Hi K1ng,
We haven't had the chance to chat much ... if ever. so I welcome this oppertunity!
In keeping with my idea of being transparent as a mod, I will tell you that the members' which site you visited, had posted to sell some books. We at HC do not encourage people coming on HC to sell goods (as per the CoC), so I edited his post in such a way that he still had the link, but the selling attempt was edited out.
If you want more info about this you can read the feedback thread or you can IM me.

oh, i see now. thx for the welcome by the way .
i'm just curious, i see alot of people are into comics, i have a 3D version comic which you read it with 3D glasses. do you think, is this a good step for new generation? personally, the picture view looks awesome as in 3D, but it kinda feels dumb to read the comic with those 3D glasses, no offence meant. the view takes into a different universe, action scene seem much better. yet there aren't much of 3D comic books, only some special issues. just imagine a 3D version of Spider-Man fighting against Shocker, it'd be awesome. still, if you must've known that Star Wars movies are going to be re-released as in 3D versions soon, and fans are already complenning about it :/. i dunno, just wanted to see your opinion about new 3D stuff, comic or movies, what do you think?

Quote: It seems we have a bunch of comic book fans here, so I thought I could open a club here!
What do you think about comics? Are they just a fond childhood memory? Do you consider them children stuff? Or perhaps you are a hardcore fan? Share your story with us!
I was a hardcore reader and collector until the late 1990's when Marvel Comics virtually destroyed the industry by not only producing utter crap by the truckloads but also buying out all of the independent, smaller companies who had any signifigant market share and "Marvelizing" them. Image comics did not help matters by putting out scores of horribly written(but usually well drawn) titles like Spawn and such.
Most of the stuff I like(or likED) was the adult underground stuff and black and white indie titles.
Quote: Where do you come from and what are comics like in your country? In the USA and Japan, comic books are industry, linked to movies and cartoons; in France, they are often viewed as art; in Russia, there were virtually no comics during communism!
Russia was Socialist(though I suppose we could quibble over the differences between socialism and communism). Here in the USA the industry has been in it's death throws for years now. It started going downhill badly when Marvel sought to buy up the distributors adn thus control every aspect of the industry(not to mention sicking their corporate lawyers on everyone from their own artists and writers to fans paying homage to their characters). This backfired on them of course and Hollywood has somehow managed to save their arses.
Quote: What are your favorite comics? Do you like superhero action, underground stories or newspaper funnies? Let's see your top list!
My absolute favorite comic is Faust: Love of the Damned by David Quinn and Tim Vigil(published by Rebel Studios). It is a highly controversial horror book. The book is notorious for being the most graphically violent and sexially explicit book ever published. Several comic book shops in America were raided by the feds simply for carrying the book at one point.
But being graphically explicit in itself would not be much to write home about. What sets the book apart is that it is easily the best WRITTEN horror comic ever produced! Right up there with the best of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and the classic EC stuff(Tales From The Crypt, etc.).
The book began in 1988 with issue #1 adn issue # 13 has JUST NOW been published! PArtly because of artist Tim Vigil's detailed B&W artwork which has been described as equal parts Berni Wrightson and Bill Sienkiewizc. The book appeals to superhero fans because the main character, an amnesiatic former assassin for a Satanic cult, is visually a cross between Batman, Daredevil and Wolverine. The basic plot elements have been ripped off by the likes of Spawn and similar superhero fair to great extent and the book was even turned into a low budget, direct-to-video movie of the same name(but don't bother watching it. It was TERRIBLE!).
Other books which I recall with great fondness are Justice Machine(Mike Gustovich and Tony Isabella during it's greatest run), Badger(Mike Baron and various artists), Roachmill, the silver age Charlton comics characters(Blue Beetle, The Question, etc.), and more independent books than I could shake a stick at!
Quote: Have you ever done some comics yourself? Are you an artist or a writer? Has your work been published? Could we see it online maybe?
Never published(to my knowledge) but back in the 1990s I had several would-be companies asking me to pencil adn ink for them. One group ended up stealing a bunch of my work(I have no idea what they ended up doing with it) and a friend of mine used one of the characters I created in stories he wrote for "Fat Freddy"(of the famous Fat Freddy's Comics) a few years ago.
Back when I was in Job Corps I used to teach workshops in comic book illustration and dynamic anatomy and such.

What titles? Needless to say, "Maus" comes to mind first, but it's a cult classic. "Elfquest" and "Cerebus" were actually mainstream (although printed by independent publishers). I used to like Crumb and Shelton, but my favorites are "Love and Rockets" and books by Clowes (especially "Ghost World" and "Eightball"). "Strangers in Paradise" was OK, but I hated the plot. Ware's work was never released in this part of the world. I missed "Box Office Poison", too.

Speaking of which... Needless to say, I loved Moore's "Watchmen" and "League", as well as "Supreme" and "Tom Strong". I am afraid I didn't read "Promethea", though - was it as good?

When I say "independent", I am refering to non-Marvel/non-DC stuff(including Cerebus, Elfquest, the Aircel books like Samurai, Concrete,...even "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"(before it became the huge commercial juggernaught it eventually became)). I read very little of Maus( friend of mine had teh trade paperback collection/Graphic novel).

I used to have a NM condition copy of Zap Comics #0 from the late 1960s which was my first exposure to Crumb. I never got much into that stuff though. It was good adn I could see how important the stuff RC was doing was but I was on a budget and I had a bizarre infatuation with(sometimes horribly written) B&W action/superhero books, pulp adventure characters(like The Shadow), and lots of other things(Archie's "Red Circle" line of superhero books from the 60's, Charlton's silver age Blue Beetle, etc.)
"Love and Rockets"(the brothers Hernandez IIRC?) and the like was stuff that I would check out because of teh word of mouth, high-brow buzz surrounding these titles but I never really got into that stuff. For some reason I was always more interested in writers and artists who could take a concept as ridiculous as superheroes and make it interesting(Moore, Isabella, J.M.Demateis, Kevin Juarre, etc.). As an artist, I was also draw to artwork that was not-so 'subtle' as the stuff found in books like L&R and the like. I loved guys like Sam Keith, Bart Sears, Bill Sienkiewicz, Tim Vigil etc.

I don't recall "Promethea" at all. I still have my Watchmen, Swamp Thing TP, and probably a few Miracleman issues laying around.
Interesting thing about Watchmen: The original book was to feature the cast of heroes from the 1960's Charlton comics line(Blue Beetle instead of "Nite owl", The Question instead of Rorschach, Captain Atom isntead of Dr. Manhattan, Thunderbolt isntead of "Ozymandias" etc.) but then editor at DC, Dick Giordano could not bring himself to allow the characters he had once watched over as editor of Charlton comics, be killed off as per Moore's story.
Shame really...to think that, as good as Watchmen was, it could have been even BETTER!
For my money, Miracleman/Marvelman was even better than Watchmen(actually lots better!) but by the time Moore starting working for Image, I was on my way out of comic book reading.

what do i think about comics
They're cool! Well,i would like a comic about heroes of might and Magic, but a comic not so comic, no what i mean?
In Romania, the best comic was of a gu,half Tarzan, and half Mowgly, called Rah-Hank, i tried to Log in with that name, but i couldn't find the portrait of a savage, average, Ape Man,so all i have to say is Thor is in!

Unfortunately, I just browsed it, but never had the chance to actually read the entire issue.
It sure sounds like fun! One of those weird books, like "Too Much Coffee Man" etc...

Image had their ups and downs, like all companies. Spawn is the most popular Image book, but not the only one. Besides, I think it's for teenagers.
In my opinion, the best Image book is Savage Dragon by E. Larsen - sure, it features a Hulk-lookalike, but it's still a lot of fun!

No, I am not a professional artist. My work has been published in several mags here, but the money is bad. Speaking of which, I've just been awarded "best artist" at this year's Comic Convention in Belgrade (see the photo!) but missed the main prize ("best comic" - 500 E). Oh, well...

There was a number of people dressed like knights! Some of them were even fighting! It was a cool show.

It's a matter of taste . I'm not reading any of those, mind you, but I think the art is fantastic. Not my cup of tea, though.
