You know, it was when ConanAmra asked me earlier about new comics that I realized I couldn’t recommend anything.
Oh, I could have written I preferred Astonishing X-Men to the Ultimate ones. Or bore you all with how relevant Chris Ware’s Acme Novelty Library is. Or simply give you a tip, like, go get anything by Dan Clowes – the guy is mad!
And I would be right.
But the truth is I couldn’t care less. 
Why? Because there will never be a better comic book than Avengers #16.
If you think I’m pulling your leg, please let me explain. 
I was seven years old at the time and just learned to read. The neighbor had a pile of old comics, mostly spaghetti western stuff. Not that I didn’t enjoy reading those, mind you. However, nothing... NOTHING... compared to the Avengers.
Imagine you are seven again and you open this colorful book. The first "splash" page features a Norse god of thunder, a giant and a tiny woman flying around his head, and a man in an iron armor. All cowboys and Indians in the world fade in comparison to these! When you turn the page to see what all mortals are running away from, you are suddenly attacked by a black knight riding a Pegasus... Needless to say, I can describe every panel by heart. (Don’t worry, I won’t!  ).
Today, those heroes still seem as real as they did that summer afternoon twenty years ago. I know it because I checked last weekend: a pen pal from the States send me a package of American books, which are hard to find here. Among other latest titles, all in dazzling computer color and featuring currently hot characters, there were several oldies. You guessed it, true believer (as Stan Lee would say  ) – including a 500 pages long Essential Avengers, vol 3.
Once again, the heroes from my childhood became alive, drawn beautifully by "Big" John Buscema. I finally had the opportunity to read how all those adventures ended. Did Hercules ever return to his Olympus? What was Vision’s big secret? Did Quicksilver ever change his hairstyle? (Well, no spoilers... Duh! )
It felt like reading old newspapers or a history book. It felt real. After all, they had a greater influence on my life than, I don't know, Napoleon, Elvis or Ronaldo. Hey - they are all equally imaginary, aren't they?
Have I read better comics? Sure. Maus, the Pulitzer winner, comes first to mind... but the list is endless. That’s not the point. Because nothing... NOTHING... compares to Avengers #16.
True, Memory Lane is closed now. You know it’s a one-way street anyway.
But, if you can keep a secret, I’ll tell you there’s a passage that leads there. It’s hidden in my closet, in a box full of dusty books.

Ok, just wanted to talk about a few new comics I've just read..well, they're not new issues but it's the first time I've read them.
Cable and Deadpool - Nice storyline, though i'm missing some issues in the serie. I enjoyed it, but I kinda got confused about the events and all....If anyone read this serie, can someone specificly issue how it goes? On one issue, a cult is trying turn everyone into blue people, along with Deadpool on their side, and fighting against Cable...on the other issue, they're all suddenly pink, Cable and Deadpool working together, and they have strange powers. It's just a bit complicated. It's probably that I dont read much of Deadpool or Cable comics. Still, I'd like some info and feedback...
Superman and Batman - It's probably after the 13th issue, that Darkseid kills Supergirl. I just want to know what happens in the next issue...
New X-men - Why is beast evil all the sudden? :/

No idea. These titles aren't reprinted in this part of the world.
Have you tried the official sites? Sometimes a look at the cover of the next issue says it all. I am a member of some comic book forums, too - so if you can't find it out yourself, I may post your questions there.
I've read a bunch of comics lately, so here are some personal reviews, just in case you come across these...
DAREDEVIL by Maleev
“The man without fear” has always been one of my favorite heroes (actually, since I read Miller’s great run 20 years ago!). Therefore I am always interested in seeing the next rendition of Daredevil!
I must admit I wasn’t familiar with Maleev’s work, so I was surprised a bit. He is a good artist with a unique style, although I think he is overusing his technique. Combining photos and artwork, although nothing new, can be effective. However, I’d rather he didn’t base the entire book on this approach. On the other hand, I loved watching a bright red figure against the gray background.
The script was OK, I guess. I understand it’s hard to say something new after so many good writers and storylines.
XENOZOIC TALES and SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE
were quite different, although they had one thing in common – a good story. Nevertheless, I have a feeling I got to read them too late. Ten years ago, while I was desperately searching for these, such titles might have influenced me a lot. Today, they represent just pieces of the big picture.
I wonder how many similar books are out there…? Could one enter the world of comics by publishing one’s work in these? (On the other hand, I’ve never found the time to finish those four pages of “Flash” )
THE PULSE feat. Spider-Man
was far better than I would have ever guessed! I admit I thought: “Oh, no - a ‘Marvels’ rip-off, drawn by what’s-his-name… that guy who spoiled the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ (as if it wasn’t bad enough!).”
I was wrong.
Although we don’t get to see Spidey in action, the book has a lot of drama. In addition I enjoyed the dialogues and characterization a lot; sometimes it seems to me it’s hard to find a book about ordinary people nowadays…!
As for the action, here comes Green Goblin and…
CATWOMAN (the “Year One” mini-series from the ‘80s)
was a disappointment, and that’s an understatement. To think I searched for this mini-series for years…! It is a shameless “Batman: Year One” rip-off… The artist actually copied some faces and scenes! Ugh.
LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN vol. 2 
was a fantastic sequel to a cult classic!
It took the characters one step forward... In many ways, it’s your dysfunctional superhero family written by Moore, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
I was surprised to see how self-assured Moore was – an opening almost without a single word in English… Priceless. The best was yet to come, of course.
* SPOILER WARNING*
I wasn’t shocked by the sex or anything, mind you, but watching Quatermain lick Mina’s scar sent a chill down my spine. However, my favorite scene is the one where Mr. Hyde realizes the Invisible Man must have finally died, because his blood started to show; in the end, we can see the blood is all over the place… I usually don’t find such morbid stuff interesting, but I thought that was a comic book master at work.
The only things I didn’t like were the creatures of Dr Moro, which should have been drawn less cartoony. Nevertheless, I must say I learned to appreciate the artwork; once I have accepted the he was more of an illustrator than a comic book artist, I fell in love with his style.
The book simply blew me away, but I read it fast, as if it were a superhero title for adult readers.

I suppose the comic book shops in other countries prefer to sell comics from popular publishers (Marvel, DC, Image...etc.) more, so it may be hard to find it. Still, i'd suggest you to order it from a comic book shop rather than online. I just don't trust online sellers, no offence.

The Batman book is gonna be drawn by legendary Frank Miller, who did cult classic "Dark Knight Returns". Have you read it? Fantastic stuff!

King asked why beast was evil and I don't know if he was given an answer or not (It was alot to read) but during the age of apocalypse (around the time onslaught entered) there was a dark beast... it was an alternate reality that he escaped from (AoA anyway) and he escaped to the regular marvel continuity. He also showed up in the new Excalibur and currently just died I believe.
Obviously I'm more of a Marvel fan here... so yeah... any more questions about marvel? I have been reading for quite some time now and have practically devoted my life to comics and movies... so yeah.

Seriously though, I've got lots of questions. Sure, I could google the answers, but I'd like to hear your impressions, too.
The thing is I live in Serbia and we had oodles of monthly books until the civil war broke out in 1991. Comics returned a decade later, so there's a huge gap... In addition, some of the books I used to read were re-runs of the Silver Age stuff - arguably the best reading, mind you, but way outdated. To cut the long story short, it seems like I have some catching up to do...!

1) I loved Miller's run on Daredevil in 1980s... What as happened since then? Could you mention some milestones in the character's development (key issues, good artists, major makeovers etc)???
2) Who was the Cap in the black costume? I understand he wasn't Steve...
3) Whatever happened to the Thor series by Jurgens & Romita Jr? I have the first two issues (GREAT!), but I was told the title sucked...
4) Why people in Spider-Man keep coming back? Wasn't Hobgoblin dead? Who was Demogoblin? Wasn't Green Goblin dead? Wasn't Aunt May dead? (I have a feeling even my poor old granny is gonna return one of these days... )
5) What is the Spider-Woman's current status?

For a while the Director of movies like Chasing amy, mallrats and Dogma took over the comic (Kevin Smith) and killed off an old important charicter. Karen Paige was her name. Fans were outraged by this and complained. I personally didn't like Kevin smith's take on DD so I didn't read any of it. As of now, Daredevil is being written by the mecha in marvel, Brian Michael Bendis and is doing an AMAZING job! He killed off kingpin for a while but now he's recently reemerged. For a while "The OWL" was the new kingpin. They extracted his mutant genes and created a new drug on the street called "EMG" (I think!) and Daredevil had to deal with that for a while. He also had to fight Bullseye and Kingpin again and he beat the living CRAP out of them and took off his mask, revealing to the world that he is, in fact, a blind lawyer named Matt Murdock! He proclaimed himself the NEW kingpin of Hells Kitchen and began dating another blind woman.
NOW he realized the mistake he made and is trying to cover it all up.

That was a mini series called "Red white and black" it was supposed to be another take on "ORIGIN". It supposed that Captain America was not the first person to undergo the super soldier treatments. I can't say that I know much except it was NOT Steve. I didn't read it so I don't know much more.

I don't know.... sorry. I DO know that for a time, Asgard came down and began to govern the lives of earth. It was REALLY good during that time. Don't know what's going on now... sorry.

People die and re-emerge constantly in the marvel continuity. Read richards, I believe, has died about 14 times and come back EVERY time!
Hobgoblin: I'm sure he came back at some point but I don't know when.
Demogoblin: Demogoblin is the newest of the goblins. He's and ACTUAL goblin and thinks that he is a good guy that is punishing the wicked. He's a little misguided.
Green Goblin: He came back out of nowhere and is currently screwing up Peter's life. I don't know if they explained how he came back though.
Aunt May: The thing is, lots of charicters died, so they rebooted spiderman (In a matter of speaking) and made it so that alot of people that were dead are now alive. Recently Aunt may found out that Peter is spiderman, so they are having to deal with that. So far she's been very excepting of it.

Hulk has been undergoing alot of changes. Bruce Jones took on the mantle as writer of the hulk and kindof turned it into a spy espionage that was all orchestrated by the leader (But we didn't know that). It was AMAZING for a time, but I eventually got tired of the whole Spy Vs. Spy BS and wanted to see some wanton destruction by hulk.
Currently The mantle has been passed back to Peter David, the best Hulk Writer EVER (He wrote over a hundred issues in a row of hulk!). So it's promising to be AMAZING!

Yes he is... he has recently become a sort of New Messiah of earth... it's really interesting but I haven't had a chance to pick up any issues of it. It's looking at him under a different Angle.
Silver Surfer has JUST been brought to the ultimate universe in the issues of Ultimate Destruction. I only read one issue with him in it and he was sniped by someone that looks like Moondragon. I'm sure he survived it though.

Boy oh boy oh boy... I can't really answer that question. Scarlet Witch is now the most important charicter in all of marvel. She went insane and made She-hulk kill Vision and Hawkeye. Quicksilver was there... god I can't even really get into it... there are alot of facets.
Scarlet which created a new universe and recreated all of marvel as a result of quicksilvers hints... it's really hard to explain, it's called the house of M and all titles cross over with it.

I like all titles. I haven't been able to read lately because I've started school so I'm SUPER short on cash flow. Unfortunately... but anyway yeah. My favorite comic of all time is Sandman (Something that, if you can, you should get IMMEDIATELY!!!) and Watchmen (ALSO YOU SHOULD GET IMMEDIATELY!!!!!)

Well, what i've gathered so far, from a several different series, is that Green Goblin is not a single same person. Mr.Osborn was working on a secret experiment in order to keep his company ongoing, along with Doctor Octopus under his service. But the experiment gone wrong, and whole hell broken lose. After this incident, Mr.Osborn started to lose highly amount of money, and unfortunatly gotten into crime stuff. At the early issues of Spider-Man, Green Goblin was wearing a simple costume. In the Ultimate Spider-Man serie, it's introduced as, Mr.Osborn gets infected at the lab incident. However, Spider-Man defeats Green Goblin, and Harry Osborn sees this, and believes that Spider-Man murdered him. To get his revenge, Harry Osborne becomes Green Goblin. This is all the classic part, and kinda similar in the early issues, in the Ultimate serie, and even in the movies.
The return of Mr.Osborn during the last issues of first volumes of series (Spectecular Spider-Man Vol.1, Amazing Spider Vol.3, Peter Parker Spider-Man Vol.1, and Sensational Spider-Man Vol.1) is a complete mystery. I never could figure it out. But around this period of time, a strange clone, under Mr. Osborn's service, becomes the Green Goblin. So, Mr.Osborn and Green Goblin can be seen at the same scene, and Mr.Osborn can prove to society that he's not the real Green Goblin. Of cource, that is a big decepetion, which unfortunaly works and puts Spider-Man in great danger. It was around these issues, that Peter Parker gets dressed up in four different costumes. Later on, the clone melts down and vanishes. We also hear that Aunt May is dead, but at the last issues it turns out Mr.Osborn is keeping her captive at his secret mantion. Anyways, at the very very last four issues of the entire first volume series, Mr.Osborn gets his brand new Green Goblin costume and fights the Spider-Man for one last time. It's too bad that i've never got a chance to read the very last issue, so i don't exactly know how the showdown ends.

Which one? If i'm not mistaken that there are four of them. First one is a real demon, you must've seen him in the first issues of McFarlane's Spider-Man serie. Later on, he becomes the Demogoblin. Another known person is an old friend of Peter Parker, from high school. He just wears the costume and does crime, not big deal. I like the demon one, he's awesome.  One of the other ones is also a clone, who fuses with Carnage in the cartoon (though i'm not sure if this introduced in the comics) and it becomes a creepy creature.
I hope this answers a few stuff.

No one really knows who the true hobgoblin is. Ned Leeds (an old enemy of peter parker) confessed to being him at one point in time. George hill was supposedly him for a while until he was killed by the real green goblin. Jason Macendale was known as Jack O' Lantern and became the hobgoblin until he was killed by the original Hobgoblin. It's all very tied together. I do believe that Roderick Kingsley was the original Hobgoblin.
What happened was George Hill discovered Norman Osborns green goblin layer and paid someone (Roderick Kingsley) to help him out with creating a new goblin. Unfortunately, Roderick Betrayed him and killed him, he then made modifications to the original Green Goblin and became the Hobgoblin. Hobgoblin is faster, Meaner, and scarier than all the other goblins. He's also a mystery and doesn't do things just to harm Spiderman, which makes him more unpredictable. So there's your hobgoblin 101, hahaha.
