in vinrael case, the percentage increased after each level up. maybe it would work better.

Actually, Enlightenment DOESN'T payy off later, as the late game difference between having Enlightenment and not having it is pretty much none-existant.

Yeah in lvl 30 maps.. Even with the xp rates fixed I don't think this will be a common occurence.

Even before that. At some point, the amount of XP needed to level up will be so big that the difference Enlightenment does is very small. For instance, instead of being level 19.5 (halfway to level 20), you'll only be level 19.2, and while that still means you'll be slightly slower to reach level 20, there are a lot of other variables which might make this difference insignificant.

Isn't H6 leveling more linear now, and thus XP required for next level doesn't skyrocket? (speaking of levels 10+)

I think its more of a level 19 vs level 17 than 19.6 vs 19.2.

Now where are those XP tables.... seems I misplaced them somewhere.....

Exact numbers were just to give an example, but at some point the difference WILL be less than a level when XP is a power growth, as is the case here. And I'm not sure what's the formula for XP growth in H6, I got some numbers from Elvin at some point, and they were ... confusing. Some intervals linear (between level 6 and 13 or something like that), others were not - it's not flat, actually quite the contrary, but it doesn't hit a wall like the H5 XP did (at some point growth factor > 2, i.e. you needed to more than double your overall XP just to gain one new level).

I don't know about the XP, but there is another major problem!!!!

THERE IS NO SPELL BOOK! The nice, animated spellbook through which you could cast your spells during combat, has been in H1, H2, H3, H4 and H5!!! Now, they have removed it and replaced it with a simple, uninspiring, ugly rectangular box, through which you select the spells like you do from a Windows menu!

BRING BACK THE SPELL BOOK !!!!!!!!!!!!

Elvin, about the Enlightment/Learning... Let's use Heroes 3 as an example. I'm pretty sure my math is correct.

According to this page, eventually exp requirements for level becomes 1.2 * previous level. So these numbers (xp required for each level) are a sequence with multiplicative constant of 1.2 .

Now experience gained is roughly speaking, additive, not cumulative. You get more xp for killing larger armies. Armies grow in linear fashion (additive, +x per week no matter if neutral or in a castle).

Experience requirements grow much faster, and the learning bonus is additive, not multiplicative. If Learning/Enlightment did something with the "1.2" number (changing it to 1.15 or 1.10) then it might be worthwhile.

Ultimately, in long term, what will you get from this extra experience ? Extra levels. And from extra levels ? Primary stats only... as soon as you max out your skill slots in Heroes 3, Learning becomes a liability. I'd rather have something meaningful in that place, like Leadership, Offense, Defense, Archery, Fire Magic (not the best magic but it's nice to have if you already have others)...

Alcibiades: About Tutor skill (giving 75% xp to others). In theory it is interesting, because it enables usage of skills you don't normally see on a main hero. This way, you would have a weaker main hero but you would have some good captains. Might be better at big maps.

Balance is another issue.

About Heroes Mage Guild randomness: it's not so much an issue with randomness as an issue with very badly balanced spells. Hypnotize is still too high at level 3. It should be level 1, because, frankly, I would be disappointed to see it at level 2. Fireball doing 10 damage per spell power ? Fireblast also ? Fireball should be either level 2 or have damage boosted to 15 * power. I would make Fireblast produce lasting clouds that deal damage every turn... and then it might still be too weak for level 4, so make it level 3 I guess ? How often do you use spells like Landmines, Firewall ? They're nearly hopeless. How about Water Walk ? Extremely situational. I crunched the numbers behind Sacrifice spell recently and was sorely disappointed. It's barely above breaking even, you get the best results for low level creatures. Protection from Fire, Air are very situational.

One of my gripes is that, while Heroes V dumped the old universe, Heroes and lore, Heroes VI basically does it again by rewinding hundreds of years into the past. Even if guys like Godric made an appearance, it would be good (although I'd prefer NWC characters)... but no.

Heroes V made me feel like an orphan in a strange new town, and Heroes VI does it once again.

I'm actually thankful for that.. Can't risk having Isabel or Findan make another appearance At least there are plenty other familiar heroes, including some from the old universe. Raelag, lord Kilburn, Ludmilla, Lorhish, Luna, Tazar etc..

Besides it's not exactly dumping, Erwan had mentioned they intended to explore Ashan's timeline long before H5 was released. Why do you think there is so extensive a timeline? And this one is a lot more promising than the time of H5. Anyway I bet that future expansions will further explore this period, as for H7 should it ever come out, who knows They'll probably have to conclude the dark messiah storyline at some point.

I hope they do something to balance better the lv3 unique buildings of the factions. Right now the necro and haven ones are too powerfull compared to the others. I know we can't compare things like that in particular but in the general situation. But I don't see anything in other factions that can counterbalance the fact that haven and necropolis almost don't lose a single unit, just money if they want.

I had a look through most of the artifacts in the beta. From what I have seen, I should say that I'm impessed. They are well ordered and equally distributed between the skills. Most of them also have nice names and appearance.

My only concern is that there are some pretty weak and useless ones. What about the Crest of Valor? It gives +2 morale. That means it only adds 2% chance for a morale bonus? WTF? Another one is the Spider Helm. It reduces enemy morale and luck by -1. That is COMPLETELY useless! What do you think?
