Quote: Detroit actually had actually tried to keep Federov, about mid-way thru his first season as a Duck, Federov said that his decision to leave Detroit was based on personal issues (Anna Kournikova dumping him for that singer guy) and that he did regret that he wasn't thinking as clearly as he should've been when he made that decision . From Mike Ilitch's statements, it sounded like Detroit wanted to keep Federov as their next franchise guy after Yzerman retires, and that they were quite unhappy that they couldn't get him to stay.
I think that Federov is an excellent pickup for a young team, in my opinion he looked bad as a duck because their game - it didn't suit Federov's style. But Federov is a great 2 way player, with a ton of experience.
What did getting dumped have to do with the Red Wings? Does she live in Detroit? Doesn't make much sense...Turco's finally himself again and the Stars are making a push to take back the division from those pesky Kings.

He just said he wasn't thinking clearly at the time, he likely just wanted a move... I dunno - my only reason for mentioning it was to say that he didn't leave because Detroit wanted him to go

isn't it great when you're watching an intense game,
the refs put a way their whisles during the ENTIRE 3rd period and decide to take it into their own hands going into OT??
(they may as well have grabbed the puck and tossed it in the net!)
So Shiva you bring up an interesting point...
Are refs subject to review and consequence?
should they be?

Absolutely, refs must be reviewed. If they
blow a call that costs a game, they should
be sent to Siberia to ref outdoor games at
-40 until they get some sense. And no Toronto
fans should ever be allowed to ump a game
as a matter of policy. Anyone making a
favorable call for the Leafs will lose their
drivers license, their girlfriend/wife, house
and xbox. They will then be forced to don a
leafs jersey and parade down Ste. Catherine St.
in Montreal. Should they survive that experience,
they will then have to view the new Richard movie
100 times or until they finally understand what
the mystical symbol CH stands for.

I was under the impression that the refs' calls where indeed reviewed by the league... and then spoken to if there is a problem.
If not, then it makes no sense at all.

(don't fall on the ice though! )
Shiva,
so, me thinks you're not a fan of the blue leaf?? lol
(I like your ideas about TO fans though!)
..funny that I never thought of how TO's maple leaf is Blue, when anything that represents CAN is red!
Guess that proves my point that TO isn't a REAL canadian city!!

Nothing against the Leafs..just that they are
the ENEMY..I still like Pandora even though

I believe the league does review officials, but
there is no mechanism to challenge a bad call. I don't know if an NFL style review would work,
but each team should have some recourse over a
blatantly bad call, while the game is going on.
They review goals, maybe giving one challenge per
game would work.

Yeah that's something I've heard many say...
and considering mtl had a goal called back (when they were down 2-0) when there was no penalty called and no whisle blown, the option to challenge would be, i think, I beneficial one.
They said it was called back because the goalie was interfered with... well it was the TO player that pushed the mtl guy on the goalie, and if he was interfered with, why was there no penalty called?
It can be one or the other ... not both.

Well it was sweet to see Ottawa get a shutout, but I find Mtrl are having a hard time replacing the injured on their bench...
I hope they get their key players back soon (like Kovalev)

well if it wasn't for the 2 (maybe 3)
horrible goals (on the part of Theo)
it would have been a closer game.
They need to get rid of that driftwood asap!
But MAN ALIVE Ottawa's strong!!
Anybody have thoughts on the Canadian Olympic team??
they say they don't want too many rookies..
ARE YOU NUTS??
Staal, spezza, heatley, crosby??!!
yeah you're right, let's NOT have the 4 NHL scoring leaders on the same team due to lack of experience!!
(oh yeah and theo was in the goalie considerations??
WTF?? he's crap!!)
Pick up Thibault mtl!!

I checked the standings at NHL.com and Mtl has actually given up more goals than it has scored. Unless they figure out how to play defense, they're gonna take a plunge in the standings...out West, the Stars have taken over first place in the Pacific Division with solid two-way hockey. Stars vs. Hurricanes Friday night is gonna be a blast. I'd love to go to that game.

Not quite sure what you're looking for. That said, Shane Doan is a solid hockey player and (along with the spectacular play of CUJO between the pipes) a big reason for Phoenix's return to respectability; however, I would not regard him as a leader of Team Canada. Thornton and Spezza are more qualified for that role. Doan might be good on the third or fourth line...Been a while since anyone has really said anything on this thread, which is surprising. Ottawa has established itself as the top team in the NHL and the first major trade of the season just took place. San Jose got Joe Thornton from Boston for Marco Sturm, Brad Stuart, and Wayne Primeau. That deal seems to favor San Jose. Boston should have at least gotten Marleau if they were going to give up Thornton. Your thoughts?
Also, the Stars beat the Leafs 2-1 in TO.
