I actually like lots of teams, but Leafs are my favorite - and I liked the Leafs even when we had the Jets.
Generally I like teh Leafs first, and then whoever else is the funnest to watch - just so long as their names don't start with sen or end with ators, that's my only real criteria

I greatly enjoyed the Stars' opening game. They came back from an 0-4 deficit in the 1st period to win by one, 5-4.

I was pretty surprised by that
At least Modano is back to making enough money to feed his dogs, that's what's important

You know, as much as I don't like the old guy - one of my favorite hockey moments involved him
It was in the playoffs one year, probably against Edmonton, I don't remember... but anyways, he got smoked really good and was flat on his face for a minute, but then when they got him up they played that song
"I get knocked down, but I get up again"
I thought it was pretty funny

Is it just Modano you don't like, or the entire team? If it's the latter, we may have some problems moderating the same forum.

Though it is sad that they would get sold. And sadder is the fact that their fans are now Leafs fans...
BAAAAAAAAAAa
ZIIIIIIIIING!!
actually that is sad!!
But when looking at the sen's, you can say JM got them to the playoffs 5-6 times but if you can't motivate your players to put in 110% when it matters most, there was no point in playing any of the 82 games.
Ottawa has never been a team that shows any heart when they play in the playoffs.. it's as if the contract only covers the regular season and playoffs are what they considered "unpaid overtime". Which is sad.
much more fun watching an underdog sqeak into the playoffs, knock out the number 2 team and make a run at the cup!!

lol, we have problems cuz you mocked my pain... the no jets joke was quite below the belt
i don't hate the stars, but when the lockout started Mike Modano was asked if he would play in one of the other leagues for 600usd/week and his reply was to scoff at it, and say that that money wasn't even enough to feed his dogs. (I think it was 600, but that's not a quote, was mmonths ago)
since i would think that for a lot of his fans that would be what they get working full time at jobs they hate - i found it to be a really offensive thing to say, especially since the fans were already stung by losing their team, to have that kinda comment thrown out by one of their heroes as well seemed really insensitive to me, so I lost a lot of respect for him
before then i never had a problem with him

I very very much agree with you Jebus.
Let's hope that the new GM makes all the difference. Cause Hashek alone sure won't.

one guy I enjoyed watching in interviews was
Jeremy Roenick.
i hate that guy but man I loved his "no holds barred" way of talking about the negotiations!!
he basically said it was a horrible deal and the players got screwed but he said tough!!
that that was their problem not anyone elses!

I love JR Of course, you really don't have to paint me a picture of what his flaws might be But I love his honesty...
I mean, the league has a pole up their butts so far when it comes to speaking your mind - it feels like the players have a list of acceptable responses to media questions that they can read from now.
I find this especially aggravating because the way to sell the game in the USA is to get the people to love the players, if the players aren't allowed to have a personality, there's nothing to love!
In example - one team is royally screwed by the refs making a wretched call by lets say... Magoo In the interview the player is asked about the call - and what's the answer?
"Ah well..." (some panting, wipes the sweat off the brow) "Those refs out there do a great job for us, they can't see everything.. sometimes the calls go your way - and other nights you're not so lucky" Then a polite nod as the player goes to the dressing room and likely says to his teammates
"Those sunufa***** refs ****** us again! I'd like to grab that rat ******** eyes out of his ****** head and show him what a penalty really is!!!"
Now be honest, which would you rather hear - the canned answer - or the truth that lets you know your guys actually do have a spine?
Really, hockey players are supposed to be tough! They come off as doormats with all that nonsense.
BTW Conan - Hasek can't do everything, but a team will play with a lot more confidence if they know the guy in net can handle his end I think your team just needs more time to gel

lol, well if you've ever watched a hockey game - you've seen that interview
and yep, I did type the stars, I'm not sure if they actually fit words, so use your imagination
Another interview favorite of mine was always Patrick Roy - cuz whenever a team wins and is asked about their success - they give props to all their teammates, and talk about how the whole team did their job (blah blah blah) but not Roy!! His always went...
"Well I knew what I had to do out there, and I was really focus and I played my perfect game - so I got the job done for my guys"
He cracked me up

My favorite announcer has got to be Mike Lange from Pittsburgh - that guy is classic
HEEEEEEE Beats 'Im Like a RENTED MULE!!!!
and of course, the sweet music to my ears...
Intoducing Number Sixty six... MMMMMMMmaaariooooo Lemiieeeeuuuuuuuuxx!!
That guy made it fun to listen
Not like those stupid homer announcers like the one in Vancouver - you watch the game, Clouthier clearly has absolutely no clue where the puck is and by the grace of God manages to clear it - and the announcer shouts out "And another great stop by Clout!!"
Bah... Clouthier sux

oh man the french announcers were like that with ROY
(he could be on his knees trying to hide and take a slap shot to the A$$ and the announcers would yell:
"QUEL ARRET SPECTACULAIRE!!"
translation:
"WHAT A SAVE!!! PURE GENIOUS!!!"
(i'd like to share a revelation I made just now while heating up my soup....
hockey is like HC for the following:
when you do good, you get a star....
(here's the funny part)
in hockey they announce 3 STARS....
"but JEbus, isn't that the EXACT number of stars you need to get rid of FLOOD???" (you ask)
coincidence?? I think not!

The French announcers suck. Translation from French:
Well that was a good play by #11 Daniel Alfredson. Reminds me of my friend's sun, they used to play at the Robert Guérin arena in that Montréal suburb with was constructed by my uncle back in the day. You gotta love those days [...] and so he said to his wife "really, I should look into that". That's what my brother told my wife the other...
And he scores!
Dumb French announcers

lol, indeed - I believe Roy himself started the whole breed of Homers... Drove me nuts But I don't much like Patrick Roy
By the way, since you brought up french announcers (which I hate because if we have to watch french channels I have to try to translate for my hubby, lol) The only French my hubby knows is
"C'est le but!!!" which he often yells out during games haha
