yes i did that in the meantime myself and it works fine. Now when playing online games the host has to have the template agreed to be played in his DATA directory.Does the other player has to have it too?

So Conan, now that we have the answer to the template question, what templates will we play in this tourney? Will you set a specific template&size or it will be chosen by the players themselves?

Quote: If Rage is unable to play, I guess we would have Tigris and I play each other instead, right? But, I would like to know as soon as possible which one it will be, so that we can finish the game within 2 weeks.
As for which version to play, we are sticking to Random games, with no rules, right?
Right on every count. Don't worry, I'll give more time if Rage doesn't show up.
You are also right, it will be random with no rules. the size of the map will be agreed upon before each battle by both opponent.

Well, I don't have any answers to that, but it has to be random. You can play on the random map generator if you want, or agree on a template before the game.
I would also appreciate the players input in this. I have never played templates so my knowledge is very limited. Basically, everything goes except for fixed-maps.
Does any1 suggest any template?

If I must play during this week then the chances aren't good I'll be able to play...
But during the holidays I might be able to go to a place where they have a computer network with high speed internet and all that...
I would've liked to have played but It's not a huge deal... If you guys must keep going then just do it...
There's always a chance to participate in the next one...

ok Rage, the way I see it is that this is going to be a "test round" . I will certainly make another next year!
OK, so Léo VS Tigris then.
Thanks Léo for the tip.

My ideas to keep this interesting...
By using the current "bracket system" that Conan has set up or by adjusting it just a little, I think I have ideas that could make this into a really fun TOURNAMENT!
Idea #1:
*We could have 2 "Divisions" (Alpha & Omega) with 4 players in each.
*Selection of players in each Division would be done "randomly" (because that's what this tourney is all about, right?! ).
*The players in each Division would have 1 game against each other in a "Round Robin".
*After the Round Robin there would be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place in each Division.
*"Round 1" of the playoffs would begin by having the #1s face off against the #4s and the #2s face off against the #3s...of the opposite Division!
*If a #1 wins their game against the opposite #4, their opponent in "Round 2" would be the lowest ranked player of the opposite Division or of their own Division, if the other Division is wiped out completely in Round 1 (Doubtful, but possible).
*The contrary applies if a #4 beats the opposite #1. In "Round 2" they would face off against the highest ranked player of the other Division or of their own, if the other Division were to be completely wiped out.
*"Round 3" would be a head-to-head battle for the title of "nOOb Champion 2004".
Idea #2:
In either format of tournament (Conan's current bracket or my earlier idea), we could have Consolation Rounds. Meaning that the 4 players who lost, and would normally be eliminated, would continue in a Playoff against each other for the title "nOOb Consolation Champion 2004".
____________
*The end to no beginning...
*Take care, Leo

Dude, you watch tooo much hockey... LOL
No really, it's a good idea.
OK, I took the file Léo sent to me and made this:
So the numbers here represent the players. the round robin will be done in three rounds. Each player will accumulate points: 2 points for a win and 1 point for a loss. The points will be accumulated and players will be ranked where, for example, the top player of the alpha division will matchup with the 4th (last) player.
there will be a consolation round aswell like Leo_lion said.
You can forget the old pics, I have deleted them.
This is the template to show players how much points they have accumulated and who is in the lead:

This is a great sistem and can make this sistem more atractive cos each player gets to play more games(in the previous one a player could play 3 game including the final).About the templates:I played a game last night with a friend on ipx cos i was mighty curious about those templates i've downloaded yesterday from the internet. I've chose jebus template, and castle(seems to be the best on that particular template). It was a long game(endfight month2week3day5), but i had enough time to explore the map.The true is it was severely unbalanced:i had 5 topias in my grasp, end week 3 already taken 4 cons standing nearby+bunch of pandora's boxes and relics. The rest of the time i just explored the map.My oponent had only 1 topia in his zone, 3 pan boxes in one spot guarded by horde(later throng)ancients, + some arts.As far as i could see each zone had a hill fort, a second castle without fort(same race) and a gold mine. The underground is fairly weak in arts&stuff.
In the end i went to my opponent 's comp(next door) and i had to admit that i was lucky to find all those arts&topias&cons. So IMHO Jebus isn't a fair template, but things mostly depend on luck(still i only played this template once so i might be wrong aswell).Later i've played a single game on EXTREME II, and it seem much cooler to me(I've used the cheat to see the whole map at the end so i could see if the comp had same zone features as in my zone). This seemed to me alot better and balanced.I'll test other templates and maybe we'll settle for one template for all the games in this tourney. If you guys have any preferences please share..

I think it is wrong Tigris....Jebus is more balanced than Extreme. Different is: on Jebus each player can build without trouble, while on Extreme you must fight for each resours and most money. If one of players have strong guards to second area where is a mines, that will slow up his development.

As i said in my early post,I only played one map with each of the two templates, so i might have judged wrong.Nevertheless that was the exact situation...We'll settle for something eventually.Maybe Angelito(again!!) will give us some guidance for that...

If this tournament is about balance, I will reccommend the templates: Balance and panic, as those are probably the most balanced templates around
Also true random is quite balanced, I dont like that template personally, but Im not playing here, so its your option to judge it
Also, if you are in for a fun type of random with some relics and ok balance, then Blockbuster is nice as well, I personally didnt like the template at first, but after getting to know it, I find it great fun

OK...some infos about these 2 templates:
If u play 1vs1 on Jebus template, u should chose L size NO under. This prevents the unbalance at least a bit. Problem on Jebus is, the "treasure ratio" is set very high on Jebus. To explain it a bit: Every thing on that random map has a value. The leprechauns (should be between 100-500), the level 1 spellscrolls (also between 100-500), conservatories (2000 - ??), nagabanks (5000 - ??) and so on. When i set the treasure numbers (in the rmg.txt file) in YOUR starting area between 100 and 1750, u will NEVER get a cons, a nagabank, an utopia or such. But still u could get 20 leprechauns, 3 den of thieves and 2 spellscrolls, while your opponent with the same treasure numbers could get 20 den of thieves, 17 spellscrolls an 1 leprechaun.
And that is the problem about jebus. I think the 3 treasure ratios are set like this: 100 - 4000 , 5000 - 15000 and 12000 - 30000. This means, the computer has so much possibilities to fill your area with stuff which fits in these numbers, so that it seems to be unbalanced.
Coz for the computer, a conservatory has the SAME value as a level 2 spellscroll like "remove ostacle"...
The bigger the area is, the more stuff he could implement.
So if u play Jebus WITH under, normaly the WHOLE underground is treasure area.
2vs2 should be played on XL no under.
The template EXTREME II is for sure more balanced, coz the treasure numbers in your starting area is very low, so no much resources, not much goldpiles laying around, and nearly everything is guarded.
The unbalanced thing on EXTREME II is the treasure area.
There are immens high treasure values given in the rmg.txt file, so it could happen, u get several Level 7 units out of a box, 10.000 gold, 30 wraiths () or u could get ALL possible spells out of it. And we also know how many "bad" relics (like seacaptains hat...) exist...
One could have all the good relics in his area, while the other one for example has many bonedragon dwellings...
The earlier u break into your treasure area, the more u can prevent opponentīs getting too much advantage out of his area, coz while he is doing his topes in week 3, u get all the relics out of the treasure are in the middle....this could equalize the situation a bit.
And btw....Month 2 week 3 is really late...even for XL with under....donīt try to fight EVERYTHING in your area....only do the really important stuff, which helps your hero to get much stronger (you donīt have to fight every tree of knowledge, or every major artifact...)
Goal: Break as soon as possible and get the treasuries in the middle before your opponent does..

I know, but me and my friend deliberately searched the whole map to uncover the whole map, just out of curiousity.Contrary to what you said the underground seemed to be mostly filled with castles, rather than arts, padora's or topes???I played another two jebus maps last night and it seemed kinda cool.I was interested if the option "monster none/normal/strong" has something to do with the guards to the middle area.I think not, only thing was the guards for mines, treasure arts and such...
BTW:i've noticed that sometimes you have 2 towns without fort in your area, sometimes only 1(still without fort). Also gold mine, not always present. How does that work?Do castles and mines have values like that too?how can you set a value so that the second castle in the area isn't the same type as the main castle?

The template for Jebus is set as follwing:
1.The terrain of your whole starting area is ALWAYS native to your chosen starting town.
2. You have 2 more towns in your area without fort prebuilt, but ALWAYS level 1 and level 2 dwellings prebuilt. (thatīs not jebus special, thatīs always like this...)
3. Every starting area has TWO goldmines.
4. The only way out of your area leads to the treasure area.
5. Treasure area has ALWAYS desert terrain.
6. No matter how many players participate on a game, there will ALWAYS be 4 different areas with 3 towns (to make it possible to play with 4 players), 1 with fort and the 2 others without.
7. The 4 "normal" areas are NEVER connected to each other, only through treasure area though..
8. The monster settings (weak, normal, strong) DONīT affect the guards. The value of the guards are set seperately in the rmg.txt file. This monster settings affect the strength of guarded resources and artifacts, but not the mines. Coz u can set the monster strength in the rmg.txt file aswell. And if u set monster on "strong" there, then even your wood and ore mines will be guarded. If u set it on weak, even your mercury, sulfur, gem and crystal mines are UN-guarded.
If anything of these mentioned things DOESNīt fit with your current created map, then the comp made some fault in his creating phase (like misplaced guards...).

Thanks for the complete explanation, i know this was suposed to be posted in the ToH forum, in the template thread, but maybe someone is interested and maybe this might help for the upcoming tourney.
BTW:I've uploaded Stiven's template. All those interested can get it from here It's a txt file.
@Edit: i don't think the link always work, but if you go to this adress:http://m.1asphost.com/tigriss/stiven's%20template.txt you'll get it for sure.Don't know what is the problem with the link though...

Most treasure areas it may be wise to pick up Pathfinding for main & maybe the scouts if you can because the treasure areas so big.
Random Dwellings also, you can have 1 to as many as 7-8 dwellings & even lv 7.
The map can be very resourceful with WIndmills,Pandora boxes,Water mills & many lep gardens of course depending on the terrain.
Even a trading post.
Remember there may be times that you may be blocked in because creatures blocking your way.
If there are exceptions starting a new map could be exceptionable.
