I agree. They should be the last faction (aside from inferno) that the others turn to for assistance. I would like to see haven more righteous against the abominations and twisted aspects of life that necropolis stand for. Necropolis has become to nice and balanced, heroic even.
Hoping for another direction this time around.

Well... Necropolis' advisor is Anastasya from H6 from House of Griffin, so Necropolis is for sure enemy in H7.

My biggest wishes for necro-town. (in random order)
1) Dullahan (the headless horseman from irish mythology)
2) Ankou (the grim reaper that collects souls in his macabre lantern from french mythology)
3) Banshee (the maiden of death from irish mythology)
4) Barghest (the hounds of ill omen from english folklore)
5) Baykok (the predator (movie) creature, the hunting flying skeleton with bows that hunt for powerful creatures and eat their soul and collect their skulls, they come from native american folklore)
6) Djieien (the undead spider lich from native american folklore that burries it's own heart to become invincible)
7) Aatxe (the undead spirit bull revenant of pure red vengeance from basque folklore)
8) Ahkiyyini (the skeleton from inuit mythology, that play drums to create disasters, and it's dancing creates ruin.)
Most AWESOME mythological creatures of undead.
Core: Barghest / Banshee (flyer) / Ahkiyyini (ranged)
Elite: Dullahan / Djieien (caster) / Baykok (ranged + flyer)
Champion: Aatxe / Ankou (teleporter)
It's fresh! Exciting! It's so exciting to me girl!

One question
How does an Ahkiyyini, Baykok and Ankou differ in looks from a normal skeleton? They have hats? different weapons? Ride something? Even if all of this, these are just skeletons. And having a faction like necropolis filled with such creatures would just look bad. You would hear the "Full of skeletons" crie offten, belive me.
Djieien A spidr lich? So basicaly what the liches is looking like right now in Heroes, or something like a half human/half spider like the Namtaru, that we have now?
Or are they just spider with an abilitie similar to the one we associete with a lich these days. And in that case, What makes them more then just a nother spider with a wierd name an a set of skills we like to see on a different unit.
Sure I would love to see some of my local myths incarneted into heroes. But even the more unique ones like "Hejkal" would just be seen as a combination of a Banshee and Dryad.
And a mythical undead dog/bull would end the same way. No mater how cool the original myth is, people will see it as something boaring and uninspired. Just look at the Yuki-Onas and Kappas. Nice original japaneess myth, how did it look like in the game?

Ankou, it looks different than your average core skeleton, it's more like a grim reaper+death knight combination: pic. Why would more skeletons would be boring as long as they are different? H3 and h5 had both 3 skeletons: ordinary skeleton, lich and bone dragon, weren't they different enough to create diversity? For example: Ankou as a top tier, a bone beast and a skeleton grunt, it's basically the same thing and much better than having not-rotten namatarus, vampires and uncle fester liches...

I'm sorry that you are so hatefull to less known myths, you should give them a try really.
You obviously don't have enough fantasy to create these otherwise skeletal creatures into more original creatures.
The legs of the flying baykok for example are deformed and bird-like, so are their skulls, they could have some flesh over the bones to make them more zombie-like and less skeleton.
Ankou is not a skeleton at all, more like your traditional grim reaper, but on a horse on a chariot of death.
Barghest just another dog? PLEASE! They are the most famous of all these creatures, they are the hounds of ill omen, much more original and much better than a normal boring wolf or dog, they bring bad-luck and death wherever they go.
The Djieien or lich-spider is more like a giant undead solifugid/camel spider, but you could do much with this creatures looks, turning it humanoid isn't needed as they are intelligent magic-casting creatures that can burry their own hearts into other creatures so they become undestructable for as long as the creature lives that carries it's heart around, destroy the heart and you destroy the djieien, this could make for an interesting ability on the battlefield.
Ahkiyyini looks like the normal skeleton yes, but bigger and they have this ritual-clothes on their bones, like ritual-like masks and they carry big drums around that give boosts to other undead creatures and they can cast spells. In mythology they are pretty powerful, but for heroes they could be toned down a bit to create a core version of this creature, with minor spells and abilities.
I'm just sick and tired of the same old humanoid undead in Necropolis, giving this faction some undead dogs, solifugid/spiders and bulls would be cool, as wel as some replacements for ghosts, death knights (dullahan is so much better) and zombies/skeletons.
There aren't really cool replacements for the Mummy in myth tho, but maybe a Scarab Beetle swarm could do.
The Akhiyyini or the baykok could be replaced by a Vilkacis (undead werewolf spirit) or a vampire from myth such as the Strigoi, Moroi or the Vetala.

Ahh... so much close-mined people, who, when don't understand some things, want to burn it. Do you need pitchfolks and torches maybe?
When I don't like Ashan necromancers so much, I think making them eeeevil (as Markal in H5) is just plain stupid.
It's fun to play good, old evil Sandro from time to time, but it's better to have well-intended character at charge, who isn't necessary evil, just don't have other way to things which have to be done. Now! (Gauldoth, Arantir).

Not straight evil, just selfish, cruel and megalomaniac. Or just make their goals different and twisted, maybe necromancers want to "cure" life, to cure all of biological necessities, useless emotions and mortality? Others would see this as evil and insane, but for the necromancers themselves it's divine.
In fact all faction should be neutral, enemies will see their goals as evil and their own will see them as good. You know, like in real life

The Ashan Necromancers are exactly this. According to the lore. They've simply not written them that way. Markal and Sandro were straight up evil. Arantir was driven to the max to prevent the Coming of the Dark Messiah. Most of the rest were either mad-scientists or whiny pricks.

Yup exactly. In Ashan Necromancers and Necropolis in general are not pure evil, the only "true" evil and nihilistic faction I know is Inferno because they wreaking havoc and destruction everywhere just because they can.

I'd like a more standard necropolis without predominating colors. Skeletal(skeleton, lich and skeletal dragon) and zombie-like(zombies,ghouls) units don't need any special color. Ghosts could be pale white. Vampires dark red. And Death Knight could have a pale green(khoine like Death's horse in Darksiders 2, not toxic green)

Gauldoth was cool, but he should be an exception from the masses.
Granted, I did not play enough Heroes VII, I did not even buy the expansion, so I did not know how they had developed but what I get from the few Necro campaigns in vanilla is that "Necromancers = Guardian of the Balance (tm)" while at the same time they should be considered as disrupting the balance by awakening undead everywhere
I guess my main complain about the Necromancers is the fact that they raise the dead en masse but everyone acts cool about it. The only faction that I know actively hating the Necromancers are the Academy, with the sole reason of jealousy/struggle for power.
Edit: to make "Our Necromancers are Different" how about making the act of necromancy is a sacred act? Thus Vampires and Liches are considered as the Chosen Ones?
Consequently, they should not making low level undead en masse. Instead, they should rely more on living cultists, worshippers of Asha, also on various giant spiders etc.
So the line up:
Core: Initiates/Cultists, Moonsilk Spider/Moonsilk Spider Queen, Fanatics/Templars
Elite: Vampire/Vampire Lord, Lich/Archlich, Black Knight/Ebony Knight
Champion: Fate Spinner/Fate Weaver, Ghost Dragon/Spectral Dragon
Cores are living units, essentially the lower level disciples of Asha who are not worthy of undeath yet.
Elites are those worthy enough of the Goddess blessing of undeath.
Champions are either the daughters of the Goddess' avatar, or the product of magic so complex that could be seen as the "divine intervention" from the Goddess.
And for the life of my monitor, please tone down the green tone!

The Necropolis has lost it's horror style and dark tones.. I don't really like when people say that all ubisoft has to do is a remake of heroes 3, because heroes 5 and even 6 had their right choices, but talking about Necropolis is talking about looking back to Heroes 3 and bringing back a lot of things. I miss the horror and the madness of the old Necropolis from Heroes 3, no creature was silly, all of them would be quite creppy if there were better graphics. Also the green color should be less used, but thankfully i think Ubi got that right (Haven and Academy don't seem to have a thematic color this time).
Also the role of the faction as some sort of guardian of the order is so sad.. Necropolis should be the destruction of the order and nature, pure madness and darkness! Unfortunately they try to give the role of evil faction to the Demons only.. I miss Arantir and Sandro times
My Necropolis army in Heroes 7 would be:
Core: Zombie/Undead Soldier ; Ghoul/Putrid Ghoul ; Ghost/Spectre
Elite: Vampire/Lord Vampire ; Necromancer/Lich ; Wraith/Banshee
Champion: Bone Dragon/Putrid Dragon ; Black Knight/Death Knight
