artu said: Well Sal, with all respect to your anecdotal wisdom, living in Turkey, I'm guessing I happen to know more Muslims than you! Keep in mind that African countries which is the bulk of Muslim immigrtaion in France are the least developed ones and they had been colonies through out all history. And even the many variants of Islam from Indonesia to Kazakhistan is solid proof that it is not immune to social change.
Have to ask - living in a country which was the centre of a beautiful civilization such as the ancient Greeks, Hitties, Armenians and Byzantium (who I'm guessing you have to be at least partially descended from?), wouldn't it be nice if people just mass-converted from Islam to some other religion like Christianity so that your country could become the centre of civilization it was once again? Didn't even Ataturk admit that Islam was a rotting corpse?
Note: I'm personally closer to Pantheist if anything but I mean... everything > Islam. See Muslim reactions to this news for proof.

Here's a great video on the subject: What's Holding the Arab World Back?
Anti-Semitism makes people stupid, as it gives them a scapegoat for all of their misgivings, encouraging them to not put their snow together.
I'd argue that the same trend can be seen by "anti-colonialism" and anti-western ideas in general. These are generally intertwined, however.

I'd rather people would leave religion all together instead of converting to another one but that kind of wishful thinking does not help with anything. For a few centuries more, Islam will probably be a sociological reality here, then, it will fade away gradually like many other dead religion before it. Intellectually, it has already died.
The "civilizational gap" you speak of is a post-Enligtenment situation, btw. So rather than having a better religion, it's about being able to put a distance to religion.

So you've probably read/heard/maybe even saw that 50-60 Palestinians got killed and thousands injured during protests against the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem. The reaction so far is typical - the US and Israel blame Hamas (and the US has blocked an UN incentive for independent investigation...), the EU sits on the fence and tries to play the blind and deaf wise man, Erdogan and most of the Arabian countries blame Israel directly and so on.
From the outside, this looks like yet another grossly disproportional and even criminal act from Israel, still there's always a second point of view. Since we have a few Israelis here, it would be interesting to read theirs.

I'll probably write a longer post when I'm near a PC, but the short version is that tens of thousands of people tried to break through the border, while trying to destroy the border defenses and setting flame to nearby Israeli fields. The IDF responded to keep the Palestinians from rushing into Israeli territory. The results are what you see in the media.

In short: Israel killed 58 Palestinian protesters and injured 2,700 others after weeks of demonstrations. Why were there protests you might ask? US inaugurated its first embassy in Jerusalem, a controversial move that broke with decades of US policy and incensed Palestinians.
The United Nations human rights office was was heavily critical of Israel's use of force. "The mere fact of approaching a fence is not a lethal, life-threatening act, so that does not warrant being shot," spokesman Rupert Colville told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday.
Now across Gaza, families are burying their dead in droves. Again.

Since we're quoting UN here, here are some more quotes, this time not from the human rights office that has been clearly anti-Israeli for years now:
The Secretary-General is profoundly alarmed by the sharp escalation of violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the high number of Palestinians killed and injured in the Gaza protests,” said UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq in a statement.
“Israel security forces must exercise maximum restraint in the use of live fire. Hamas and the leaders of the demonstrations have a responsibility to prevent all violent actions and provocations,” the statement added.
“With tensions high and more demonstrations expected in the coming days, it is imperative that everyone show the utmost restraint to avoid further loss of life, including ensuring that all civilians and particularly children are not put in harm’s way,” said the Deputy UN Spokesperson

The territory is clearly Isreali, it's capital is clearly Jerusalem, you want to contest this with violence and anger you will be sent running to the hills and further territory claimed as reperation for weak hatred and wanton destruction. The land belongs to Israel, because it has control over a set territory where Israeli authorities have de facto control and legitimacy, if you want to fight for it then prepare to die for it, but dare not claim legitimacy for such foolishness.
Justice prevails. Not that I agree with many of their policies, but thst isnt the issue here.

That sounds like a black humour given that Hamas is branded as a terrorist organization.

Because not shooting the invaders will end in rainbows and sunshine, wake up.
Quote: “We can’t stop these protests. We are supporting, even leading, them,” he said. The protests will be “like a tiger running in all directions,” Yahya Sinwar said
Sounds very spirited, but hardly what I'd call peaceful, and if you want to lay claim to something that's not been yours in 70 years then go for it, but don't expect sensible men and women to stand idly by and let you have your way. Madness and stupidity.

Yes, I can. Bombing them from air would have been crossing the line. Using artillery would have been crossing the line. Mowing them down with heavy machine guns would have been crossing the line.
Using precise sniper fire, small focused squads and non lethal gas is not crossing the line in my eyes.

I am actually for Israel as hard that might be to undestand. I just hold Israel to the same standards I hold any western nation. And you went too far, lethal force? There was no other way? A lie.
I don't buy it, I hope Nertanyahu burns in his corruption scandals as soon as possible. Oh yeah I voted Israel in Eurovision btw See you in a year
