I just looked at their roster and the only Russian I see is some guy named Khavanov. Not exactly a team built around Russians. Kaberle is a Czech and he is the closest thing to a major Russian player on their roster.

Oh and speaking of Russians, what do you guys think of the Federov trade?
And btw - I don't seriously think of Avery in the same way as Owens, lol I just thought it was another fine example of a player not knowing when or how to keep his yap shut

About the Federov trade, I'm not sure who Columbus gave up to get him so I don't know if it was worthwhile. The fact that Detroit let him go suggests to me that he's on the downside of his career, so if the Jackets gave up anyone good to get him (i.e. Nash, Klesla, or someone who has the potential to be in their league) they made a terrible mistake...After looking at what Columbus gave up to get for Federov, it looks like a good deal for them. Neither of those guys really looks like a future star.

Federov trade...
you can see that it was simply to dump off a huge contract... I just don't see why columbus took him (it's not like he's gonna turn that team around or anything)
unless they're looking long term and thinking about trading him to a cup contender for a few younger guys..
(then it would make sense)
(modhat? what could be more appropriate than a russian and a canadian trashing each other in a hockey thread??!)

Detroit actually had actually tried to keep Federov, about mid-way thru his first season as a Duck, Federov said that his decision to leave Detroit was based on personal issues (Anna Kournikova dumping him for that singer guy) and that he did regret that he wasn't thinking as clearly as he should've been when he made that decision . From Mike Ilitch's statements, it sounded like Detroit wanted to keep Federov as their next franchise guy after Yzerman retires, and that they were quite unhappy that they couldn't get him to stay.
I think that Federov is an excellent pickup for a young team, in my opinion he looked bad as a duck because their game - it didn't suit Federov's style. But Federov is a great 2 way player, with a ton of experience.
