which is prolly why I'm not so keen on it.
And the winner is:
Kooka had a great set this round but Jiriki really had a near perfect mix that really encapsulated what a mixtape should be. Nice job.

For the next round we'll do a fun one. The theme is "Burn in Hell". You have to pick out all the musicians you hate, loathe, and/or wish would drop off the face of the earth.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the mix!
Oh. They SHALL burn in hell...
the problem here is I'm too tolerant for most musicians to hate
Scooter ~ Hyper Hyper
Well, I don't know, my dislike for this band is old. THough I today, kind of hatingly enjoy listeing to them. Like with soem sweets: you like to eat it, but on the otherhand, it's so disgusting you almost want to puke.
Eric Price ~ Call on me
3 notes. 3 words. How could one listen to the song? are it the half naked women? Can't be No honestly I hate it, it has a hate-place in my heart and you now why? Because with it'S ****ing simplity it's a catchy tune and I had it spinning in my head for weeks. THe worst song I had in my mind so long. So, burn in Hell for that!
Jürgen Drews ~ König von Mallorca
title=king of mallorca. Going to a region of mallorca ("ballermann") and doing what the call party all the night, which means drinking as much as you can and behaving as noone would ever dare to behave here (except on carnival^^) and listening to baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad music, is unfortunately quite popular in germany.
Aggro Berlin ~ Neue Deutsche Welle
DisGusTing to me!!!
Frauenarzt & Manni Marc ~Disco Pogo
THis is representive for a new "style" in germany, which I dislike so much ("Atzen"). It's practically being proud of being stupid, for me^^ THe text is as dumb as the music, btw. I do not dislike music propagating making party, but that is just...BAH!
Hütte in den Bergen
"Deutsche Volksmusik" I hate it. Not the singe rpersonally, but all of them, propagating an ideal BAvarian world down (or up? ) in the Alps. I can't stand it. Not at all. And THAT shall be the music of our people? Sad...
Modern Talking ~ Cheri Cheri Lady
Despite me not liking the music, Dieter Bohlen is the most annoying, arrogant, rich, self-overconfident ************ ever.
((not for the contest @all: CHeck this out. Familie Popolski made a mcuh greater version of Cherry lady))
Tokyo Hotel ~ Durch den Monsun
A squeaky voice comign out of a sexless singer, 4 kids making, well, not soo bad music in fact, but being pushed to undeserved glory in germany . Synthetic. Bad. Hate them (old hatred!!!).
Jede zelle meines Körpers ist glücklich
well, anyone may believe what they want, and if they think if they sing a disgusting song about th ehappy cells of their body, they'll feel better...let them do. But without range of my ears!!!
Title: Every Cell in my body is happy.
Text:
"Every Cell in my body is happy
Every somatic Cell feels well."
Repeat (donÄt know how mcuh^^)
"Every Cell, by all means,
every cell, is totally on the ball."
Maybe there are variations, but that's it pretty much -.- And a concurrence for Call on Me, concernign the worst catchy tune ever.
...shall we take the worst piece of them, anyway? or the "best"?
I'm sorry I can'T fidn a tenth song...

Hmm, I might not be able to do this one. Although there is music I dislike..I have never wished a singer to vanish. To each their own I always say. Now if it is music I dislike..then here is my list.
Justin Bieber - Baby
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart
N'Sync - Bye Bye Bye
Bobby McFerrin - Don't worry be happy
Lou Bega - Mombo no 5
Jennifer Lopez - Jenny from the block (I like the singer, but this song needs to die in a fire)
Sisqo - Thong Song (I liked it until the billionth time I heard it)
ok I stand corrected there is one 'group' that should never have done anything, ever...but they are not singers
Milly Vanilly - Girl you know it's true.
ooo wait wait, there are two 'singers' that yes I wish would go away .. period (and not just from music)
Paris Hilton - Stars are blind.
Lindsy Lohan - anything she has ever sung..period. Too young to die (if you need a specific one)

Hi Demonge, I'm glad we got a new participant in our round!
2 hints, though:
1st the "burn in hell" playlist should cover artists and songs you dislike, no, hate, not music which fits the theme (which I think your songs would cover, and pretty good), in this round: Quote: You have to pick out all the musicians you hate, loathe, and/or wish would drop off the face of the earth.
THough your list is nice, it's jsut not what this round shall be about, since fog gave nto jsut the theme name, but a clear instruction.
Please, don't feel offended! jus twanted to make that clear
2nd: the lits shall contain of 10 songs (mine is just so empty because in construction) to have about equal judging conditions.
I hope you stay with us, this is very fun, imo! You can also give playlists for the previous rounds, if you want. I have not judged those all, but allways wanted, anyway^^
