Sundin is out
Toronto captain Mats Sundin will miss four to six weeks with a broken lower orbital bone.
More here
You'd think he'd have a visor by now...

Did you see it? It looked really really bad... now I'm going to have scary flashbacks about Stevie Y and Mats Sundin taking pucks in the eye.
I'm glad he'll be okay though, felt funny to read it and think "Yay! He's got a broken orbital bone!!" lol

yeah those orbital bones are the worst to heal!!
actually reminds me of the time my son got a shot in the face and we all thought he'd go blind but in the end?
it was the orbital bone!!
oh and "he scores!"
so you'd think that visors would be mandatory by now,
no?

They'd have to grandfather it the same way they phased in the mandatory helmets. I think with them being required for kids, eventually we'll see them more and more in the NHL - but its really hard to change a player's way of seeing the ice when they've been playing a certain way for years.

Well, it is their choice... I would prefer never to have to see another bad facial injury again... its scary as hell to watch.
But I think that the veteran players have to be respected, I mean, look at how long some of them have been in the league without an injury like that?
It might help some guys put them on if Don Cherry would stop calling them names for wearing them though

Rage- The Canucks have a great offense but their defense is a little thin and Cloutier still hasn't proven that he's a legitimate No. 1 goltender. Unless he does that or they somehow find a way to make a trade and squeeze a good goltender under the cap, they'll get eliminated in the second round or the western conference finals. Right now, Calgary and San Jose are better teams.

Quote: lol, we have problems cuz you mocked my pain... the no jets joke was quite below the belt
i don't hate the stars, but when the lockout started Mike Modano was asked if he would play in one of the other leagues for 600usd/week and his reply was to scoff at it, and say that that money wasn't even enough to feed his dogs. (I think it was 600, but that's not a quote, was mmonths ago)
since i would think that for a lot of his fans that would be what they get working full time at jobs they hate - i found it to be a really offensive thing to say, especially since the fans were already stung by losing their team, to have that kinda comment thrown out by one of their heroes as well seemed really insensitive to me, so I lost a lot of respect for him
before then i never had a problem with him
I didn't know he said that. That's really poor on his part. I think the Stars made a mistake when they gave him that huge contract. He's 35 and his skills are really starting to decline. The Stars should trade him to some team that will get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in exchange for a first round draft pick (If he still has that kind of trade value). They're getting old and they need to find some younger players that can score goals.
Jebus- I know Roy was the best goaltender of the last generation and maybe the best ever, but you have Theodore in net now and the Habs have won more Stanley Cups than any other team. You have nothing to complain about. I like the joke about the europeans. It's especially true of the French.

How can you say that? If you watch hockey, that type of hit happens fairly often. I watched that particular incident maybe a million times, and what I saw was this
Bertuzzi hit Moore on the back of the head, it appeared that the initial contact dazed moore, maybe even knocked him out right there, Bertuzzi didn't realize this and gave him another shove as Moore was falling - because Moore was already out of it, Bertuzzi fell on him hard, expecting resistance but getting none. At this point Bertuzzi likey thought that Moore was avoiding fighting, not that he was unconcious.
Now I will agree that hitting from behind is cowardly, no man should do that. And I am not saying that Bertuzzi's actions were something to cheer for. However, the way he was villified disgusted me. I would say if that same hit happened a million times, only once would it have the result that happened to Moore. Usually when a guy in hockey takes a shot to the head, he turns around and they duke it out.
I don't believe that Bertuzzi ever meant for it to be anywhere near as serious as it was, it was purely accidental.

If I remember correctly, he slammed Moore's head into the ice.

As much as I hate them, I have to admit that they and the Lightning are the only teams that can win the cup without an elite goaltender.

I just want to say that it was ridiculous how much Bertuzzi was bashed for what happened... it really and truely ticked me off.
Part of the reason is because I cannot stand in the least how the media is able to do that to someone's life. There are so many people that dislike Bertuzzi now, simply because he was made to look like some kind of devil for the hit he made. It really isn't fair how they picked and poked at that player until he was basicly crying on TV. That's just plain mean and uncalled for. Of course, a large part of it was that he felt bad for what he did to Moore.
A major reason for the overreaction is because there needed to be someone to make an example of to reduce the amount of violence in the NHL. And what better way than to downsize a popular player stereotyped as a bully for making a hit that looked worse than it was.
In my opinion, the reason the hit was so damaging was because all the other players came piling on top of them.
I just don't understand how people cannot see that hits like this aren't even uncommon. Of course there should be punishments for these types of situations, but not to the point where it changes people's opinions of you forever more.

I think when we get rid of guys that take these types of cheap shots, we will have succeeded in reducing the violence in hockey.

make it look worse than it was???
are you kidding??
I think the replays have done a pretty good job of making it look like what it was... I like Bertuzzy fine.
but let's not make it look like an accident... people get carried away all the time, but take responsibility for it at least!!
I think the suspension during the lock out should have been carried over to this year.
